Anthropomorphism -- 06-11-12

Anthropomorphism means Attribution of human motivation, characteristics, or behavior to inanimate objects, animals, or natural phenomena.
Cockroaches results -- 06-11-12

For our experiment we wanted to know if the cockroach prefer dry or moiste soil. I predicted that the cockroach would choose dry soil because in Washington there's no cockroaches because the climate is wet. We put dry and moist soil on the opposite side and see where the cockroach would go. The cockroach went to the dry soil 4/5 time and went to the moist soil 1/5 times. Our result was uncertain whether the cockroach prefer dry or moist soil because it was quite difficult to make the cockroach decide where to go. The cockroach just seems like they want to run and get away from human. However, when we did are experiment the cockroach went to the dry soil more than the moist soil. Though our conclusion is uncertain.

I learned that The madagascar cockroaches can live up to 5 years. They are known as hissing cockroaches because They are capable of breathing through their pores. There hiss comes in 3 forms. They have the disturbance hiss, the female-attracting hiss and the fighting hiss. Also, the hissing cockroaches are wingless. They can grow up to 5-7.5 inches long and they are ugly.

Odyssey -- 05-29-12

What I like about odyssey was the salt creek. It was super fun to explore the sea life and got to walk around to find some little crabs. It was exciting how I got to touch some of the animals and plants as well. I love the 9 miles hike and I'm glad I did it, but the hike on the beach was extremely hard and difficult. That was the hardest part of hiking for me. I also love the hot springs and swimming. It was super relaxing and we got to rest for little bit with our friends. What I don't like about odyssey was the workbook that we had to fill out. I feel like I can truly have fun and relax without having to worry about filling out my workbook everyday. I couldn't have fun unless my workbook was completely finished for the day! I also wish we have more food!!!!!! And I think we should have more time to hang around the camp more often. We barely have time to hang out or walk around or play games! I suggest that we should have a day to hang out and do whatever we want instead of getting up early and go hiking every single day.

Snail conclusion -- 05-11-12

Our hypothesis was that the snail is going to choose soil over grass because they like wet climate which snails usually come out when it is raining. Soil hold water better than grass!
For our experiment conclusion the snails ended up choosing the grass 2 out of 5 times and went to the soil 3 out of 5 times. So the snail prefer soil more than grass. We don't really know the real reason why snail would choose soil over grass because snail need food to survive. We think that maybe snail would feel like it's natural habitat because when they travel towards food they would be traveling on soil rather than grass. Our inaccuracy in this experiment is that we used different snails. The first day of our experiment we used a different snail which I chose to go towards the grass 2 times and then the next day we took another snail and it went toward the soil 3 times. So my thought is that maybe it really depends on the snails on whether or not they would prefer soil or grass.

Plant Experiment -- 04-18-12

In my plant researched and experiment. Marissa and I did our experiment project on miracle grow and regular soil. We planted flowers in each type of soil. As a result, the regular soil made the plants grow better, faster and healthier. The miracle grow took 5-6 days after the flowers had sprouted in regular soil. we think that the reason why our flowers grew better in the regular soil due to the soil that we got from the high shcool green house. We dont know what nutrients and what kind of soil it is. The greenhouse soil are for plants to grow healthy. So the soil from the greenhouse have a huge role to play in our experiment. We did some researched on our plants and flowe structures that we showed in our presentation. I learned that the reason why our flowers grew towards the light due to photosytheisis. Plant needs as much photosythesis as much as possible so therfore, they grow towards the sunlight. i learned about how seeds are a living organism. They have the embryo to create plants in the future and seeds have some stred energy in themself ready to be planted and sprout. We also researched about flowers structures such as, petal, ovule, ovary, stigma, carpel, etc.

Sexual reproduction are going to have diverse characteristic because the parents have 2 different genes. The 2 different genes will mix together causing the baby to have both of the mom and dad genetics. The baby can have the moms eyes or the dads face. Thats why we all look different frommeverybody. Through asexual reproduction there is only 1 gene to choos from. If we seer reproducted asexually we all would look the same!

Bacteria in our school! -- 02-06-12

My questions are "what color is the bacterias?" and "what size are the batteries" and "what type of a bateria are they?" for my observation I got no bateria growing in my petri dish except for the bathroom faucet. The size of the bacteria is very very tiny but I can't tell the exact size of the bateria. The color of the bateria is a yellow color mix with white. I could not identify what type ofthe bacteria it was but that is what I got from my data. What happened was that in the bathroom faucet the agar broke when we dipped in the Q-tip. My prediction was that I thought the most bateria would be the mouth but the bateria that we got was for the bathroom faucet and I thought that the towel Presser would get the least batercia but we didn't grow any bacteria for the towel pressure, mouth, and the toilette flusher. I thought that it was pretty strange how we barely got any bacteria to grow at all! My questions is why didn't we grow any bacteria in the mouth, toilette flusher or the towel Presser? I thought bacterias are suppose to exist everywhere...

