The Year is Yet to End -- 05-17-12

In seventh grade, I have learned a ton. I have worked hard on the world history fair, writing poems in language arts, and new things in exploritories. . Most of the poems were fun to make and were extremely easy to write. Also, the world history fair was stressful and annoying to work on, but I feel I did well there. For international towne, it was just not fun. It wastes a lot of time in enrichment and was not a worthwhile field trip. If anything, there should be more time on breaks. As of exploratories, I have learned in 3D art how to make plaster sculptures just like the one I am currently working on. I also went up on stage in drama to perform a skit. Overall, seventh grade was harder than sixth grade, but still sort of easy.

Next year, I am looking for the exploritories I wanted and for the final year of middle school. Though, I do think that next year won’t be as well as this year. Being in eighth grade will be a pain with more homework, but less of a pain with projects. To next year’s seventh graders, I advise to turn your work in on time and to not procrastinate on the huge projects.

Field Trip Fine -- 05-10-12

At international towne, it wasn’t the best field trip. The breaks were too short and the areas were too small. However, I did learn that a lot of math is involved with businesses and financing. As a finance manager of Finland, I needed to keep track of expenses. Though when some of my country’s citizens were on breaks, I had to keep track and sell souvenirs. I did like selling the souvenirs as well as paying expenses. The most ridiculous thing on the field trip was when we had to get six cultural activities done. I only got four of them done out of the total thirty minutes of the two breaks. However, the actual experience was better than being in a classroom.

Colosseum of Rome -- 05-10-12

World history influences everyone’s lives because of the development it results. Architectural history influences engineers as well as artists. How is the Colosseum unique? That was my guiding question in which is unique by its grandness. Also, it has 80 entrances and was one of Rome’s best populated amphitheaters. The Colosseum was a Roman’s favorite place to go. Now, it is still mostly standing after an earthquake in A.D. 847! Still it is a well-known structure.
`	From some of the projects, I have learned much. I have learned a bit about some Roman armies in which is designed differently than a Greek phalanx. I learned that the Aqueduct was one of Rome’s creative ways to bring water to the city. Also, I learned about how some people put time and effort into their projects. Overall, the projects were all done well with interesting facts.

Seedfolks in Spring -- 05-02-12

About Seedfolks, I personally do not like the form or style of the book. The book would’ve been better if there were more chapters on each character. Also, the book was only 86 pages and could’ve been read in an hour or two. I thought it was about people of one city that do not know each other come and each individually plant their own food in a garden and eventually get to know each other. Mostly, the book's moral or big idea was to get people of different nationalities that live in the same city together and to know each other. My favorite character was Royce because he has changed everyone’s opinion on him after helping the garden out. Before, people were somewhat afraid of him. For the activities, all of them were enjoyable and were all very different. My favorite activity was in technology when we made a quilt of pictures (from the internet) that have relation to the book.

The Amphitheater of Rome! -- 04-22-12

For my humanities project, I am researching the Colosseum. About the Colosseum, I am looking up things that make the building unique. A few facts about the amphitheater are that it is not in a circle, but in an oval and it can seat up to 50,000 people! Also, for my 3-D display, I am planning on making my interpretation of a velarium. A velarium is an awning that was used as shade in the Colosseum. It was held by masts and constructed by over 1,000 men. During this next week, I will need to work on and finish the museum display and the trifold for my project.

Dissections of Wings! -- 04-05-12

For me dissecting the wing was a nightmare. Learning about the human body and blood makes me feel sick and awkward. The reason why we dissected the chicken wings was because we were looking at muscles, tendons, and all of that gross stuff. The best part of the dissection was the way that if you pulled a certain muscle, the whole wing would move. To me, this experience was maybe worthwhile because of how interesting it was. However, I still felt sick during this. Also, I probably didn’t learn much except for what the things look like and how the wing moves. Finally, I heard that we will also be dissecting a frog this quarter. I do not exactly know when we will be dissecting the frogs, but it could be in late April or early May.

