So You Wanna Learn About the Stock Market? -- 01-08-13

The stock market is something that people talk about every single day. Maybe your parents, teachers, and maybe even your classmates talk about the stock market. But what exactly is the stock market? The stock market is not an actual place but it actually refers to the business fo buying and selling stock. In order for ompanies to grow, they of course need money. If they issue a stock, the company can raise money without loosing money to the bank. A business that is own by a single person or a group of people cannot issue a stock. Small businesses can form a small corporation with the bank, however, in order to issue a stock. People buy stocks because it means that a person can own a part of the company known as a share. Those people are called stockholders or shareholders. When people buy shares of the company they help the company grow and typically they expect to recieve dividends from owning a share. In my case, all of the eighth graders had to pick 4 stocks and pretended like we bought a certain number of shares in each stock. I chose Bank of America, Apple, Coca-Cola, and Pfzier. I didn't pick those four for a certain reason but I did make sure that they were all from different catergories. Even though there may be an advantage in owning any type of property as well as a share in the stock market, there are also risks so be careful with your money.
Saint Report: Saint Clare of Assisi -- 12-13-12

I remember my sister well. She was a wonderful person, full of kindness and spirit. People all over the world deserve to hear of Clare’s story. Clare was my older sister. We were the daughters of the wealthy Favorino Scifi and his wife Ortalana and born in Assisi, Italy. She was born as Chiara Offreduccio. As a very young child, we all saw Clare was very devoted to prayer. She rarely engaged in the world and its activities, telling me she wanted more of a spiritual life. Since I was so young, I didn’t understand what she meant. I didn’t know what was so bad about the world in which we lived in. But later I grew to appreciate her words and have a better understanding of them. At the age of fifteen, my mother and father wanted her to marry a wealthy young man who could provide for her and them in their old age. They thought Clare was old enough and ready but she wasn’t. I knew Clare very well, of course as we were sisters and the best of friends. I knew she couldn’t handle becoming a wife and becoming in charge of a household. She just wasn’t ready. So Clare compromised that she would marry the man at the age of eighteen. However at the age of eighteen, Clare heard Francis of Assisi preach and it changed her life. We were walking to the markets one afternoon and a throng of people were gathered around him. He was speaking of the Messiah and how we should repent for our sins. It was very powerful and moving. I was only about fifteen or so and I still didn’t understand much of the world. I did as I was told and questioned nothing, unlike my sister. On the night of Palm Sunday, Clare ran away to follow Francis. I seldom heard from my sister after that. She wasn’t allowed to have contact with the outside world. I overheard a late night conversation of my parents that Clare was at San Paola delle Abdesse which was a nearby Benedictine monastry of nuns. My father almost took her out of the convent since he still wanted her to marry the wealthy man. But Clare was very reasonable and comprising and my father let her stay.

I didn’t admit it to my parents then, but I really missed my sister when she was away. I began to grow closer to God and devoted my life more to prayer, following in my sister’s example. I heard news that my sister then moved for a brief time to Sant’Angelo in Panza on Monte Subasio, a house of female penitents. I then decided to join Clare in a life full of prayer. We moved to a church Francis of Assisi built himself called the church of San Damiano. The first women to join San Damiano were called “Poor Ladies”. We wore no shoes, ate no meat, kept mostly in silence, and lived in a poor house; however, we were happy. Later on, I saw how focused Clare was on San Damiano and it soon became the main point for her new religious order. I tried to help her as best as I could but Clare was very independent so I tried to just stay out of her way. The order was known as the “Order of San Damiano”. I supported Clare throughout the entire process. We lived in an enclosure and our life consisted of manual labor and prayer. For once in my life, I was quite content and generally happy with my lifestyle. I never knew that the simple ways of living could make one so elated and closer to God.

For awhile, Francis of Assisi directed the order but then Clare received the role of abbess of San Damiano when Francis died. We were all very sad and devastated by his death. Francis was a like a father to all of us. Clare was one of the closest people to him. She looked up to him as a spiritual father figure. I was proud of my sister, however, since she had more authority than when she was prioress. Clare then continued to expand her Order as abbess while I tried to grow closer to God. I recall times when Clare was in her office working late, writing to abbesses and hindering the attempts of the pope to impose any rule on her Order which would decrease their commitment to corporate poverty. As she grew older and fell into poor health, Clare still worked hard. The pope around that time, Pope Innocent IV issued the papal bull “Solet Annure” on August 9, 1253. It confirming Clare’s rule would be the governing rule for the “Order of the Poor Ladies”. It was such a tragic day when Clare passed on to our Father in 1253, at the age of 59. I greatly missed my sister, even when she was alive. I barely saw her. She worked hard however, to preserve her order, the Order of Poor Ladies. It was then changed to the Order of Saint Clare or the “Poor Clares” in honor of Clare.

