We recently gathered data of roadkill. Some of the data is from a long time ago, and some is from this year. Roadkill is an interesting subject to study. It is really neat though to learn about all of the roadkill and graph it out.

Earth Day 09 

      As you may know, April 22 was earth day. Earth day is a great oppertunity to get involved with many things to help the earth. I got the oppertunity to speak on the 24 hour earthcast. The earthcast was a great way to alert people about whats happening on earth and how to help. All of our classes made powerpoint presentations and some people made quizes to test what people know. It was a very fun day and I cannot wait until next year!

Seedfolks

We recently read a book called Seedfolks by Paul Fleischman. It took place in the midst of three buildings in Cleveland, Ohio. In the middle of the buildings, there is lots of trash. But in the course of a year, the junk yard turns into a beautiful garden. But, it did not just turn into a garden, it turned into a get-together with many different types of people. Reading Seedfolks really inspired me along with others to plant a garden and thanks to the book and a lot of hard workers, Rye Jr. High now has a garden in the back lawn.

            Kim. A young girl who was inspired by her father to plant a garden. Kim knew exactly where she wanted to plant her seeds. In the middle of three apartment buildings in the inner city of Cleveland, Ohio. Kim had a special connection with planting things. Before he passed away, her father was a farmer. So, Kim decided to follow in his footsteps and plant some sweet old lima beans. So, Kim picked a spot behind an old refrigerator and took the seeds one by one from the bag. Throughout the book, people followed after Kim and picked a spot and planted different fruits and vegetables.

            I had a lot of fun reading the book Seedfolks. It really made me appreciate that plants are available to us and that we can grow them. I hope this book will be read by many people and that they would be as inspired as I am.

     As you know, Acid rain is very destructive. For example, has the paint on your car ever bubbled? Well, this is caused by acid rain. Also, have you ever left something medal outside of your house for a long period of time? Well, you may notice that it it is eaten away. This is also caused by acid rain. As you can see, acid rain is very destructive. So the next time you leave your car out at night, maybe think about pulling it in the garage!

I chose to draw stripes on my flag because  Antarctica is not owned by any specific country so many colors are represented. Also, as you may have noticed, each line is outlined in green. I did this because Antarctica is trying to “go green” by using the 3 r’s: reduce, reuse, and recycle.

Steaming Stocks

For the past 14 weeks in math class, we have been buying and learning about different stocks. Out of all the great stocks, I invested in ATandT, Starbucks coffee, and JetBlue airways. The reason I picked ATandT is because I think that something so little as a phone company of would not do so well in these economic times. I chose Starbucks coffee because I believed it would do better. The reason I think it would do better because coffee is very affordable. JetBlue airways on the other hand, I thought would struggle. I thought it would struggle because in these times, who going to hop on an airplane?

                After the 14 weeks of research, I most definitely would have changed a couple of things. First of all, I was right about ATandT, it did not make any money in fact, and it lost money! So, I think I would have bought a new stock. Starbucks also did not do so well. I thought since coffee is such an affordable thing, it would not have made a dramatic effect. But people are just not willing to pay for such a little thing like that. I think I should have just bought a completely new stock.  JetBlue, like the other two did not do so well either. I was right; I guess people are not willing to hop on an airplane in these tough times. Since none of my stocks did so well, I think if I ever did a stock project again, I would not pick any of these three.

                If I were to give advice to other people interested in investing in the stock market, I would tell them firstly to watch what they invest in. You need to watch what you invest in.  If you buy a stock with not a lot of money, chances are it’s going to go down or already is going down. Another piece of advice I would give to future investors would be to keep track of your stocks. This would definitely help to see if your stocks went up or down and by how much. My last piece of advice would be to wait to sell your stocks until they are at a higher price than you bought them at even if you have to wait awhile.  This would help because you would make more money.