Racism Then and Now -- 03-15-12

As I watched the Ernest Green movie it seemed… cruel and rude. The nine of them were treated as non-human; they were treated with a lot of disrespect. People treated the Little Rock Nine as if they were not welcome or not able to be at that school, even though it wasn't the people's decisions. Also, some people treated them nicely which made them feel a bit better. Those people gave a warm welcome and didn't mess around with them. Also, if I was Ernest, I would probably leave the school. I wouldn’t have the courage to stay at the school if I was being treated like that. Also, nowadays people are still racist, but not as bad as back then. Most of the racism now is mainly jokes and stereotypes.

Guilt

As I stand on stage,
I think of jokes.
Sick humor that people like.
It feels right to give the crowd what they want.
However,
These jokes seem cruel,
Also unreasonable,
Yet as I walk on stage,
Guilt crosses my mind.

An Overlook of Cells -- 02-23-12

In science, we have been studying cells. Also, we have learned the parts of a bacteria cell, plant cell, and an animal cell. We used microscopes to look at certain things and their cells. While looking through the microscopes, we had to draw what we saw. Also, looking at protists through the microscopes was probably the best part of the unit! The worst part of the unit was taking notes. Anyway, the test should be somewhat simple.

Who should win the Super bowl? Will it be the New England Patriots or the New York Giants? I personally want the Patriots to win because I do not like the Giants. The Giants are just in my opinion a not-so-good team. Apparently, I am wrong of thinking they are a horrible team because they were in Super bowl XLII. Also, they are in the Super bowl now. However, I still would like to see the Patriots win on Sunday. Who knows?

Poetic Uses -- 01-26-12

Most poets probably get the effects for their pieces of work by planning and thinking. Also, some of the “tools” they use can be rhyme or maybe even personification. Some poets may even include both. However, rhyme can be more common in poetry than personification. Another, “tool” for poetic effects can be rhythm. Rhythm is just as common as rhyme and personification. An example of personification can be: The rat got up and walked out of the house. Other somewhat minor “tools” can be similes and metaphors or even onomatopoeias. An onomatopoeia is a word that means what its sound is. An example can be: Bang! Als, by somewhat, I mean they just aren’t used as much as other poetic “tools” can be. Anyway, there are other better “tools” to use, but these are maybe the less complex ones.

Quoty... Quotes -- 01-19-12

Albert Einstein’s quote: “Thee important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing.” can be interpreted as ask all the questions that can suit your curiosity, in my opinion. Someone can apply it to their life by being more interogative and more wondering. In some ways, this quote can give off positive changes in attitude. For example, someone can ask another person what is wrong. Also, that other person maybe glad to talk problems out. Also, this can make an impact on the world byhaving more questions leading to life and health. Finally, it applies to me because sometimes I ask questions because I am curios. A person without curiosity, isn't much of a person.

Greece and Corinth -- 12-10-11

Greek mythology is interesting to me, so I know some of that information on their culture. I know all the gods’ names (it might take a long time to list them). Also, I know that there were city-states, since we learned them in class. Finally, I know a few parts of the Greek alphabet. I learned the Greek alphabet in class as well.

In humanities we were divided into groups of five or four (my group was the only four-member group in our class). We have to dress nearly the same and create chants and secret handshakes. Also, we have activities to gain points. For my city-state, Corinth, we are trying to do better than Sparta and Athens. In the “Fates”, a game of chance for this simulation, you can gain points or lose points. Anyway, this is what we are doing in humanities.

Mystery Madness -- 11-10-11

The best mystery series I have ever read was the Hardy Boys. The books are interesting to me and the author creates wonderful stories to read. Stories like the Hardy Boys are very repetitive by the brothers not dying, but other than that the books are well.
A great example of a beginning to a mystery story is:
As the thief sneaks into the museum, the alarm goes off! Stealthily the robber grabs his prize, a twenty-four karat gold ring, and dashes out the now broken window. As the cops look for the thief, the thief is long gone and was never to be found.