Clare was not only my sister and my best friend; she was an inspiration to all. Her strength was tested numerous times, even at the most smallest occasions. I greatly admired her strength. There was this one scare that I remember at the convent. It had been attacked by thieves and atheists. If I was in Clare’s place, I wouldn’t know how to handle the dilemma. But my sister knew. She put her faith fully in God and displayed the Holy Sacrament in s monstrance at the gates of the convent and prayed. I too prayed silently from where the other sisters and I hid for safety purposes. The attackers then left and the convent was saved. At that moment, I was overwhelmed with a mixture of pride, utter shock, and a new understanding of who my sister really was. She was filled with the Holy Spirit and it reflected in her actions. Then there was the time when she was younger and my father wanted her to marry and she refused. Typically a young girl doesn’t deny her father’s request, but even at that age Clare knew God had a life planned out for her. I am intensely proud to be Clare’s sister. She has taught me to persevere and have faith in God, something that I intend to teach everyone everywhere. Although the future is unclear, Clare has taught me that if you put your trust in God everything will be alright eventually. I hope others learn this from Clare too, even if you never knew Clare. She was a wonderful person. Even though my legacy might be long forgotten after I pass on, I hope hers lives on forever.

Saint Clare became a saint because she cared for others and had strong faith in God. Her work towards her order proved she was a resilient woman. Justice, temperance, courage, faith, hope, and love were the virtues Saint Clare possessed. I chose this saint because she is a great role model to look up to seeing as she had accomplished so much during her lifetime. Though Saint Clare and I didn’t share similar struggles, in the future Saint Clare could help me to heavily rely on God, keep faith in him, and possibly strive to be a saint as she had strove throughout her life to accomplish many things relying on just her faith. The name I wish to be called at Confirmation is Clare. The image is a fresco of Saint Clare holding a palm expressing her thoughtfulness.

Super-Size Me: An Overview -- 06-01-12

This year, 7th grade has learned about nutrition and exercise for our bodies in health class. Super-Size Me is a documentary that we watched during class to learn more about nutrition and exercise. This is a reflection on the documentary.

Super-Size Me is about documentarian named Morgan Spurlock who decides to prove that McDonald's foods are unhealthy by eating only McDonald's food for thirty days for three meals a day. And if he is asked if he would like his meal super sized, he has to say yes. Morgan also has to eat every single thing on the menu by the end of the thirty days at least once. Before Morgan starts his experiment, he is tested by three doctors- general practitioner, a cardiologist, and gastroenterologist. They say his health is good and will monitor him during the experiment. Morgan also talks to a dietitian/nutritionist and an exercise physiologist. Morgan is also imitating the lifestyle of the people who eat fast good so he will not exercise for the thirty days, limiting his steps to under 5,000 per day. As the experiment begins, Morgan starts off good. He eats three meals a day and tries to limit his steps to under 5,000. He finds the meals addictive because of the ingredients in the food. During the documentary, Morgan discusses issues in America's obesity and the problem with McDonald's food. As the days go on, Morgan finds himself feeling sick eating McDonalds food. His visits the three doctors again as well as the dietitian/nutritionist and the physiologist. They tell him he is gaining more fat and loosing muscle mass and if he does feel sick and unwell, it would be wise to not continue the experiment because it could endanger himself. But he continues with the experiment anyway. Then as the experiment nears the end, Morgan experiences heart palpitations. The doctors tell him he should stop immediately because it could cause his heart severe damage. And despite the warning, Morgan continues. Doctors are surprised at the damage done to his heart and other problems that the diet had caused as he finishes his experiment. He makes it to day 30, achieving his goal.

I learned from this documentary that McDonald and fast food is not healthy for you. It doesn't provide all the nutrients you need to have a healthy diet and life-style. People should exercise at least 30 minutes a day or depending how many calories you had eaten that day. You can also eat foods that are not so healthy for you less and foods that are good for you more. The more calories you eat and the less you exercise, the more weight you gain. The fewer calories you eat and the more you exercise, you can end up losing weight. But if you eat the same amount of calories and exercise the same amount, you can maintain good body weight. This documentary taught me to really watch how I eat because it could really affect my health. Seeing Morgan feel sick and unwell from eating McDonald's food made me realize that I shouldn't eat those foods and put whatever is in them into my body because it could do damage to my body and to my health.

7th grade social studies for a part of the year is learning about Europe. For this project, everyone in our class was assigned a European country to learn more about. I was assigned the country of Switzerland. For each country, we had to write about the location, culture, history, etc. on a Google document and then our teacher turned the document into a flipbook. Here is a look at my project.

