World History Fair -- 05-02-12

I think that world history fair influences our lives because it sort of shapes who we are and who we become. We learn a lot from other cultures and we sort of take what they are good at and we apply it to our everyday lives and maybe sometimes we even inspire others to do the same. I learned a lot of things about my topic which was Chinese food and I also learned a lot about Chinese dining and the Chinese people's strange customs like they don't drink anything during meals because they drink tea during most of the day and the only liquid they do have during meals is something like soup or stew.

The world history fair was a great leaning opportunity. I learned about a lot of things but I liked learning about the trojan horse and the plan behind the horse and why they started the Trojan war shich was ostarted because of a stupid girl that decided to run away with another prince. I also really liked looking at other people's musem displays. My guiding queston was how did ancient Chinese inspire today's modern food? I learned that it was mostly just tradition and people passing down things that had been passed down to them for years. I also learned that rice was the first grain farmed in China. I had a lot of fun with this project and I hope I do something like this next year

Seedfolks??? -- 04-24-12

I think that this books so far is okay but I don't really like it not because of the story or anything but because I don't like the setup of the whole story and how it goes from person to person. I think that the character changing gets really confusing. I think that the main point is that yeah some people are judgemental and make assumptions but if we all come together and do something that won't matter of what other people said about eachother because we all end up helping eachother out at one point or another. I don't really like any of the characters more than the others because it is predictable on what they are going to later on. I did like the character Curtis because I think it's funny how he is really cocky and then he finds a girlfriend named Lateasha and then later on in their relationship Lateasha sees Curtis with a girl on his arm and then she pretty much shuns Curtis. Later on in the story Curtis and Lateasha are still not together but Curtis decides that he finally want a wife and Lateasha wants a husband and so Curtis sees everyone planting things in the empty garbage lot; and he remembers that tomatoes are Lateasha's favorite adn so he decides to plant some and then makes a sign that says Lateasha's tomatoes and then one day he sees her peeking out from behind her curtains at him planiting the tomatoes. I sort of like Seedfolks but sometimes it is still really confusing. I am really excited to do the activity in Mr. Howard's class and make a metal flower as well as plant tomatoes in science.

Chinese Food! -- 04-16-12

My topic for the world history fair is ancient chinese food and how it inspired today's modern chinese food like what we eat. I have learned a lot like that rice was the first grain farmed in China, and that the Chinese people weren't introduced to bread until 1200 A.D. and that they hadn't been intoduced to wheat until about 5 or 10 years before. I think that my research and writing my paper has gone well but my question is sometimes a little bit hard to answer because I find different information that would be really useful if only my topic is a littl e closer to that than what it is at now. I don't know if I am ready, I still have a lot of preparing to do and getting pictures. The thing that I am the most nervous about is my musem display because I am still not quite sure what to make; I have an idea but I am not completely sure if that is what I want to do. I think that the World history fair has provided some stress on everyone because we all really want to get a good grade because this is one of the biggest projects of the year so there is a lot of pressure. I hope that my project especially my musem display turns out well. I am planning on making something like clay potstickers and rice balls for my musem display.

Ernest Green -- 03-15-12

I think that this story is absolutely amazing because the 9 African American students that were brave enought to go to the school marked a day in history. They were later known as the little rock nine. My reaction to the movie was that I was appalled by the way that the white people acted towards the 9. They did everything they could to get rid of them but the 9 were brave and stayed. I think honestly I would have fought back because I can't stand when people are so rude like that. I think that the 9 are all admirable because they stood for something and that basically started a chain reaction. Even though one of the nine left part of the way through I still think they all deserve to be recogninzed of being a part of something that changed the world and how we view other people. I also think that Ernest Green is very amazing being the first African American student to graduate from Central High; an all white school. I also admire Ernest Green because he was committed the whole way through even though he wanted to give up sometimes. Today people are more "color blind" and aren't as racist. People learn to be racist usually from their parents because their parents say what is right and what is wrong and what they say we do because they trust us and love us. When we are young we rely soley on our parents to tell us what to like and what not to like so we trust and reluy on them for every single thing. People fight for so much and are determined and when they think they are going to do something they stick to it and they stay with it while others just give up. Mr.Green inspired many other African Americans to follow their dreams in getting a good education. I think that he also sort of inspires me because he kept to what he was doing and stayed strong during the whole ordeal so I admire him for his bravery and strength both physically and mentally.

