Cell Phones for Emergencies! -- 03-26-12

Cell Phones for Emergencies!

Some people think kids shouldn’t be allowed to have cell phones in school. In my opinion kids should be allowed to bring cell phones to school.

One reason why cell phones should be allowed in school is in case of an emergency. There has been school closing because of snowstorms, flooding, and gas leak. When there is an emergency the school has to call all of the families. The problem is that sometimes the parent doesn’t get the message fast enough. Sometimes they are working and don’t hear the phone. If a kid had a cell phone they can keep calling there parents to get picked up from school. In an emergency I wouldn’t like being the last kid in school.

Another reason why cell phones should be allowed in school is so kids can communicate with their parents. For example if I need to stay after school I can easily call my parent to pick me up later. This will prevent my babysitter from coming at 3:00 o’clock.

Many adults think kids shouldn’t bring cell phones to school. In my opinion it’s better to be safe than sorry. I think kids should be allowed to bring cell phones to school!

The Blue Planet! -- 03-26-12

The Blue Planet!

Did you know that Neptune is the farthest planet from the sun? Well, this is a true fact. I am going to teach you all about the planet Neptune.

Neptune has a different orbit than Earth’s orbit around the sun. Earth takes 365 days to orbit the sun. Neptune takes 165 years to go around the sun one time.

Do you think that Neptune is close to the sun or far away? Neptune is the farthest plant from the sun. It is 2,790 million miles away from the sun. Neptune has a small rocky core. Since, Neptune is the farthest plant from the sun it is extremely cold there. It is the coldest planet in the solar system.

Did you know that Neptune has a moon just like planet Earth? Neptune’s moon is called Triton. It is an active moon. This means that there are geysers and volcanoes on Triton. Geysers spew out nitrogen gas and methane ice. The volcanos do not have lava because the planet Neptune is too cold.

So that’s some facts about Neptune. I hope I answered all your questions about the plant Neptune.

Beuhler Press Release -- 03-17-12

We recently returned to the moon. The trip was a success! Our team worked challenger center and our mission was at the called,” Return to the Moon.

I was part of the remote team. My job responsibilities included testing rock samples and soil. Also I had to classify lunar rock samples. The most significant information I collected during the mission was the rock samples. It was important because it gave us more information about the moon’s surface. The part of my job that I found to be difficult was to find the perfect landing spot. You have to land the shuttle very carefully so that you are in the right place in the moon. Also picking up the materials in the glove box.

If I had the chance to fly again, I would change my job to data because it looks like an easier job than remote team.

Never Give Up -- 01-13-12

The story "the dot" is about a girl named Vashti who thought she couldn’t draw. Then her art teacher told her to draw a line and see where it takes her. After, the art teacher told her to sign it. Vashti kept practicing drawing dots. She drew all kinds of dots: big, small, and all different colors. Finally, Vashti realized that she could draw well. At the end of the story, a little boy told her that she was a great artist. He wished that he could draw like her. So, Vashti gave him a blank paper and told him the same thing her teacher told her, “Make a mark.”

When I reread “the dot” I realized it was all about never saying never. Vashti said she couldn’t draw, but she never really tried to draw. Then, the art teacher said to make a dot. When she first made a dot she was happy, and she made a lot more dots. Vashti practiced drawing and got better at it. So, “the dot” is really all about never giving up.

"The dot" reminded me of learning how to play the clarinet for the first time. I thought I was bad at playing it, but I didn’t stop practicing. By the end of 4th grade, I was pretty good at it. This is just how Vashti felt when she thought she couldn’t draw. I learned to never give up.

It’s important to keep practicing when you’re learning something new. Do not get discouraged, and just keep practicing and never give up.

Apple Picking -- 11-28-11

Awhile ago my Dad had a surprise for my brother and I.

I woke up, but I still felt tired and drowsy. My Dad called us into the kitchen and said, “We are going apple picking!” I was so excited to go and pick apples. I knew it would be fun. We would climb trees, taste the juicy apples, and shop in the farmers market.

My Dad told us to get into the car. We went to pick up my Aunt Cynthia, Uncle Chinito, Aunt Marcia, and my cousins Sebastian, Javier, and Layla. It took us forty-five minutes to drive to the farm. While we were in the car, my brother and cousin Javier played a question game. We were making Sebastian laugh.

First, we got to the farm and my Dad said, “I will go buy a bag for the apples and a pole to get the apples.”

We said, “OK Dad!”

Then we headed up the hill to find some good apple trees. My brother and I ran to find a tree with lots of apples on it. We ran to my Dad and said, “We found a tree with lots of apples on it! Come this way!”

Next, I asked my Dad if my brother Kevin and I could climb up the tree to get more apples. “Yes, you can,” Dad said.

So, Kevin and I were climbing trees and I was scared. The tree felt rough when I climbed it. The leaves were smooth. I was scared because the tree was 7ft or 8ft tall. I thought I was going to fall out of the tree. When I looked into our bags, it seemed like we had a lot of apples. I was yelling to my Dad, “Where should I look for more apples?”

Dad called back, “Go a little bit to your right. There’s a big, juicy one over there.”

I was extremely tired but the bags were full of juicy apples.

Finally, we went home and made all kinds of treats. We made apple pie, candy apples, and apple juice to drink. The apple desserts were so delious and the apple pie was creamy. The candy apples were sweet and so hard to bite into. It hurt my teeth.

It was the best apple picking trip I had ever taken!

When I Went To Visit My Brother At Camp! -- 10-25-11

The day I went to visit my brother was a very special day because it was my first time seeing him in three weeks.

It was fun. I played games like tennis, basketball, and swimming. We also went to see a movie and went to the mall and got ice cream. Then we went to McDonalds to eat. It was good. After, we went to the park to play, and it was fun. Then we went back to the camp and dropped off my brother Kevin. I was so sad because I wasn’t going to see him for three more weeks.

This was a special time because my brother goes to camp for six weeks, and I miss him a lot.