Change the World: Millennium Development Goals -- 10-19-11

Nations all over the world are joining together to help countries in need. The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) were made to focus on some of the serious problems we have in our world. If we all come together, the world can be a better place. For more information on this topic, click here.

           The Millennium Development Goals are:

                        1. End hunger and poverty

2. Education for all

3. Gender equality

4. Child health

5. Maternal health

6. Fight HIV/AIDS

7. Environmental sustainability

and 8. Worldwide partnership

The Millennium Development goals are taking action too. In Afghanistan, the number of girls attending schools jumped from 15000 to 2.2 million from 2001 to 2008. In India, 20 million more out of school children have been able to attend school since 2001. They are both enhacing Goal 2: Education for all.

Roller Coaster Physics -- 04-05-11

Our class wanted to test and use Newton's Laws of Motion. They are: 1. An object at rest stays at rest unless acted on and an object in motion stays in motion unless acted on. 2. The greater the mass of the object being accelerated, the great the amount of force needed to accelerate the object. 3. For every force there is a reaction force that pushes back in the opposite direction.

My group made the "Waffle Napalm". It was made out of wood and steel. You started going up a large hill, dropping down, and then going into a tube. You looped into a shark-tank cave and speed would make you loop and twist, giving you a small sensation of weightlessness. You would come across a few small hills and then stop where you began. You rode in waffle bombs and were drenched in syrup when you came across steep hills. Energy, acceleration, and force made you go. Our roller coaster had a lot of kinetic energy so it moved fast. I was the historian. The other two people in my group were a physicist and a design engineer. The historian found out history about roller coasters. The physicist found out what made a roller coaster move. The design engineer found out what roller coasters were made of.

Our roller coaster worked fairly well. The first one we built on a roller coaster stimulator was a failure but our current coaster was a success. I would have more steep hills to bring a rush of adrenaline to the rider. The momentum of the hill going up would result in more loops and twists in the end. I would also have made it a little more realistic, even though I enjoyed making the "Waffle Napalm".

Nickel's Biography -- 11-04-10

Hi, everyone! You might know me as Nickel, the faithful pet and loyal sidekick to KB. Or just the blue ferret jumping at your curser on the page. But whatever you know me as, this is my story:

I was born a regular ferret, black, brown fur with those "beady" rodent eyes. I was born in a litter of five. My brothers and sisters and I just started to get more active out of our haven when those evil two-legged scruffy men caught us and took us away from our home. They sedated us (which hurt a lot). We were taken to a lab (I just looked up the word) to be experimented on (looked up that one too). I was seperated from my family into a special room of my own. The two-legged clean man with a white coat on (ooh, he's a scientist!) examined me with a glass thing and goggles (oh, it's called a magnify glass!). Then, they took ths tube-thing with blue water in it and dropped it on my fur. Then they bathed me in a metal box (oh, a sink). My fur turned blue! Blue! Then they put me in a white box (a cage), stuck more needles in me, and dumped me in a dark room. I started to feel homesick and bared my teeth at those lab-coat people every day. Finally, I was taken out of the dark room and sold overseas.

I ended up here. (Thank goodness for that!) Now, I'm happier. People visit me and play with me and feed me! (Oh, yes!!! Food!!) I have an owner and visitors and family.

As you might've notice, I like learning new words and meeting new visitors!!!! I help reading the comments and I LOVE what people have to say!!!! So write us some (me especially, hehe, kidding!) telling us how you like the page, other things, or new vocabulary for ME!!

Short Story: Team Work -- 09-14-10

Devon Grayhill had just gotten back from her third soccer game of the season. They had just lost 8 to three. Her brother, Trent was walking her home. "Boy, you guys stunk!" Trent laughed. Devon glared. "You try playing with my team. They're impossible!" Trent rolled his eyes. "Yeah, sure. Blame it on the team." Devon crossed her arms over her chest. "But it's true! Meg kept passing it to Georgia who wasn't open." Georgia was the only girl Meg knew. So it was more than obvious that when Meg got the ball, she would pass it to Georgia. Devon felt annoyed that people blamed the problem on her like Trent. It was't her fault. It was her team's.

The next day during practice, Coach Steno was furious. "We lose every single game! Come on, ladies, this isn't social hour! This is soccer practice! We have another game this weekend and if we aren't in shape for it, next practice I'm making all you of do laps around this entire field!" Devon groaned. Every single practice, she thought. Georgia and Meg were talking, Ella, Karen, and Lisa were all huddled up, Morgan, Sam, Tara, and Lily were huddled up too, and the only two girls that weren't conversing were Devon and Hailey. Devon strode over to Hailey. "We have to do something about this." Devon said. "Whatever it is, I'm with you." Hailey said.

That night, Devon invited Hailey over to her house and they started planning their scheme. They absoutely had to get every girl on their team on the same page for the plan to work. When they finished, Hailey looked at Devon. "Is this going to work?" Devon nodded. "Definitely."

