International Towne -- 05-21-12

I think the International Towne experience was like young Amire Towne in the way it was run and the set up. I learned about global trade and currency exchange and how different products in the world affect other things all over the world. Products from China or Japan could affect the United States. By producing them in China it could lower production costs, because instead of having to pay minimum wage in the United States, they could pay lower wages in China. Different currencies are strong in certain countries and weak in others. For example the U. S. dollar is stronger in Mexico and some other countries, but is weak in China and Japan.
I think the best part was going there and doing my job and selling flowers and beach balls and ending up in the black. There is nothing that I would like to change because it is a very well-thought out program that is very thorough in teaching global economics.

THE END -- 05-19-12

I think 7th grade was great, at least for me. 7th grade went by very fast and was very fun. For me most of the year was successful. Except for the third quarter that didn't go too well. I learned that you should do home work the day you get it instead of doing it on the next day like I did in the 3rd quarter. Another thing I learned was not to wait so long to work on projects and big assignments. I also learned about global economics and currency exchange from going to International Towne. International Towne was also really fun and worth all the work that we had to do. In science I personally learned that frogs smell bad and are hard to cut with scissors.
If I could change something I would have turned in all of my assignments when they were due and not wait until the last minute when they were due. That is one thing I learned the hard way, because my third quarter grades were not what I wanted them to be. If I could change anything else, I would want more field trips. I would also assign less math homework.
For all the sixth graders going into seventh grade, don't let the block schedule rule you, rule the block schedule. Do this by doing homework the day you get it, not the day before it is due. This lets you get it done and gives you extra time in case something comes up.

world history Fair -- 05-02-12

I learned many things about the Roman Legions. My guiding question was how did the Roman Legions affect the rise and fall of the Roman Empire. I chose this topic because it covered the start and end of in my opinion, one of the greatest empires in history. I found out that their most important role was a military role. The Legions were a key to expanding the Empire. Without their military force it would not have been possible. As they grew, they were able to defeat and conquer bigger nations and expand into a bigger and stronger empire
I learned a lot from walking around the gym. I learned things like Genghis Khan to Julius ceasur. there were a lot of cool displays like a stone hedge and huge catapult like things. there were also smaller catapults that launched paper. I found out a lot also like things about gladiators and other stuff.

Right now I have not read much of Seed Folks. The format is kind of weird because it all ties in to the other stories but, it leaves you hanging because it only tells so much about one person. My favorite character so far is the old lady. I like the old lady because she seems knowledgeable and she did something bad by digging up the cucumbers so she plants something herself. I think the big idea is that a community can turn a rundown scrap yard into a garden. Or that as a community you can accomplish anything. My favorite activity is the flower making in Mr. Howard's class. I think the rock painting was also fun.

My final project is coming along great. I am done with most of the things. I am still working on my museum display. I am making a body length shield and I need to finish painting the design. I am done with the trifold display. I am almost ready to turn them in! Making the shield was my favorite part of this project.

Spring Choice -- 04-13-12

There are only about 30 days left of the school year. Yeah!! I can hardly wait for the end of the school year. I am looking forward to summer break and the things I will do during summer break. I am looking forward to summer camp, no school, spending time with my family and friends and other stuff. Every year I go to summer camp with my boy scout troop. It is very very fun because of the activities and the time I get to spend with my friends. My favorite activities are shot gunning, rifle shooting, and swimming. I also like going to Breckenridge for the fourth of July. It is fun and I get to spend time with my family when I go. Last year my friend was there with his family too. We happened to stay at the same lodge and got to hang out. Breckenridge also has fantabulous fireworks for the fourth of July.
I also like being able to sleep in and not having to worry about going to school or doing homework. Now that I know there are only about 30 days left I am counting down until there is no more school!

Chicken Wings -- 04-07-12

We dissected a chicken wing in science before spring break because we would get to see the muscles and tendons in a real thing that was once living. I also think that we dissected the chicken wing so we could get to see the tendons and muscles of the inside of an animal. I think that it was worth while because now I know what the muscles and tendons of a chicken look like. I learned what the tendons and muscles look like and I also learned that if you pull on certain muscles that different parts of the chicken wing will move. Moving the different muscles was fun because other parts would move and it was kind of weird but also interesting.
There were certain things that I did not like about the dissection. I did not like pulling the skin off because it was difficult to pull it off. We did not have any sharp objects so we had to use our hand and blunt little poking objects to get the skin off. I also did not like the worksheet that we had to do. It asked questions about what was inside the chicken wing and what they looked like. I thought it was boring and long and time consuming.

