						<description><![CDATA[<p><big>1. I learned that when you pull one surface on or through another surface you cause friction to pull the opposite way so it slows down and will eventually stop. </big></p><br />
<p><big>6.1 I also learned that if the weight is greater it increases the friction </big></p><br />
<p><big>6.2 If the surface is smaller it also increases the friction</big></p><br />
<p><big>6.3 some objects or surfaces increse or decrease the frictions pull.</big></p><br />
<p><big>2. We measured sliding friction by pulling a block along by a spring scale which measures friction because friction pulls backwards and so, if the block is harder to pull, that much friction that is making it harder, so that is how we measured it.</big></p><br />
<p><big>3. we controlled variables by changing one thing, such as the weight, and then kept all the other things the same, slope, times, length of pull, surface area, surface type, etc.</big></p>]]></description>

<p>Elastic force is a force (duh) that is created by an object that has changed shape but tries to go back to its old form. The best example of this is a rubber band, but it happens in other opbjects such as some springs, and others. For instance if you were trying to mave a cart with a rubber band there are two options you have. 1 to tie the rubber band to the cart and pull it (this way does use elastic force but not much) 2, to make a slingshot out of the rubber band and launch it (this way uses a lot of elastic force but cannot direct it much).</p><br />
<p>What is gravity?</p><br />
<p>gravity is a force that acts on objects to pull it twards large objects of mass, such as the moon, the sun, the eath, etc. it is what makes you have weight (the difference between mass and weight is that mass is the amount of stuff in an object and weight is how much gravity pulls it down.)</p>]]></description>

Then when it is in a complete circut, such as a circut to power a lightbulb, it turns that Stored Chemical Energy Back into Electrical Energy which flows along the wires to the lightbulb which converts the Electrical Energy to Light and Heat Energy. in a circut with a motor instead of the light bulb when the Electrical Energy flows through the wires to the motor the motor converts the Electrical Energy into Mechanical energy to power itself.</p>]]></description>

Nitrogen cycle is air, bacteria, plants, animals, dirt, last air/dirt. Nitrates affect algae and bacteria so if there is too much fish will die because there is too much algae and bacteria.</p><br />

It is found in animal manure. People get it from inhaling it. No numbers are good except for 0. But things close to 0 is pretty good too such as 0.1 or 0.2.</p><br />

<p>Recently the ENTIRE sixth grade in our school went tree planting. We went there to plant trees because we wanted to help the salmon. Trees help the salmon by providing more dissolved oxegen, hiding spots (leafs), and when the die if they fall in the river they create a slow moving part which is good for laying eggs, good for bug habitat (food) and a place to rest .We split into two types of groups and changed half way through. One was the digging team which first made a circle indent, smash the dirt into small chunks and put the dirt off to the side. The other type of team took a tree and one person held it and the other put in the dirt. I am guessing that about half of them had fun, but I did. I enjoyed going there (including the walking) but also the game was interesting, and also I enjoyed planting trees. Thanks to all the vonenteers for helping out especially Chawncey. (if I spelled his name wrong leave a comment so I can fix it).</p>]]></description>

						<description><![CDATA[<p>Well recently I have had some extra time so I decided to look up perfect numbers.</p><br />
<p>Perfect numbers are number that, when you add up all of the factors, not including the number, you make that number.</p><br />
<p>You probably still dont understand.  For example, the first perfect number is 6. So, the factors of 6 are:  1,2,3, and 6. but you take away the 6, because it is the number. That  leaves, 1, 2, and 3. 1 plus 2 plus 3 equals 6. beacuse it does, that  makes it a perfect number.</p><br />
<p>One more interesting fact about them is that the last number of each perfect number is either, from 6 to 8.</p><br />

<p>the spawner are often multi-colored and come in a large variety of colors. this is the stage of thier life where they head back up the stream to lay their own eggs and restart the cycle. DANGERS: dangers to spawners include: fishermen, and predators such as bears, birds, and wildcats, and some of the things they faced going down.NEEDS: they dont really need much but they do need, fishladders to be able to bypass hydroelectric dams, and clear clean water and they can also climb waterfalls to get higher up  the stream.</p>]]></description>

<p>The parr is like a fry but will or has undergone smoltification which gives them a type of camoflauge ( this occurs after a while of traveling downstream). They have also grown to about five inches and are the last stage of the salmon life cycle before they have traveled into the ocean. DANGERS: the dangers to them include: Hydroelectric dams ,gulls and other birds of prey, and pollution from farms, factories, and citys. NEEDS: they need non-polluted water and someway to bypass hydroelectric dams and they need to have undergone osmoregulation<font size="4"><b><br /><br />

DANGERS:the danger to them are:having no food, non-cool water, gravel with sediment and many types of birds, and other predators, erosion, and pollution are some of the treats to the frys. NEEDS: they need:food, cool water, sediment-free gravel,trees (for shade and to keepback sediment and help prevent eroision.) and plants.</p>]]></description>

<p>the alevin are the stage of when the eggs hatch. there are slightly transparant and come in some differant colors. they have a small yolk sack attched to their upper body. DANGERS: some of the dangers to alevin include: Gulls, Dippers, Sculpins and other predators, and another danger is having no gravel or other substance that they can hide in and being crushed. NEEDS: they need gravel or some other substance to hide them and they also need most of the smae things aas eggs so they need plants to help prevent soil erosion and cool, clean water and trees to provide shade to cool the water, but they dont need food because they have the yolk sack which provides food for about a month.</p>]]></description>