The next practice, Devon let Hailey bring their project. She propped it up by the bleachers with a sheet over it. "What's that?" Morgan asked. Devon took a deep breath. Luckily, Coach Steno was still on the phone. "Listen up! We have a game against the Vultures this weekend. Our school is counting on us to make a win." Devon said. "So?" Tara said. "We all know we're going to lose." Devon shook her head. "No, we're not." "How is that possible? We stink!" Ella exclaimed. "What I have under the sheet is what we're all good at." Hailey removed the sheet. It was a bright and colorful poster on a cork board. By each girls' name was a picture showing the girl's talent or hobby. "Each one of us is special. Together, we make an amazing team. We just have to work together to win."

During the big game, all the girls were pumped and ready. They each looked motivated. Earlier, Georgia introduced Meg to some of the other girls on the team so everyone knew each other fairly well. Devon was proud of the girls' efforts to win. When they took their positions, Hailey looked at Devon. "Teamwork!" she announced. "Teamwork!" everyone yelled back. This is going to be a good game, Devon thought confidently. The referee blew the whistle and the game began.

Far, far from mortal kind, a village called Auroran lied. Large, stony walls kept the village safe and a Protection Charm casted by the Queen also protected the villagers. A river flowed into Auroran making a small whole in the Back Wall. The River made a deep pond which they called Mafaro Pond. Ocean surrounded the West Wall were boats sailed. At the East Wall, cottages lined up against it, stacking on top of one another. Everywhere else, stores and traders were settled. In the Center Circle, was a large Castle in which Queen Aurora, who the village was named after by her grandfather King Alvaroar, lived. The Queen, a well-dressed, worried witch was pacing in her grand Queen's room. Her servant kept trying to calm her down but Queen Aurora was all worked up. The Great Duke had just come by telling her she needed to find an apprentice. Queen Aurora hadn't had an apprentice for 8 years, and the Wondrous Council thought she needed to refreshen her skills with an apprentice. For the Queen, choosing an apprentice was difficult. That apprentice could have power someday and the Queen didn't want power to fall in the wrong hands. That decision was hard, until Esmee Sage came.

Anne Frank -- 11-19-09

Who was Anne Frank? Anne Frank was a 13year old writer in WWI. She wrote in her diary telling people what happened during that time. At that time, Aldof Hitler was becoming the chancellor or prime minister of Germany. Anne Frank was born in Germany. She had an older sister named Margot, a mother called Edith, and a father called Otto. Hilter conviced many people that Jewish were "nonhuman". Then, his followers under the command of Hitler, started banning Jews to go in certain places. They also made Jews wear a yellow star on their jacket where everyone could see. Jewish cildren, such as Anne had to sit in the back of the classroom with the other Jewish kids. After banning, Jewish people were put in concentration camps where they would work until their death. Anne's father decided they would go into hiding. So Anne and her family, another family called the Van Pels, and a doctor moved into a place called the Secret Annex. It was an attic on the very top of Otto's old office. A bookshelf acted like a door so now one would expect it. Living in the Annex was hard. In the day time, no one could make a sound or they would be caught. In the nightime, beds were hard and room was limited. They all lived in the Annex for two years. Eventually, they were caught. They all got sent to concentration camps, and Anne was seperated from her father. Every day, Anne worked hard. Then, she and her sister got sent to Poland to another concentration camp. Margot caught a rare disease and died soon after. Anne died later. Anne Frank died at only 15. Only her father survived the camp. Anne was the voice of the Holocaust.
During art class, I painted my art work with white paint. It was covered with papier mache last week. It was fun because KV and DH were painting too. JD came back today! At recess, our teacher was out so we could play soccer! Soccer was banned before because of all the fighting, and the only way we could play was if she was watching. It was fun to finally play soccer again. I really want to read this one book my friend told me about. It's a warriors book. It's called Bluestar's Quest. Then, some kids were playing this game with a ball that looked fun. So we played for a while. Later, I went to piano. I learned Silent Night, more of it, and O Holy Night, another Christmas song. I also played some old songs I have been working on.

