Honestly, I really don't want this year to end. This year was my favorite year of school so far because I met a lot of new people like Alexa, Sky, and Ashley. My grades were really good at the beginning of the year, but they got worse because I started getting lazy. I learned that I really need to start using my time in and out of class wisely. I always end up not finishing my homework because I start too late. A thing that I learned the hard way was to always try to finish and turn in your work on time. Because I didn't do that, I got a couple Bs this year. Last year I got all As. In 8th grade I want to go to bed earlier so I won't have a hard time getting up in the morning like I did this year. I was absent for my first class of the day a bunch of times because of this. That caused me to miss a lot of work. My advice to next year's seventh graders is to not worry about your social life so much. Focus on academics more.

I thought International Towne was a pretty cool experience. We were lucky because a lot of other kids will probably never get the chance to go there. I thought it would be similar to Young AmeriTowne, but it was actually a lot different. It was a lot smaller and I was more busy than I was in Young AmeriTowne. I kind of learned about how international buisness works. I would make the brakes longer. Since they were only 15 minutes long, I felt rushed to get to all of the countries. I think the best part was getting to buy things and do the cultural activities.

I guess I'll write about my trip to Italy last summer because it was really fun!! The plane ride and the jet lag were the only things I didn't like about the trip! First, we stayed in Venice. It was really rainy there, but it was still SUPER fun! I have a red and gold mask that is in the shape of a cat's face from there! Venice is famous for their masks. There was at least three mask shops on every street! We also visited a lot of churches there. Next we went to Tuscany. We stayed in a small but nice villa that used to be a wine cellar. There was a lot of beautiful scenery there and our rental car was a BMW!!! We drove to a bunch of little towns there. I wasn't a big fan of all the winding roads! We also went to Florence and visited a lot of museums...... It wasn't the most fun in the world but I guess it was ok. And finally we drove to Positano on the Amalfi Coast. That was my favorite place that we visited because it was on the beach and the weather was REALLY nice! There was also a lot of shopping there. One night there was fireworks at midnight, but I slept through them because I was sick. Also, I had the best breakfast ever when I was in Italy! It was all pastries and fruit, so I always remembered to get up early because of that! I really hope to go back to Italy someday!

When I first started reading Seedfolks, I thought that I wouldn't like it and that it was really boring. But now that I'm almost finished with it and I understand it more, I like it. I think the big idea of the book is that working together with others can make a big difference in the world. I don't really have a favorite character because I can't really relate to any of them, but I guess I have to choose one. I like Kim because I thought it was nice how she planted lima beans because her dad was a farmer and she wanted him to notice her.

My favorite activity last week was painting rocks in Mrs. Lubich's class. I liked this one the most because I used to paint rocks with my mom when I was little, and I haven't done it in a while.

The research portion of my project went pretty well, but I haven't actually started board or my visual aid yet. I don't think that part of the project will help me answer my guiding question, but all the research I did helped. I am not ready at all! I thought dissecting chicken wings was really gross! I really didn't like it because I'm not a big fan of meat. Especially raw meat! We learned about the muscles that make the wing move. We had to cut into the wing and look at all the tendons, muscles, and tissue. We also had to do a worksheet about the parts of the inside of the wing and their functions.

The book that I am reading now is called Bunheads by Sophie Flack. I really like this book a lot because it is about ballet and I LOVE ballet!!! Another reason I like it is because I've never really read any books about ballet, so its something new. It is also a pretty advanced book, so it brings up my reading level.

Some tools that an author can use to create effect in their writing are language and style. Language creates effect because if they use boring language, their writing will be boring and make the reader less interested. They should use more complicated words to makes you think a little. Style creates effect because the style of the author's writing influences their writing. It can make the reader feel different emotions like being sad or happy after reading the author's work. For example, after reading "In Just" by E.E. Cummings, I felt happy because the poem was about spring time and it reminded me of how nice spring is.

I think this quote means that if you let whatever happened go, and just be nice to your enemy, you will become friends. A way that this could apply to my own life is that sometimes in dace, we get really competitive. We shouldn't be that way. We should be supporting each other. Yes, it could be used to make a positive change in someone's attitude. It could make an impact on the world because if people loved each other, like what the quote said, there wouldn't be as much crime and unhappiness.

My goal for the new year is to eat as healthy as possible. As a dancer, I think this goal is important to me so I can stay in great shape. This goal involves change because for most of 2011, I ate a lot of junk food. I always stuffed myself. This year I hope this will change. If I eat healthier, I will also feel healthier. Even this goal is hard to achieve, I think I can reach it.

Overall, I thought that this project was really fun. I've never done a project like this one before. Working in a group this way was interesting. The communication in our group was pretty effective. It all worked out, except for the recording part. Getting all of the information on the wiki went well. That was the easiest part for us. The things we could have done differently were starting the recording earlier and deciding who is going to do what earlier than we did. Next year, I think you and Mrs, G should give us more time to work on our wikis. The whole project seemed rushed to me. Maybe that will help next year's students.

Greece has many different interesting facts about it's country and culture.Here are some interesting facts about Greece. I learned this information in pages 300 to 305 in our Humanities textbook. First, in ancient times, there was no such thing as Greece. There was only people who spoke Greek spread all over the islands and coasts of the Mediterranean Sea. An early civilization called the Minoans influenced the Greeks. The Minoan towns and palaces were destroyed, eventually. It was most-likely that the mainland Greeks did this. The Minoans influenced a civilization that developed around 1600 B.C. This civilization developed among the Greek speakers an the mainland in Greece.