Mitosis -- 01-25-12

1. The growing part of the mitosis is the longest period of all. During the cell cycle the DNA duplicates and divided, and the proteins are being produced. The cells will also be growing in size. This is the first step which is called the interphase.

2. During the interphase the cells are starting to divide which then splits into to 2 sister cells during this stage the proteins are being made.

3. To produce the 2 sister cells the DNA instructions in the cell MUST be duplicated. This situation occured in the synthesis phrase. The chromosome splits into two identical chromosomes. The cells mother give the daughter cells all they need to survive.

The cells are able to split into 2 cells and are the same exact cells due to the chromosome makes the EXACT duplicates of themself.

Interphase: the longest and the busiest period of the stage. The DNA duplicates and the cells are dividing.

Prophase: In this stage the nucleolus starts to fades. The nucleolus then strats to meet together into chromosomes.

Prometaphase: This stage is where the nucleolus envelopes break down. This stage is where the proteins are being mixed together and where the 2 sister cells are at.

Metaphase: Tension applied by the spindle fibers aligns all chromosomes in one plane at the center of the cell.

Anaphase: The spindles fibers are shorten and the 2 daughter cells are being torn apart. they then later travel towards the cell pole.

Telophase: The daughter cells arrive at the cell pole and the spindle fibers that pulled the sister cells apart dissappeared.

Cytokinesis: The spindle fibers begin to break down. Contactile ring cleaves the cell into 2 daughter cells. Then the new cytoskeleton are being reorgonize bu the microtubules and then they are later return to the interphase stage of the the Cell Cycle.

The amoeba and the paramecia is a single cell organism. The elodea plant cell is a multicellular cell. You can tell if a cell is a single cell by for example the paramecia is single because it only have 1 cell. It does not connect with other cells to be able to live on it's own. Same with the amoeba, it's a single cell because it does not connect to other amoeba to be able to live. The elodea plant cell is a multicellular cell because it is connected to another elodea cells and form a rectangular shape. They need each other to be able to survive. both single cell and multicellular cell are both organisms because it's a living thing.

Me and my team just learned how to use a microscope. To be able to see the experiments correctly you have to move the object the opposite way. For example, if you want the object to move up you move it down. The lens can be magnifies up to 40x. And there are two knobs that you can turn to adjust the bigger one on the top is for when you move stage up and down and to adjust the object so you can see it better. The second bottom one that have a smaller knob is called the field. You use it for the higher magnify lens like the 40x. So you can see the experiment closer and better.
The compound microscope is easier because it is not the opposite. I like that one better because it doesn't make me dizzy like the other one. However, the zooms and stuff is bad and you need the flashlight for help.

Experiment(: -- 11-08-11

Question:
Does different liquids make a different on the growth of the orbies?

Hypothesis:
I think that the orbies are going to be similar because orbies absorbs liquids. I think that it really doesnt matter what liquid it is as long as it's still liquid.

Conclusion:
Different liquids allows the orbies to grow. It controls the growth, sizes, colors, and the surface type of the

My team had 5 different types of liquids. The first vile is milk, second is the orange mango carrot juice, third vile is the white cherry powerade, forth vile is the Lipton tea, and the fifth vile is the cherry lemonade. We put 5 orbies in each viles and 30ml of water in the viles. We did our experiment for 15 minutes, 24 hours and 48 hours.

Before 15 min. 24 hours. 48 hours.
Milk. 127.7px. 210.3px. 397.5px. 394.3px
Juice. 127.7px. 266.7px. 384.2px. 389.9px
CP. 127.7px. 283.9px. 418.3px. 432.4px
Tea. 127.7px. 283.9px. 493.9px. 516.8px
CL. 127.7px. 213. 9px. 256.4px. 225.9px
(CP= Cheery Powerade and CL= Cherry Lemonade)

What happened:

For the milk the orbies growth was very little and the orbies stick to the bottom of the vile. The smell of the vile was disgusting. The milk ended up rotten and chunky. The color of the orbies are red.

For the juice the smell was as bad as the milk but still smelled rotten the orbies are clear looking and the orbies color blends in with the color of the juice.

For the cherry powerade the orbies color is clear with a slight pink color all over it. The size of the orbies are decent and there is no bad smell in this vile.

For the tea the orbies are the biggest size in this liquid. The orbies color is brown the color as the tea. There is no bad smell in this vile. After 24 hours of experiment the orbies size was oval but then changed into a circle after 48 hours.

For the last vile the cherry lemonade the orbies are the smallest in this vile. The color is red same as the color of the liquid. For the first 15 min there appeared to be a bubble inside the orbies but then they later disappeared.