<p>the eggs are orange and have a little black dot in the center.they are laid by a female salmon spawner which creates a shallow pit in the gravel called a redd. the female then lays and fertilezes the eggs, and then covers the eggs with gravel that allows th eggs o still get water. DANGERS: some of the dangers to eggs include: hikers, loggers, fishermen, livestock, and wild animals all somtimes crush or destroy the eggs and/ or the redd. NEEDS: eggs need cool, clean water and tress to provide shade to col down the water and to hold the soil from eroding and smothering the eggs.</p>]]></description>

<p>This is a stonefly. It is very sensitive to water pollution. It is dead because of a change of temperature or pollution.</p><br />

<p>This is a scud. It is fairly tolerent to pollution. It is alive because it is not really affected by change of temerature. So these are the ones we found. We are doing this to determine how healthy our creek is. To score we gave 4 for very sensitive to pollution, 3 for sensitive to pollution, 2 for fairly tolerant to pollution, and 1 point for very tolerant to pollution. So ours would just be 10 but the class's is 21! Which is very healthy I believe. And now we are comparing it to a different creek, Yellow Jacket creek. Yellow Jacket creek got 25 but even though we close, Yellow Jacket looks like it is a lot cleaner and clearer than ours. Oh I forgot to tell you about biological integrity. biological integrity is "the capability of supporting and maintaining a balanced, integrated,      adaptive community of organisms having a composition and diversity comparable      to that of the natural habitats of the region". says http://www.epa.gov/bioiweb1/html/biointeg.html. An indicator species is a species that can be tested to well, test an envirorment. Benthic Macro's are a good indicator species because if the very sensitive ones that cannot stand pollution ,they die in it, are alive then it is not polluted and so is healthy. Salmon and trout are not good indicator species because some of them may have just come from salt water or a different stream/lake or other water source and that water source may not be polluted. Macros are good for determining biological integrity of streams and creeks because "they are suspectible to degradation of water sediment and habitat" says http://www.epa.gov/owow/watershed/wacademy/acad2000/rbp/6benthic.html, which makes them good indictators of their enviorment healthyness which, happens to be the stream or creek in question.</p><br />

						<description><![CDATA[Water pollution is killing animal and people! You could be in risk! So read this to be able to reduce water pollution and learn about the threats!<br />
	First off, I need to tell you the causes of pollution. the first thing that I will tell you about that pollutes water is: Sewage and Waste water. Sewage often runs into water or is dumped into water and when that happens it causes diseases like diarrhea. Also sewage disposal is a major problem in developing countries like Afghanistan and Niger. Many people in these areas don't have access to sanitary conditions and clean water.<br />
	Another reason water is polluted is because of factories and other industrial buildings. Often they have small spills near water of oil,lead and some other things. sometimes they have large spills like the gulf of Mexico oil spill, and it is not always oil.	<br />
	A third reason water gets polluted is because of eutrophication which is when the area around lakes and other water areas become very rich in nutrients and course algal blooms. Algal blooms disrupt normal functioning of the ecosystem and cause a lot of problems the algae uses up oxygen making it that other life in the water does not have enough oxygen to live and many marine creatures and plants die. It may also stop plants that need sunlight to die by blocking up the sunlight.<br />
	The second thing I will tell you is the the possible dangers to your own health. when stuff (what ever it may be) kills animals the stuff that kill them if anyone eats it may kill the person who ate it or make them very sick. when you drink the water the has gotten polluted you most likely will get sick or maybe killed.<br />
	The third thing you may want to know is how people treat polluted water. For industrial water treatment the first step is to filter the sewage to remove inorganic materials and solid particles. The second step is to do it again and remove more of the solids and do some other processes that also remove solids and chemicals. The third step is to remove almost all of the solids and chemicals. Pretty much they just remove chemicals and solids.<br />
	For sewer water first, untreated sewage from a some sewage storage flows into the septic tank and the solids are separated from the liquid. Second the solids are separated depending on their weight, heavier particles go to the bottom and all the lighter particles form a layer. Then biological processes are used and degrade the solids. And last the liquid flows out of the tank and into a drainage system and all the rest of the solids are filtered out.<br />
	Then last and I think the most interesting thing we (humans) do to polluted water to clean it to use ozone waste water treatment, but the processes is rather short though. Generators change oxygen into ozone by using a ultra violet radiation or by using an electric discharge field. the good things are about ozone waste water treatment are that it kills bacteria well, and filter out Oxidises substances like iron and sulfur well too, it also does not leave odors or residues it also changes back to oxygen fast and leaves no trace that it was there. The disadvantages of using ozone waste water treatment is that: it requires a lot of electricity and it can cost lots of money and will not work when the power is lost, it also cannot dissolve salts and minerals in the polluted water, and it can sometimes leave materials that can be harmful to humans.<br />
	Now that you know about water pollution I can now tell you what YOU can do to prevent water pollution. First conserve water by turning off the tap when running water is not necessary. This prevents water shortages and reduces the amount of contaminated water that needs. Second  you should be careful what you put down your sink or toilet. do not put paints, oils and other forms of litter down the drain. Third use household products that are good for the environment like washing powder, and cleaning agents and toiletries. Fourth you should make sure not to use a lot of pesticides and fertilizers so that you help prevent runoffs of the pesticide or fertilizers into nearby water. Fifth you should not through litter into any source of water, and try to pick up and litter that you see near or in water. Sixth you should plant a garden or some plants if you can because you would help prevent polluted water from running off into nearby water sources.<br />
