Seventh Grade -- 05-16-12

Seventh grade was a lot of fun! I thought that this was the best year so far. I was happy we could participate in after school sports now. I thought I was successful in my grades and sports. I learned that I’m good at math and science. I also learned that I need to work harder at L.A. and Humanities. I probably would have been more organized. I found my papers but, it was a lot harder than it should have been. In eighth grade I want to keep doing the things I have been in seventh grade. For the next year’s seventh graders I would say to turn in all your work on time, because after a while it starts building up and it’s hard to get back on track. Also I think that you should do all your blogs, they are worth a lot of points. Good Luck next years seventh graders!

Internation Towne! -- 05-10-12

I think that International Towne was very fun. We learned a lot. One thing was different currencies can have different amounts of money but they all could be equal. You could have 10 PacAsia notes and 20 AmeriLat notes but they are equal. One thing that I would change is our time. We need a longer break time, but the actual work time was good. One other thing that I would change would be the amount of people per job. For example I was a Finance Minister. When people would take their breaks other people would have to take over even if they didn’t know the jobs. I had to start selling stuff, even though that wasn’t my job, so that would be the other thing that I would change. My favorite part was having our breaks and getting our money. It was fun being able to bring things back from International town. I think that International Towne was a lot of fun.

World History Fair -- 05-02-12

For my project my guiding question was: Why was the building of the temple of Artemis important to the Greeks. The most interesting part about the temple was that it was a wonder of the world. Also it was so important to the Greeks that every time something happened to it, it was rebuilt. The temple of Artemis was built for the goddess Artemis. It was built in Ephesus. Today people visit the site where there are some ruins. Also there are some ruins in museums. Learning about this today shows how people acted back then compared to now.

During the world history fair I learned a lot of things. One thing I learned was about the Trojan horse and the Trojan War. I learned that the Trojans made a horse and presented it as a gift to their enemies. It was so the soldiers could sneak in to fight. I also learned a little about Pantheon. It was a very big building. The Romans built it and when they did they made it in a dome shape with a hole in the roof. So that made it energy conservative. I learned a lot at the world history fair, this is just some!

Chicken Wings -- 04-02-12

We were dissecting chicken wings to learn about how things work, like tendons and ligaments. A chicken wing is like us, some of the things work the same way. I thought at first it seemed a little gross but then after I started that wasn’t so bad. It was cool that you could make the chicken wing move by pulling one part of it. I think it was worthwhile. You can actually see what you are learning in books in a dissection. I learned a lot in this experiment starting with how each system works. I had a lot of fun!

I thought that trying to keep the coloreds out of white schools was cruel. No one deserves that treatment. Also just because of someone’s color doesn’t mean that they should not get the same things. Truthfully I would like to thing that I would be able to have courage to continue on but, I don’t think I would have been able to do what Ernest and others did. I think that there should not be discrimination but there still is today. Some instances could be picking for a job or playing a game, picking a team mate. I found it very cool seeing such small organisms move under the microscope but not seeing them with your plain eye. I also found it interesting about how things change over time. We did an experiment and we kept track of how much bigger or smaller it grew. Lastly the worst part of this is the test. I’m ok at science but there is a lot of vocabulary in this unit.
There are a few tools poets use to create an effect. One is tone, the words that you use. Some words can make you happy while others can show anger. Another tool is what kind of rhythm they make. For example if all the lines rhyme or just some. One last thing is sentence length. The longer the lines the more dramatic it seems. The shorter the lines the happier it seems. Those are just some of the many tools poets use.

I came up with a few 2012 goals. My first goal is to do better on my fitness testing. I want to improve my scores from last year. I improved my mile run by 30 seconds about and want to improve it more. I also want to get good scores on the rest of my tests and try to beat them at the end of the year. Another one of my goals is to become a better reader and writer. I can become a better reader just by reading more books. I also can become a better writer by writing more than I do now. My last goal is to do get the gold medal at the end of the year. I already did two quarters with 4.0 and I want to do the second half of the year just as strong.

My story starter: Ahhhhh! When 13 year old Julia went into her room it had been trashed. Her computer and television was gone! Her mom walked in and then said she would call the cops. When they arrived they asked her mom a lot of questions. It did not help them any because they found out that she had an alibi, she had been at work all day with many witnesses. They did get one clue though. There was squashed mud with a perfect boot print. The person had left in hurry not to cover up their tracks.

I read an article about the World Series Game2. The second game was won by Texas. The first game was won by the Cardinals. This World Series is very close games. Some things that happened at the second game towards the end was the worst play for the Cardinals. The Rangers were down 1-0. There was the tying run and the go ahead runs on the bases. Pujols was a cut off and if he caught the ball he would have held the runners. Pujols is the first baseman for the Cardinals. Although he missed it and the go ahead run got on second into scoring position.Pujols is my favorite player, I think that he had a bad angle on the play, I was watching the game. I think that this World Series has been very exciting.

A book that I have read recently is called Uglies by Scott Westerfeld. This book is about a girl named Tally Youngblood. In a few weeks she will turn from an ugly to a pretty. To be a pretty you get a big surgery. Tally is very excited until she meets a friend, who has the same birth date as her, her name was Shay. She met Shay in pretty town, they both snuck in. Shay thought that Tally had guts to jump off a building, with safety, and sneak into pretty town. Shay was different than other uglies though, she did not want to become a pretty. Shay told Tally a story about other friends sneaking off to never become pretties. What happens next? You would have to read the story to find out. I thought that this was a very good book.

I learned some things and we got to play a prey and predator game. One activity that I enjoyed was the island game; we had to work together as a team to get across. We had to communicate but we also had to listen to each other. On this field trip I learned that animals have a lot of things that they need to do to survive. For example they need food, water and shelter, but they might not always get everything. I also learned that plants need to have certain things to survive other they die.
My Stitches -- 09-14-11

My scariest thing that happened was over this past summer. I went bike riding and crashed. It was on pavement. I was going too fast and slipped. I had a helmet on but it hurt. I got scrapes on my knees and hand, and a gash on my chin. When my parents looked at the cut they knew I needed stitches. We went to an Urgent Care place and had to wait. When the doctor came he first gave me numbing medicine, and then I got stitches. This happened in June, and it just so happened I got my stitches taken out on my birthday! That was the scariest thing that happened to me.

Rachel's Legacy -- 09-06-11

I think that the Rachel’s Challenge assembly was very inspiring. I think that it is worthwhile presentation that reminds you, life is short so make the best of every minute you got. I think it is effective because the story grasps your attention and makes you want to listen. I took away from the experience that you never know what day will be your last or someone else’s last. So treat everyday like it’s your last. I will do something different; treat everyone with kindness, even on a bad day because you never know what minute will be your last minute.