Questions:
How does the orbies absorbs the color of the liquids?
Why did the sizes of the orbies different from each other?
How does the liquids effact the surface area of the orbies?
Why did the bubbles inside the orbies in vile 5 disappeared?

Environment(: -- 10-21-11

Our class did an experiment on 5 different things which are red sad, yeast, orbies, radish seeds, and shrimp brine. We used these organisms in 3 different environments which are H2O, sugar water and salt water. Environment effect organism because organisms need certain environment to be able to survive. For example, the seeds didn't grew in the salt water because that is not it's environment. The seeds need fresh water like the regular H2O and the sugar water. The salt water didnt had what the seeds need to be alive. So the seeds failed to sprout. Some of our living organisms appeared non living because it didnt showed any sign of living such as breathing, movements, eating, etc. Like the seed, brine shrimp and yeast. They just look like sand and tiny rocks. They need time to grow in the environment.Organisms need to to be expose to certain things to know that it is a living thing. Like seeds need fresh water to be able to sprout. The brine shrimp appeared non living in the sugar water because it was not completely hatched.

What Is Living? -- 10-07-11

Living things have to grow. For example, all animals grow. All living things have to consume some type of food. Also, living things have to go through some type of a live cycle. That means they will have to die somehow. All living things have to be born, then living and lastly, they die. Living things have to breath. Some living things may not breath the same air that we do, but they still breath. For example trees breath in carbon dioxide. Living things have movements. All living things eat and they have to take it out of their body/system somehow. That means all living things have to "poop".

Global Warming -- 09-29-11

Yes, I think that we can fix glabal warming. Yes, I think that we should fix global warming because I think that we are not going to be able to survive the flood. The water is going to rise which cause the water to be less salty which affect the animals that live in the water. It affect our climate and kills the animals that live on land. It also kill the polar bears and other animals that live in the north and south pole and there will be less land on earth. Global warming will affect everying on earth. In the future it will be harder for human to travel and survive due to the water rising. It will be harder for us to plant plants because there will be less land and we need vegetables to survive. Without plants everything will die.

andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp; Water pollution is a lake or a river that has garbage dumps, toxic waste and chemicals. The lake or river that has water pollution could kill many animals that are living in the water! Water pollution is also contaminates from automobiles like carries oil, rubber or heavy metals that come from run off streets. Consequences of pollution are loss of water plants and serious decline in wildlife interest.andnbsp; Also people canandrsquo;t use water to drink, cook or do other stuff.

andnbsp;andnbsp;

andnbsp;andnbsp; Nitrate is natural compound present in all ecosystems. It is one of the chemicals essential to plants and animals. It is also a component of chemical and manure based fertilizer. Nitrate can get into our water supplies when there are rainstorms. It can be washed into near by streams, ponds and through tile drainage systems. The effect on high level nitrate on people is excessive. Nitrate can result in restriction of oxygen transport in the blood stream. Alsoandnbsp; when there is lots of nitrates in the water and you drink to much, like if you are a babyandnbsp; you can get methemoglobinemia which is the blue baby syndromes.

andnbsp;andnbsp; The considered amount of nitrate in your drinking water is 10 mg/L thatandrsquo;s the maximum of nitrates in your water. Also people should not be drinking that water with nitrates in it, and should not be using that water to cook. Nitrate concentration in shallow ground water were higher in agricultural areas than in urban, forest, or rangeland areas.

These areas need to control theandnbsp; nitrates in their water.

andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp; A point source of pollution is a obvious pollution, like a pipe gushing sudsy water into the river. A non- point source is a widely spread source of pollution that can't be tied to a speific point of origin. andnbsp;andnbsp;

andnbsp;andnbsp; andnbsp; andnbsp; What can be done to improve the quality of water after it has become polluted?

andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp; People can help improve the quality of water after it has become polluted by properly recycling or depositing of pollutants before they contaminate soil, water, or air. We could also show each other where the waste goes. We could probably dispose of garbage into the garbage cans and dispose the recyclable stuff into the recycling bin. We could also help by not leaving our garbage behind and we could prevent water pollution by reducing amount of fertilizer lawns. We can reducing the potential for nitrate entering into local watercourses after rainstorms.

Here's what I learned about volcanoes. First, the Composite volcano. These types of volcanoes are usually tens of miles andnbsp;and ten thousand or more feet in height!

The Cinder cones are small volcanoes, usually about a mile across and up to about a thousand feet high. These kind of volcanoes usually have a small crater on top. O.K. Enough about volcanoes. Here's what I learned about lavas. There are four types of lavas. There are Low water/ Low silica, Low water/ High silica, High water/ Low silica and High water/ High silica. Did you know that some lavas are very runny?!? At first I thought that it would be runny like water, but it's not, it's like hot wax! You learn something new everyday.