WARRIORS: Warriors are these cool books about cats that live in the wild in Clans, and fight other clans for territory and hunting rights(The four clans are: ThunderClan, RiverClan, ShadowClan, and WindClan). The main character is Rusty who is a kittypet(house cat) that discovers ThunderClan, joins them and is later known as Firepaw, then Fireheart, then Firestar. That is just the first series. Then it goes on telling about the children, then grandchildren of Firestar. If you want to read the 1st series look for these books: Warriors Into the Wild, Warriors Fire and Ice, Warriors Forest of Secrets, Warriors Rising Storm, Warriors Dangerous Path, and Warriors The Darkest Hour. These books are one of my favorites!
The House on the Corner:Chapter Two -- 11-03-09

A cold shiver ran down Paige's back as she hung up the phone. She didn't want to stay at Dunkin Manor for two more minuets. Paige was going to ask to go home but stopped herself. If she was going to be a detective, a good one, then she was going to have to toughen up and stay. Paige then thought of her stay here as an opertunity to find out the mystery of the light in the attic. Paige walked back outside to Ledinia who was waiting patiently by the door. "Are you able to stay?" Ledinia asked. Paige wanted to say 'No' but she just nodded her head, she felt all choked up to say anything else. "Great, I'll run and tell Massador to get a room ready for you. In the mean time, come stay in the ladies parlor." Ledinia turned on her heel and headed down the long corridor, stopping at her right and turning into a short hallway that ended with a door. Ledinia turned the knob slowly, and Paige got ready to run. When the door opened, the room was brightly lit and there was a dark red velvet couch in the middle of the room. Paige stepped inside again cautiously. The room was a royal shade of blue and paintings covered the wall all sizes. There was a fireplace at the far end of the room and at one corner, a reading seat. "This is the ladies parlor. Mother hates it but I play with my guests in here a lot, when they come." Ledinia said. Paige shivered at hearing the words, "when they come," which rang in her head like church bells after mass. "Just wait here." Ledinia slammed the door and Paige was in a creepy room, in a creepy house, all by herself. Paige took a seat on the couch and found a stack of books behind it. Paige thought her investigation should start with these books. Paige picked up the first one which cover read, "Magic Curses", Paige blew the dust that lay on the book and opened it to the first page. As page read, she found the curses more dangerous, more vicious, and more creepy than the first ones. Paige stopped when the door flung open. It was Ledinia and another girl was standing next to her. The girl was slightly taller than Ledinia. She had sleek, dark black hair, and piercing blue eyes. She wore a brown dress with cobweb designs on them. Ledinia and the girl looked similar, almost related. "Paige, this is Orestra. Orestra is my older sister." Ledinia said stepping forward. Orestra walked in the room. Paige guessed her age was about 13 or 14. "Yes, I am Orestra Sapphira Dunkin. You must be Paige Red, the girl who lives 7 houses away from here, and the girl who befriended my sister." Orestra's voice was cool but Paige could see fire buring in her eyes for some reason. "Orestra, she is a guest." a new voice startled Paige as the voice spoke. It was cold, icy, and spooky all at the same time. A woman with a long shadowy, black dress walked in, her hair straight in a bun. "Hello, dear, I am Mrs. Dunkin." Mrs. Dunkin held out her hand. Paige felt her long, black pianted nails dig slightly in her skin. as Paige shook her cold hand. Paige was awed at this vision. Three Dunkins standing in front of her, all looking similar in hair and dresses. Paige could picture her and her mom standing next to each other, but they would never look this similar as the Dunkin girls were with their mom. "Can I leave now? I was in the middle of operating on a rat." Orestra said. Paige shuddered at the thought of going into a disgusting rat's body. "Don't be rude, Orestra, stay a while." Mrs. Dunkin sat down on the couch next to Paige and Ledinia pulled up a small foot rest to sit on. Paige thought she would ask Mrs. Dunkin some questions about the family. "Mrs. Dunkin, are these your only daughters?" Paige asked. Mrs. Dunkin turned to her then spoke, "No, dear, I have one more daughter by the name of ....." She took a long pause before whispering the name, "Wendy." Paige wondered why she was so scared to say the name. "Who is Wendy?" Paige asked again. She thought Mrs. Dunkin would answer, but it was Orestra. "Wendy is 8 years old. She has honey brown hair that are always in braids, and she wears frilly dresses by the colors of blue, pink, and white. She is a disgrace to this family!" Orestra almost shouted her last sentence. Paige wondered why this was so horrible. "Why is she a disgrace?" Paige asked. Paige wondered to know the truth. "Wendy isn't related to us. All Dunkins have black hair and hate the colors pink, blue and white. She is strange and weird. Mother never lets her leave the house to disgrace us. Wendy plays in the backlawn and Ellis watches her." Ledinia explained. "Another strange one!" Orestra hand her hands in fists and her cold blue gaze sweept the room like a giant broom cleaning out dirt. "Relax, Orestra, Wendy is our secret. Isn't that right Paige? If you blurt a word about Wendy Clementine to anybody," Mrs. Dunkin stared at Paige, her black eyes suddenly turning to cold stone. "We'll just have to do something about it." Paige's hands trembled and spine shivered as she said those words. "I promise to say nothing about Wendy to anybody." Paige sweared. She didn't want any trouble, especially since she was supposed to find out the mystery of this house. Mrs. Dunkin nodded. "Good, Orestra and Ledinia, show Paige her room, I mean Ledinia's. "Mrs. Dunkin's voice was calmer. "Go now." Orestra swept out of the room, followed by Ledinia and Paige. They past by 12 doors before they came to a stop. It was a double door with bronze knobs that were so old, paint was chipping off. Ledinia slowly tunred the knobs, then flung the open with full force. The room inside was large. 