earnest green story -- 03-18-12

After seeing the The Ernest Green Story and video clip of Minnie Jean Brown, I think that if you put your mind to something you can accomplish it if you try hard enough. The reason I say this is because every one of the Little Rock Nine, except for one, graduated from Central High School even though they were bullied, picked on and threatened in and outside of school. Each day was a struggle for each one of the Little Rock Nine because of the hatred and violence they had to deal with. If I were in their position, I would have done what they did and tried my hardest to graduate from Central High. One difference is I think I would have fought back because of the constant bullying upon The Little Rock Nine. I would have gotten fed up with it and fought back. Things have changed. Now, anybody can go to the school of their choice unless you have to apply and get accepted into the school. I hear about different kinds of discrimination in the news but I don't see it in my everyday life. I think that the suffering that the Little Rock Nine went through was very brave and courageous of them. I am grateful to the students that had to go through that because what they did helped form a better and more perfect nation.

poetic effects -- 03-18-12

In their writing poets use many tools. My favorites are rhyme and figurative language. I like rhyme because it's fun to hear and say. For example one of my favorite poets is Shel Silverstein. His poems are funny and they also have rhyming words. Another one of my favorites is alliteration. I like alliteration because it sounds cool and can also get people's attention. Tongue twisters are a form of alliteration and are very interesting. Personally I like to hear people say tongue twisters because it's funny because of how many times they make mistakes. I also like onomatopoeia because it describes sounds well. It creates a better picture of what's going on in the poem because I can hear what's going on.

Because you see the things that make up the big picture. for example the letter E printer in black is acutely a combination of colors.
I am going to type a interesting story for you. There once was a house in a forest away place Bob lived. One day he came home to realize that he was being robbed. He assumed that the burglar was after the envelope witch contained 5,000,000$ so bob ran to his desk lamp and saw that the envelope was gone. But, he could still see the burglar in the distance running away so he got in his car and drove to catch the burglar. the burglar had now gone into a black van and was sticking his tongue out at bob. This made Bob soooo mad that he floored the gas and drove up right next to the van. Then when Bob looked up he saw a wall and jumped out of his car. The burglar also jumped out and was running to a yacht and got on in the last second and was on his way. But this didn't stop bob he found a plane and flew over the yacht until it docked at a harbor on a tropical island. The burglar ran away and hid behind a pom tree but bob found him and turned him in the the sherrif's office and bob went home.

I don't know much about the Greeks but I do know a few facts. One is that they worshiped many gods like Zeus and Hera. Their myths explained things like why we have seasons and why we have misery and suffering. Myths like Persephone and Pandora's Box explain reasons for why these things happen. Also, the Greeks were split into different sections, and Greece had many factions such as Sparta and Athens. The Greeks also had many famous pieces of architecture like the Parthenon.

In class we are not doing much yet. Right now we have assigned the factions to different table groups. Also, we have made a chant and a badge for our factions. I am part of Sparta. We also have certain rules like each woman must be escorted by a man into the room and we have to roll the dice which determines whether your group loses points or gains points.

Choices -- 11-30-11

I have been reading a book called Schooled for Battle of the Books. So far, I think it's a pretty good book. I like the author's writing style because he gives detail but not so much that it's boring. I also like the plot because it is interesting to see a kid that was home schooled and how he transitioned to a public school. Personally I would never want to be home schooled and especially not by my grandmother like the main character, Cap was in the book. In the book, Cap's grandmother seemed pretty cool and they got along and he liked being home schooled. Cap and his grandmother live in a hippie community. His grandmother had an unusual name. I wondered why someone would name their daughter Rain. But, there are some bad things about the book. Like how it gets told from a different point of view or a different student in every chapter. I think it gets confusing because their lives are all connected to the same public school but sometimes I don't really get what it's saying. Besides that I think it's a pretty good book and I want to see how the story continues and ends. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I cut and pasted the Blog that I decided to comment on. I spent a lot of time looking for something that I could comment on. I chose the Blog below because I liked the 7 Random Facts Assignment and Prof. McG's class did it too. I liked it because it was fun and you got to be creative. Here is what I commented on her Blog site: I like how you did the 7 Random Facts too. We did this assignment in my Language Arts class and I thought it was fun and I thought it was fun the way you did it. I agree that it is a good way to learn about others and make connections. I thinks it's fun the way you have online nicknames. Random Facts Dearest Dragons and the World! I love this assignment. 7 Random Facts gives us a chance to look for connections all around the world. We post 7 things about us, everybody else posts 7 things about themselves...we go around the world and leave comments! It's supposed to be fun and supposed to teach us how to leave appropriate comments with other classes around the world. You will need to sign your comments with your online nickname and leave a hyperlink back to your blog. (Please do not fill in your email address.) So now....we wait. We wait until the other classrooms have posted their 7 Random Fact assignments, then we start our search! Love, Prof. McG from MyDragonBlog.com

There are many things I am thankful for but if I had to pick three things it would be that I have things like technology, my dog and my family.
I am thankful for technology because it is helpful because it can entertain me or it can be used to help me get tasks done. Also, technology can be used to get my work done I could use the internet and do other tasks.
I am thankful for my dog because he is always by my side…well almost always there. I can pet him and play with him. I can also play catch or fetch .Sometimes when I’m board I’ll just pet him or I could play tug of war with him.
I am thankful that I have me family to stand next to me and give me advice and guidance. In my family I also have my brothers to mislead me and torment me for the rest of my life. It makes me happy to know that there will be bitterness and hard ship because of them but I do the same to them.
Those are three things I am thankful for.

