Think? Yeah RIGHT!! -- 05-13-12

(Orpheus) The character Orpheus is derived from a Greek Myth of a man and a women who fall in love, but their affair is quickly ended when Orpheus's fiancé is killed on the day of their weading. Orpheus then went into mourning for several months before deciding to go to the Underworld to save his wife, but, despite HAdes warning not to look back, he gave into temptation and found his wife disipate into no more than dust. I think if you were to ask Orpheus if he thinks before he acts, he would say," Most commanly, yes. But when leading my wife out from the Underworld, my decision was rash and i regretted the entire rest of my life.

Aliens!!!! -- 04-26-12

I think an interesting topic to give a speech about would be the existance of aliens. I am a strong believer in aliens and am therefore siding with the yessers... Alien life AKA extraterrestrial life is supported by much evidence, including a planet capable of sustaining life, crop-circle mathematics, and Apollo 17. Overall I think the debate of wether or not aliens are real would be a fun and interesting topic to do a speech on.

A Very Musical Budget -- 04-06-12

The United States of America, the most "free" country in the world has been cutting Musical Programs OUT of the budget. Programs such as the Glee Clubs of America have been decreasing in numbers since 2007. So, whats going to happen next?
Our budget has been decreasing at a steady pace, and despite our amazing efforts and increasing worry, things are still getting cut. Our school music programs have been getting cut from the school budget. The money once used to fund and help buy products for the program, are now being used to buy products for the school educational programs. Music teachers are becoming more and more reliant on their own personal money to help make their classes better, and more fun.
Music is an important part of every citizens lives, and the students upbringing. Music is vital to all people and needs to be supported despite our rapid economic downfall.

Overpaid or Underappreciated -- 04-04-12

Some athletes are paid thousands, if not millions of dollars a year!!! So the question is, overpaid, or underappreciated?
Professional Athletes are paid thousands of dollars year round. In Mark Singletary's article "Pro Athletes' Salaries Aren't Overly Exorbitant", he says, "Players are no more selfish than the ownners who pay them." This statement is not only an assumption, but it is an overgeneralization. In Jelm's article, he says, "Professional sports will fail..." This stement is an opinion, and has no support or proof.
Overall, profwessional athletes are being overpaid and overappreciated.

The Battle of the Five Armies -- 03-20-12

In "The Hobbit" there is a great battle called, "The Battle of the Five Armies". I think that J.R. Tolkien's opinion view on nationalism is that he is frustrated with the other countries for starting a war. He was involved in World War 1 but wounded and sent home. Whether his book "The Hobbit" was purposefully based on World War 1 or subconciously, still remains a mystery. His view on nationalism must have been angry and upset, or at least from my view...

Mind Over Matter -- 02-08-12

In LA we are in a unit called "Be the Change". The poem "The Victor" has more than one lesson, which means lots of reactions. For example, I agree with this poems many life lessons and words of good advice. Also, confidence results in perserverance. You have to be confident in yourself and confident in the people around you, because in life, confident people always win. Finally, you need to be positive. you have to think and be positive and think you can because then you always will and you will always win even if you lose. Some of the lessons in "The Victor" are very important and just confidence boosters, but my reactoin to this poem was a positive one.

Be the Change -- 01-17-12

CHANGE
Things change
People change
Minds change
Love changes
Hearts change
Life is change
-Royal Akuaku

Reflection: This poem reminds me of a poem my friend once showed me presenting the idea that life is constantly changing. This poem represents the fact that I am constantly evolving and changing my ways and changing other things around me, like the ripple effect. Our world is in a state of declining health. We are polluting our Earth with vile substances and horrible pollutants. The poem CHANGE represents how we need to change and are changing our ways to reverse something that has been building up longer than anyone alive today has ever lived.

What Could I Not Live Without? -- 12-12-11

If there were three things I could not live without those three things would be music, books, and paper and pencils. I couldn't live without my music because it is a form of release and shows emotion and character. I couldn't live without books because books are a way to get away from lifes problems and troubles. And lastly, I wouldn't be able to live without paper and pencils because you can do anything with paper and pencils!

A Mysterious Place... -- 11-11-11

What would be the perfect setting for a mystery story? I picture a small secluded town where nothing really happens. This town would be place alongside a cold ocean, most likely to Pacific Ocean. It might be somewhere close to Seattle (rainy and cloudy) but more in Canada. Pine trees would surround my town and jagged cliffs would block the townsfolk from to crashing waves that pound and erode to cliffs. This town would be pretty undeveloped and without major chain stores. Most houses are old and the paint will have been chipped. Concrete roads most commonly turn into gravel after a very short time. Not very many people would visit this town because it has no major attractions and is pretty out of the way to visit. Most of the residents will have lived there for a very long time or are descendents of original settlers. Most residents are pretty kept to themselves, but everybody knows everybody. This is my perfect vision of a mystery setting.

Fear!!! -- 10-26-11

Fear affects all of us in many ways. I think fear can affect us in both positive and negative ways. For example, someone may get scared and freeze up, or someone may get scared and get a burst of enegy to defend themselves, or run away. As humans, we all need a healthy dose of fear, because if we didn't, our lives would be durastically different. We would live without a single fear of anything. Without fear we may see an oncoming parade of elephants and not feel fear for our lives resulting in our own death. So, as I've stated, fear affects us both in positive and negative ways, without fear, we may be dead!

Favorites!!!! -- 10-03-11

What was my most favorite short story this quarter? My favorite is "The War of the Wall". I liked this story because it has an artist involved and because of the theme of the story, don't judge a book by its cover. I've had some experience with judgment and reading about someone else who was judged but in the end didn't give up was something i could relate to, and something i enjoyed reading!

Would I hire me? UH... maybe... I do think I work pretty hard, I like a challenge, I get work in on time, and I persevere.
School, Good... or Bad??? -- 08-25-11

Ever since I was little, I've absolutely hated school, yet, if I didn't come to school, where would I be today???
One thing that absolutley stinks is getting up too early. Getting up at 5 A.M. kinda has some downsides, am I right??? A good thing about school is that if we hadn't come to school, where would we have met all of our school friends and people that we have met over the years? In addition, school has helped build who we are and what we are like, so if we hadn't come to school, we wouldn't be the type of person we are today! And finally, if we hadn;t come to school, where would we have learned about all of the things we know to this day???
In concluion, even though school has some downsides, without it, we wouldn't know half the things we know today!!!