3 dark red, velvet sofas were in a circle and in the middle was a brown coffe table. On the far right side was a giant fireplace that seemed to never be used. On the far wall on the opposite side was a dark black curtain that covered a quarter of the wall. Then, next to it was a door that was closed. The room seemed warm when a swift, gust of wind swept through the room. Paige shivered a little. Orestra tasted the air. "Someone is here." Orestra's voice was mild but here blue eyes narrowed, searching the room. "Wendy!" A small girl about 8, crawled out from her hiding place from behind the sofa. Her white dress seemed to stand out against the dark red of the sofa, and the deep gray of the carpet. Wendy had honey brown hair that were in perfect little braids, and she wore a white dress with blue flower patterns here and there. Wendy looked to the floor, she was obviousely scared. "Wendy, what are you doing here? Where should you be?" Orestra was tapping her foot impatiently. "Ellis and I were playing hide-and-go- seek. She counted, and I thought I would trick her and hide here. " Wendy's voice was quiet as she stared at the floor. "I should be at the greenhouse." Orestra's blue gaze burned like fire. She was angry. "Well, what did I tell you about staying in the house?" "You told me to stay in the backlawn or the greenhouse so I wouldn't disgrace the family." Wendy mumbled. Then, the door at the far end of the room, flung open. A showdowy man stepped in. He wore a brown tie, a black suit, and black shiny shoes. His hair was dark as night and his eyes were as shodowy as himself. Wendy then came running to the man calling, "Papa!" So, the man was Mr. Dunkin. The man that supposedly worked in the darkless attic. "Father, this girl has no obediance!" Orestra shrieked. Her eyes were burning towards Wendy, who hid behind Mr. Dunkin. Ledinia acknowledged her father with a nod of her head. " Relax, my sweet Saphire. Wendy is allowed to stay inside, too much fresh air will kill her." Mr. Dunkin smiled at Wendy. His eyes filling the opposite of Orestra's, warm and loving. Mr. Dunkin kissed Wendy at the top of her head, then walked toward the curtains. "Would that really be bad if Wendy died?" Orestra snorted. What Paige thought were windows, were actually stairs leading to the highest floor. Wendy then came bouncing over to Paige. "Hello! I'm Wendy Clementine. I don't have the family name becuase I'm not a Dunkin yet, but I will be! Orestra's teaching me!" Wendy's voice was so full of joy and happieness. It was very different from what Ledinia first sounded to Paige. Wendy honey brown hair was very different from Ledinia's and Orestra's. Wendy's soft green eyes were completely different from Orestra's icy blue ones and Ledinia's dull black ones. Wendy was indeed different from the rest of the Dunkins. Just then, Orestra broke Paige's train of thought. "You will never be a Dunkin even if I taught you everything!" Orestra then stormed towards the curtains the disappeared in them. "Sissy's mad. I never should've came. " Wendy sighed. "I'll be in the cellar if you want me." Wendy then slumped into the curtains but instead of walking up, she walked down. "Why is Wendy's room in the cellar?" Paige asked, curious to know. "Wendy's room is actually not in the cellar. We call her room the Crawl closet. You must walk down the cellar, and underneath the stairs is her small room. The cellar is actually the kitchen. In the dining hall, you can get to the cellar from there. " Ledinia explained. Paige nodded in response. "Let's get going if you want to rest. It's a long way to go." Ledinia started to walk across the room and Paige followed, but they were stopped by a young woman, around 17. She had long straight brown hair and sweet brown eyes. She wore a white button down shirt, and a long sky blue skirt. "Ledinia, have you seen Wendy? I've looked for her everywhere. You see, we where playing hide- and- seek and she just disappeared from the greenhouse. " The woman explained. "Paige, this is Ellis Campton. She works for father and watches, plays, and tutors Wendy. Ellis, this is my guest, Paige." Ledinia introduced us. "An honor to meet a guest of Ledinia." Ellis said politely, then curtsied. "I've seen Wendy." Paige said. She liked Ellis' kindness and wanted to help. "She's in her room, in the cellar." "Thank you, Paige. I'll look for her from here." Ellis went to the two doors Paige came in, opened them, and walked inside. "Let's keep moving." Ledinia walked to the curtains and pushed them open. She stepped in first, and Paige did the same. The stairs would creek every time Paige stepped on one. The first door they past by read: MASSADOR. Paige guessed it was that weird servant's room. The kept walking. The second door read: ORESTRA'S ROOM. Orestra's door had a spider on it and the sign was unwelcoming. They climbed more flights of stairs. The next door said LEDINIA'S CHAMBER. The door was open and Ledinia and Paige went inside. The room was small. Pictures from magazines hung in all one jumble and darts were by a table. The magazine pictures had holes and rips. Ledinia had a coffin standing by a corner. Then by the door wall was a bed that was never slept in. There were no windows. A rug in the shape of a black circle lay in the middle of the room. By the side wall was a huge chest. Spider webs hung everywhere. Paige felt creeped out. "This is my room. That's your bed over there." Ledinia pointed to the bed by the door. "Where will you sleep?" Paige asked, but she already new the answer. "I will sleep in my coffin of course." Ledinia said. Paige felt a chill run down her spine. "Let's walk more up. Then we can have dinner and rest." Paige followed Ledinia out of the room back to the stair well. Paige walked up more then they read a sign on a door that said: RESTING IN PEACE, DO NOT DISTURB. It was Mr. and Mrs. Dunkins room Paige thought. The walked up more then they reached they top ceiling. Ledinia pushed one of the rockes that were on the cieling. A ladder came down revealing a work area, also known as the attic. This was the mysterious place everyone talked about, Paige thought. Mrs. McAdams, her fifth grade teacher, said, "The Dunkins' attic is haunted! That is all there is to say." Paige had asked her teacher about the Dunkins' attic because she new a lot about people and places in Grieve Avenue. "Come inside, Paige," Ledinia said. Paige walked up the ladder, clutching it carefully. So this was the attic, the spooky attic Mrs. McAdams was frightened about. It wasn't so frightning after all. Then, a cold, eerie wind swept through the room. Paige turned to see a ghostly, black figure standing in front of her. A wispy figure stepped in front. The voice wwas low and harsh. "Paige Cornelia Red, we have waited for you."