Smile! -- 03-02-12

"Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened." -Dr. Seuss
I think that this is very important like don't be sad of what happened in the past but be happy that you were able to have that oppurtunity instead.
Crying makes you sad
It shows a small sign of weakness
Crying helps and hurts others and yourself
Smiling makes people happy
It makes them wonder why you are happy
You smile because of something good that happened
Crying can mean you were dissapointed with the results
Smile and cry maybe for the same reason but always be greatful and happy for what you did

No matter what you do someone always gets bullied and ends up getting hurt often times emotionally because of something someone said or did. I think a lot of times at our school it's like if a girl like a guy or a guy like a girl and one them asks eachother out and they get rejected, somehow half of the school ends up hearing about it. I think that happens to girls a lot and some of them just want to dissapear I'm sure it happenss to guys as well but I have first hand experience. I picked this quote because I think that really just means that showing that you care about something or someone doesn't mean that you are a weak person. It means that you are strong and brave enough to care.I think that this applies to my life by like when I play sports I play to win and I also play to have like good sportsmanship and be able to help people willingly not because I was asked or told to. I think we were to not worried about getting the video done though we should have been. Our video was done in like the last four or five days. The thing that went the best for our group was the facts and all the information. I think that if I did this project again that I would have planned more in advance for the video.
Mystery -- 11-10-11

I really enjoyed reading the story "The Black Cat" even though it was dark and gruesome it had a great plot. I liked all the details included but there were some details that were a little too much. I have this idea for a mystery where these twin sisters switch lives and one of them get murdered in the others place and the living sister disappears and nobody knows why. I'm really excited to write this! Here's the beginning. I was running as fast as I could but it wasn't fast enough.I guess should tell you why I was running, I just stole some money to pay Benny back. Benny gives me my drugs but soometimes I fall a little behind on payments. He was getting angrier everyday I didn't have the money and this was the third time he had sent someone after me.

I think blogging overall has been a good experience because it is a fun way to learn and communicate. I find blogging is easy because I like to talk even if it's for a prompt. I don't have a lot of promblems because blogging is very simple some people just overthink it. I also think blogging is a great way to show your writing skills to others so they can see who can help them most for writing projects.

Gian-luc -- 10-26-11

I think the current event I'm writing about is truly remarkable. Wednesday October 26, 2011 at a new Resteraunt called Garbanzos the Jordan family had a little fundraiser for Gian-luc. They got 25% of the money from every meal that was bought. I saw a lot of kids from Mountain Ridge and it made me really think of what a good person he was. Thanks to Gian-luc I am a better person and I think this was one of the best fundraisers in the world, it taught kids about the choking game and what it does to you. I watched a video from a website on a brochure and it made me think how much I wish Gian-luc was still here.

Always Remember -- 10-24-11

I think thi is my strongest paragraph and I would appreciate any feedback given to me so please help me out.

People in countries all around the world should remember the men and women who have served their countries in the armed forces to defend their freedoms. In the United States of America, we set aside Veterans Day to honor servicemen and servicewomen who have selflessly sacrificed their freedoms to fight for the rights of others. Citizens honor veterans in silence, words, and thoughts in respect for their service.

Apple is awed.
Steve Jobs passed away at least two weeks ago and he was really amazing because of all the things he did to help our world. He created IPads and they have really fast data bases, he also created Utouches, IPods, Mac computers, and the newest IPhones. They can be used to study, learn, play, and discover. Mr.Jobs had struggled and fought with panchreotis cancer and lived for a pretty long time.I think Mr.Job's gave us hope in technology to help find cures for cancer, find children's families, bring people home and so much more. He created a technology revolution. Thanks to Steve Jobs we have realized so many things.

I get in trouble a lot for talking so sorry to all the people I got in trouble for talking with! Talking is a really good way to solve problems and just have fun.
Fox Run -- 09-26-11

I really liked going to Fox Run because it was fun and super educational. I really liked doing the egg race because you could see who the really supportive people are, the really competitive, and the super funny and energetic people. I learned a lot about camoflauge and nature's version of supply an demand. The pond was really cold and it looked beautiful I honestly thought it was nature made until I saw the fountain. Fox Run was really great and I thought that it was the best field trip I've ever been on. I learned so much but the weather was cold but it turned out to be a great day after all!