It's a mystery! -- 11-13-11

I think that "The Fall of the House of Usher" is the best mystery that I have read.I think it's the best because it has suspense and it builds up the story so the reader knows what's going on. I also think it's the best because it is unlike "The Pit and the Pendulum" where it's confusing in the beginning. In The Pit and the Pendulum the way it starts out, I had no idea what was going on because it had no introduction. That's why I think "The Fall of the House of Usher" is a better story.
Something else that I like from "The Fall of the House of Usher" is the setting. Good mysteries need to have an appropriate setting and the setting in The Fall of the House of Usher is dull and dark and the house is old and creepy. The puzzle in the story makes you wonder about the strange noises that the characters hear. I also like the way the story ends because I thought that that maybe Roderick's sister was still alive.
An intro that I think would make a good introduction is: It was a dark and stormy night. I was walking through the woods when I heard a loud and scary noise from behind. I quickly turned and BAM! I got knocked out. When I awoke I found myself laying there but couldn't seem to remember anything. Who was I? What happened to me? How did I get here? That is what I think would make a good mystery introduction.

The main reason is so that the lives that were lost were not lost in vain. Also it is important to honor the families of the men and women who died serving our country and protecting our freedom. Also we should never take our freedom for granted.

Bustin Da Ghosts -- 10-21-11

For my choice I will type a story.

Yesterday, I was walking down the street and I saw a little ghost. Then, I called ghost busters. They came and sucked up the ghost in a vacuum. I thought isn't it weird that I can see ghosts? But I ignored the thought and just kept walking to school.

At school there was nobody there. I wandered around and to my surprise I found a big weird looking transparent ghost and then, I ran. Unfortunately, the ghost called more ghosts who seemed to be everywhere. I needed help so I called the ghost busters and they gave me a vacuum and we sucked up all the ghosts and travelled the world tougher and won a Nobel peace prize, The End

On October 19, the Associated Press wrote an article called "Lions and tigers shot in Ohio; owner freed them." It describes that an exotic animal owner in Ohio freed his animals and then shot himself. The sheriff and his deputies shot almost 50 of the wild animals. Eighteen of them were Bengal tigers and seventeen were lions. During the hunt that started Tuesday night and ended Wednesday afternoon many schools in the area were closed. Police were ordered to shoot the animals instead of using tranquilizers. One reason is because the animals that were shot with the darts could escape and then wake up again. Another reason is the animals were becoming aggressive and the sheriff said, "Once the nightfall hit our biggest concern was having these animals roaming."
I think that they made the right move shooting the animals instead of tranquilizing them because if they did start roaming they could harm people. I also think that the person who released these animals made a bad decision and put many lives at risk. I think that the person who had the animals was not responsible and should have donated them to a zoo instead of releasing them because the zoo could start a breeding program because the Bengal tigers are endangered.

Books? -- 10-11-11

I am not reading a book right now. However, the most recent book I have read is Level Up by Gene Yuen Lang. The main character is named Dennis. His destiny is to become a gastroenterologist. Thing is that his dad wants him to be a doctor. Angels also tell him that it is his destiny, but it is not what he wants. The book is funny because, he doesn't want to become a gastroenterologist and instead he wants to play video games for a living. In the book he learns that the angels are broken promises that his father made and that he wants Dennis to become a better man than he was. (His father died.) In the end, Dennis does not become a gastroenterologist, but instead he becomes a different type of doctor. He becomes a colonoscopist because when he plays the video games he is saving people lives, but he realizes the people's lives he saves in the games aren't real.. I would recommend this to people who like funny, realistic fiction and people who like American Born Chinese.

blogging -- 12-07-09

I have mixed thoughts about blogging. I dislike writing and I dislike blogging. I dislike both because it is hard for me to come up with ideas to write about. I don't like how it's usually a certain set topic. Personally, l like to write what I want to write, instead of having a prompt. Writing is not my idea of fun, and if I have to write, I like free writing. People also have trouble reading my handwriting, and I have to rewrite things, so they can read it. It is basically such a big, boring chore.
On the other hand, I would rather blog than write. It is quicker to type and it is easier to correct. I like using a computer for my homework. It looks neater and I like being up to date with technology.
Blogging for Language Arts has gone pretty smoothly. I think my blogging has improved. I hope it will also improve my writing. My next goal is to improve my writing buy working harder on it. Another goal is to look at what others are blogging. I think this will give me ideas for writing. It might also be a good way to learn what others are thinking. So, I conclude that there are more pros than cons. I vote that we keep blogging.