In Humanities class, we are doing a lot of interesting and very fun things. Here is what we're doing. We got separated into city-states. My city-state is Megara. We have to wear something as a symbol of unity within our city-state. We gain and loose points by doing activities such as tongue-twisters and fates. Our groups also have a logo, a chant, or some sort of secret handshake. All of the city-states are competing against each other to get the most points and win.

Ever since I started dancing, I've always dreamed of being the sugar plum fairy in the Nutcracker. On Black Friday, I finally got to be it. I performed four times at the Chapel Hills Mall. The performances were just small parts of the full Nutcracker we are doing at the Pikes Peak Center. Although I'm not the sugar plum fairy in the big Nutcracker, it was still a GREAT experience. This experience made me gain confidence because I'm only 12 and that was only my 2nd performance en pointe, so I still have six years to do it again. It also prepared me for the future, when I will do that variation again. So, that was my wonderful experience of being the sugar plum fairy!

The three things I am thankful for are my parents, my education, and my dance studio. I am thankful for my parents because they help me through hard times at dance and at school. They also provide me food water, love, and clothes! I am thankful for my education because if I didn't have it, I wouldn't be able to get into college and if I don't get into college, then I will not be able to support myself in the future. I am thankful for my dance studio because without it, I wouldn't be able to do the thing I love most- dance! I'm also thankful for the teachers there because I know they really care about me, even though they can be harsh sometimes. They also try to make me the best dancer I can be. Those are the thing that I am most thankful for.

The best mystery I read was "The Pit and the Pendulum." It was the best because in my opinion, it was the most suspenseful out of all of the stories. Also, it was the most unique. It wasn't just your typical mystery. The author(Edgar Allen Poe)made it really suspenseful which made me want to keep reading. That is what made it the best.

So far, I enjoy blogging because I've never really done it in school before, so its something new. My experience has been good so far. Lately, I haven't been getting very good grades of my blogs, but that is just because I haven't been reading the directions well enough. Its not the actual blog. I think blogging would be a fun way to do writing assignments. Although blogging is fun, I feel like I'm not learning anything from it. I feel like I'm just writing about random things, not language arts.

Polar bears are in danger of becoming extinct for many reasons. Here's why: Since the polar bears' habitat,ice, is melting because of global warming, polar bears and their cubs are having to swim a lot farther than usual to find a new home. Congress is not paying attention to the Clean Air Act limits on mercury and global warming pollution. This is ruining conservation programs. Congress is also doing dangerous drilling off of Alaska's coast.

In my opinion, I think we should have more charities and programs to save the polar bears. Congress should pay more attention because they are ruining some of the polar bears' habitats because of the drilling that they are doing.

The book I am reading now is called Best Friends for Never. I like this book because some of the characters and I have some characteristics in common to each other. The book is also very entertaining. A reason I don't like the book is because some of the character's actions in it influence me in a bad way. Best Friends for Never is by Lisi Harrison.

So far, my favorite part of seventh grade would be enrichment class. I think enrichment is the best so far because we get to do our own newscasts. We got to pick our groups, get assigned which specific part of the world we are going to talk about, and film our newscast. My group is called the Neon News. Our scripts are fun and our fun facts are funny. Also, Our group gets along with each other very well. Another reason I like enrichment class is because we get time to read. We don't get to do this in any of our other classes. That's why enrichment is my favorite part of seventh grade so far.

I think books definitely do not need to be banned. Freedom of speech falls into this because people have the right to say what they want to read. People also have the right to write what they want. In my opinion, we should all have the right to choose what we want to read because we are all free citizens and we have freedom of speech.

Fox Run Adventure -- 09-29-11

In my opinion, the best part of the day was when we first got to the park and did the super-plant activity with Mrs. Kosters, the oh deer activity with Mrs. Gagnon, the predator and prey game with Mr. Howard, and the pond study with Mrs. Lubich. I think this was the best part of the day because we learned a lot while we were having fun and not just sitting in a classroom all day. The best activities were the predator and prey game and the magic stones game. These were the best activities because in the magic stones game, we learned how to cooperate with others and it was a really fun game! The predator and prey game was great too because we got to run around a lot which is something we don't get to do a lot of when we're at school. I learned that some planes are made to blend in with their surroundings, just like some animals. Another thing I learned is that the two lakes at Fox Run Park are man-made. I always thought that they were natural, besides the fountain in one of them. Overall, I thought the field trip to Fox Run Park was super fun.

The baker who made the donuts is completely sure that he made 28 donuts and he has to give the same amount of donuts to 7 offices. He thinks that 28 divided by 7 is 13 and his co-worker thinks he is wrong, and he won't listen, but he should because HE'S WRONG! First of all, 28 divided by 7 is not 13! It is 4. So, if he wanted to give each of the seven offices the same amount of donuts, he would have to give them each 4 donuts. If the baker wanted to give each office 13 donuts, he would have to make 91 donuts! That's a lot of donuts!

My mom, my dad, and I were on a plane to Italy this summer and we were eating dinner that the plane provided. They gave us little packets of cheese and I really don't like cheese. My dad had his headphones in, so he couldn't hear how loud he was talking, so he yelled really loud, "Do you want your cheese?" Everyone looked at him and I started cracking up. I was hilarious! Then a couple seconds later, I heard a little girl up in the front say, "Yeah, I want my cheese." That was the funniest day of my life!

The Rachel's Challenge presentation left me with something to think about. I think this presentation is definitely worthwhile. The Rachel's Challenge presentation is needed because I'm pretty sure that some bullying goes on in our school and hopefully this assembly will teach the kids who are bullying others to stop and to be more like Rachel. The thing that I took away from this assembly was to accept people for who they are and to always do the right thing, even if it seems weird to others.