Halloween -- 11-02-09

andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp; Halloween was only 2 days ago. On Friday, the day before Halloween, we had the fall Carnival at our school. It was so much fun! We played games, and won prizes and candy. Some boys got their nails painted. I had a really good time. After school, KV, BK, JD, and I all went to DH's house to trick or treat. First we went to Michael's to get trick or treat bags and paint to decorate it. We all ran around like crazy! We got stopped by one of the workers there, though.andnbsp; Then DH'S mom drove us to her home. Once we got there we started to decorate our bags with paint. It was fun because some of us wrote funny stuff on their bags like andquot;Give me my candy, andquot; or andquot;Candy is the most important part of Halloween, andquot; and other stuff like that. Then we ate lunch. We had octopus hot dogs, macaroni and cheese, and chicken nuggets. We were drinking chocolate milk, and KV found a gummy worm in her milk! It turns out that DH'S mom forgot to take the worms out of the cups, but we ate the gummy worms anyway. Then we played on the WII and went outside. We played volleyball first then we drew lots of stuff on the driveway. We also wrote Halloween stuff on the driveway too in bubble letters. After that we just played volleyball again.andnbsp; When we went back inside, we ate dinner which was pizza. After we ate, we started to dress up in our costumes. KV was Dorathy from the Wizard of Oz, BK was a witch, DH was Little Chicken, JD wore a silver mask and a sweat shirt and jeans.andnbsp; I dressed up as a student from Hogwarts.andnbsp; Then, in our costumes, we played vollyeball while waiting for DH'S baby cousin. When DH's cousin came, she ate and dressed up as a doctor and finally we went trick or treating. We saw this man who dressed up in a leaf costume, this girl with dark make-up and dress, this witch who'sandnbsp; dress lit up, and a whole bunch of others! By an our, we had a whole bag full of candy. Luckily we made 2 trick or treat bags so we could go back to the house, grab the other bag, and go on another run for another hour, which we did.andnbsp; By the end of the night, we had two giant bag fulls of candy. We watched The Ringer before my mom picked me and JD up. It was such a fun day!