Banned Books -- 09-26-11

Books are "beast."I think how banned books fall in to the freedom of speech is because sometimes in books people have really strong opinions and a lot of people don't want to hear them out. I am super glad that we are able to read books, otherwise I would be so bored with nothing to do. I think that everyone should be happy for books because without them we wouldn't have very many resources for school and for people's jobs. I don't think that books should be banned because everyone needs books for different purposes. Hooray for books!

That's Math???? -- 09-19-11

That was hilarious. I checked out the math for myself and his calculations are correct like the process he did it in, but we were taught a different way otherwise known as the correct way. You can also get the “right” answer with these numbers, 48 doughnuts, 8 officers, and 15 doughnuts each. I got these numbers by using guess and check I started with 39 doughnuts, 8 officers, and 12 each and so I did the math and the answer didn’t work out so I tried numbers higher than that. I then tried 18 doughnuts, 6 officers, and 5 each and so on. I think to do the division for this, you have to have the right numbers, so for the numbers I picked which are 48, 8, and 15. You start with division you are dividing 48 by 8 and you'll end up with 15 like how the guy in the video ended up 13 doughnuts for each officer, 7 officers, and 28 doughnuts. Ok so we're dividing 48 by 8 and 8 doesn't go into 4 so set the 4 to the side like you're pretending to hold it. Then 8 goes into 8 one time, drop the 8 off under the 8 in 48. Then bring the 4 down and you will have the number 40 and 8 goes into 40 five times so your total will be 15 doughnuts.

Funniest Thing -- 09-12-11

I think the funniest, weirdest, strangest thing that has ever happened to me was probably two or three years ago. I was in Maui with my family for my mom’s best friend’s brother’s wedding. We had eaten breakfast and were in the car on the way to the beach where the wedding was held. I didn’t feel very well and was getting car sick, I didn’t say anything and I thought I would be fine because we had a really big rental car. I was doing great until I started to feel the eggs come up. I puked all over my beautiful dress; I was sitting next to my grandma so while I was throwing up my guts my grandma screamed and yelled at me not to barf on her fancy outfit(real concerned about the kid throwing up next to her). We had to stop the car and my mom, brothers, and my grandma started to help clean up. I had to take my dress off and wear a huge sweater as clothes. My mom stopped at a church while the church sprinklers were going and washed my dress off in the sprinklers and I had to do my best and take a shower in the sprinklers, at least there wasn’t anybody I knew around. We still had some time so we went by Costco and my mom bought me a bathing suit to wear under my gross smelling wet dress. I had a really “fun” day after that!

Rachel's Challenge -- 09-06-11

I think the Rachel’s challenge presentation was very emotional and helpful, and it definitely made everyone think about their life choices. to everyone that saw it because, it showed everyone Rachel’s legacy and what she showed to everyone she met. The presentation was very worthwhile because it taught us all so much about things that will help us in life like pre accepting before judging people we know nothing about it also taught me and probably a lot of other people to live their lives to the fullest and the best that they can. I think it was definitely needed because everyone struggles with different thing sometimes.
I think what I “took away” from this presentation is the kind of person I want to be, because when people thought of Rachel they only thought of good things and that’s what I want people to do when they think of me. I plan to always try to accept people the way they are no matter what they do because I know what it feels like to be judged and hurt and it doesn’t ever feel good. Rachel is a person I want to be like and a role model for everyone that has heard her story. Rachel had big dreams but she also had a feeling that she was not going to have a long life and unfortunately what she thought was true, though sometimes we feel like our lives are not going to be very long just live your life to the fullest. My friend Gian-luc is no longer with us but he's in a better place and I honestly think that Rachel's Challenge helped him live his life to the fullest, he did before but after Rachel's challenge you could just tell by the way he acted towards everyone. Rachel encouraged Gian-luc and he encouraged me to be a better person no matter what is going on. Rachel has really inspired me to follow my dreams and go out of your way to always care.