The House on the Corner:Chapter One -- 10-09-09

andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp; Paige Red loved mysteries. She would always try to find a mystery to solve. But there was always none. In Greive Avenue, everybody always stayed locked-up in their own houses. Nobody went went outside after 7:15. Mothers would rush their children inside, dogs would be dragged in the houses, and people would drive faster just to get home. Paige noticed that where she lived, life was starnge. Espescially when the Dunkins moved in. The Dunkins where strange, their house, Dunkin Manor was strange. Mrs. Dunkin stayed inside all the time. Mr. Dunkin would always work in his office in the attic which light never turns off. They had one daughter, Ledinia. Ledinia had pale black hair, always wore a plain black dress, and only came outside after lunch. Paige wanted to sovle the mystery of the Dunkin Manor. They lived in the creepy house on the corner that people would never look twice at. Paige decided she would go there and investigate. She grabbed her coat, and looked at the time. 5:22 the clock read. Paige had enough time to go and look at the house, then come back. Paige dashed out the door, and hoppped on her bike. It was a windy fall day, so Paige pedaled faster. When Paige pulled up at the Dunkins' house, she saw Ledinia playing hopscotch in the courtyard. andquot;Hi!andquot; Paige called out. If she was going to find out about the house, she had to get friendly with Ledinia. andquot;Hello.andquot; Ledinia's voice was gloomy and dull. Paige decided this was going to be a tough job. andquot; So, can I play?andquot; Paige asked. Ledinia hesitated before replying. andquot;I guess you could.andquot; Paige picked up a rock and started to play.andnbsp; 'andquot;Ledinia!andquot; a sharp, swift voice rang out in the courtyard. Paige turned. A shadowy lady with black hair in a tight bun, and a gray dress stood by the steps. Ledinia ran toward her. Paige strained her ears to hear over the loud blowing winds. Ledinia came back minuets later. andquot;Would you like to stay for dinner?andquot; Ledinia sounded strangely friendly. Paige nodded in surprise. Paige started to walk back inside with Ledinia walking slightly faster.andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp; Once Paige caught up with Ledinia, they were already at the house. The Dunkins' house was large, dark, and strange. The doors in the courtyard were huge and had a bronze knocker in the shape of a horn. Paige stared at for a while before going inside with Ledinia.andnbsp; Inside, the house was dim litted and only a few candles lit up the long corridors that stretched a full length of the house. Ledinia led the way walking down the corridor only to stop at the first door on the left. The room was dim and a long wooden table with chairs stood there, and at the far end was all blackness.andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp; andquot;Massador!andquot; Ledinia called out to the dark.andnbsp; A man with a hunched back and a long black cloak came dragging his left foot as he walked. He held a candle in his right hand and a butcher knife in the other hand.andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp; andquot;Yes, Misstress Ledinia?andquot; Massador's voice was cold and icy. It shot down Paige's spine like a cold bullet.andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp; andquot;Massador, make sure our guest has a seat in our dinner table toinght.andquot; Ledinia said.andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp; Massador's black stone gaze fell on Paige which burned through her skin like fire. andquot;Of course, Misstress, of course.andquot; Massador turned around and disappeared in the darkness.andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp; Paige tuned to Ledinia. andquot; Can I call my mom? It's late and I should tell her I'm having dinner here.andquot; Paige asked. Her mom was probbaly worried sick. It was 7:00 and was getting dark outside.andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp; andquot;Alright, follow me.andquot; Ledinia swept out of the room and back into the dim lit corridor. The past several rooms before stopping at a small room.andnbsp; Ledinia walked inside and Paige followed cautiosly. The room was lit by a single candle which was placed on the coffee table that stood in the center of the room. The furniture surrounding it was covered with dust, cobwebs, and plastic indicating Paige that it hasn't been used in a while.andnbsp; Ledinia poited at a small black telephone on one of the side tables. Then she went out in the corridor. Paige quickly dialed her phone number. Her mom picked up. The conversation was short and quick. Paige was staying at Dunkin Manor for the night.

Playingandnbsp; the piano is hard work! Some people think all you do is press a bunch of keys, but you don't. You have to make sure your hands are in the correct position, then you have to read notes. Reading notes comes easy to some people, but I have a bit of trouble. Most of the time, instead of reading the notes, I just memorize the sound and keys and just play. I also love writing my own music. I usually fool around with the keys and a melody comes. I also love playing classical music, jazz, and other fun stuff. If I love the piece, I play it and practice it a lot, but ifandnbsp; I dislike it, I' ll won't work as hard as I should. Pieces I love to play are: Linus and Lucy(sort-of like Charlie Brown theme song), Fur Elise, Silent Night, and In the Mood( a swing kind of piece), and a couple of others I forgot the name of.

How do people see in this dark worldandnbsp;we live in? Do they light a candle to lead a wayandnbsp;? Do they depend on others for guidence? Dark fog surrounds us as we trudge openly in the world . No lightandnbsp;, no candle, no guidence as we walk. Many haveandnbsp;walked this path before us, some stumble, some fall, some get lost.andnbsp;Sometimesandnbsp;we rest and never continue on, other times we walk until our last breath. It is always up to us to carry on. Not up to others butandnbsp;for you and onlyandnbsp;you. So carry on, and on and on. Will youandnbsp;see on your own? Willandnbsp;youandnbsp;walk on in the dark fog? Will you drop your sword and perishandnbsp;when enimies come? Of course not, because you have a guiding light and courage inandnbsp;theandnbsp;Dark Fog.andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp; -KBandnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;
