Roadkill Analysis - Size of Animal -- 05-28-09

This road kill project I decided to choose do the size of the animal. During the research I chose to do those thirty inches as my benchmark. This meant that if an animal was below the benchmark I would consider that as a small animal and if it were over the thirty inch benchmark it would be considered large and mark it as large.

During the research it was very much one sided. I realized that most animals that were killed large were usually way over thirty inches except for the beaver. As I said earlier the information was one sided so that most all the large animals were about five in total. Everything else was mostly squirrels and uncommon birds.

There were many things that could of effected the data. It may be where we live to depend on the size of the animals killed. You would have to make the benchmark smaller to have a serious set of data to compare. My data was off track.

Through this whole project I wasn’t aware how many small animals were involved in the road kill. I started to notice doing this variable wasn’t very good. It was mostly putting tallies for the small animals. I wish I redone the information and put the thirty inches down to maybe twenty or twenty five inches.

Size of Roadkill Graph -- 05-26-09

I learned that in this graph almost everything killed was a animal under 30 inches. It was cool to learn all the new animals sizes and also i learned about 5 different animals that lived around our area. I also learned how big a raccoon was, also a squirel can grow to be over 20 inches long!

Seed Folks -- 04-23-09

Seed Folks

By Paul Fleischman

The book Seed Folks involves many different kinds of plants. It involves a community garden in Cleveland, Ohio. The garden was not always a garden, it used to a garbage dump before a young girl began to secretly plant peas. One day a girl caught a glimpse of her planting the peas in the ground. As she was watching through the window she was very curious and ran down there to make sure she wasn’t planting anything illegal. As she went down she dug up the ground and before she knew it she ruined was the little girl had made. So trying to pull herself together she rushed to put the plant back together with no luck. Seed Folks is all about bringing a broken down community into a working together community.

One of my seed packets is for a Seed Folk named Sam. Sam is a very involved and friendly type of person. He is always willing to put himself in front to help out whomever even if it is a complete stranger. He decided to make pumpkins because he would make good money because of carving for Halloween. I think I made a nice choice for this seed packet.

For my last seed packet I did my little dog Franklin. I chose to make him a Venus fly trap because he likes to nip people who are playing with him. He is a dog who loves to be played around with and be around with. He isn’t a dog who runs away he is always staying by your side if you make his day. This is the reason why I chose to do Frank.

Stock Market Final Report -- 03-03-09

This year in math class we were given 10,000 $ fake money to invest in three stocks. My first choice to invest in was McDonalds. I chose this because McDonalds sponsors many events and I thought ahead to see what events were coming up. McDonalds would also do well in selling fast food because it is a busy time in the country. McDonalds also has a lot of commercials and I thought the commercials would get more business. My second choice for a stock was Nike. I chose Nike because I thought of basketball season coming up and I was thinking that it would be the most popular shoe to buy in the world. Nike was also popular for soccer season and indoor soccer was starting. My last stock to invest in was Callaway because I thought of the winter coming up and the golf equipment cost less because it was winter.

Now that this project is finished I realized the mistakes I did through the process this investment. In my mistakes I would change Nike’s investments to change it all. Nike dropped a lot of money in the time of the project. I would want to invest less in this stock and not sell it all. In Callaway I would of invested less. The reason I think this is because the golf season hasn’t even started and I invested a lot in it. If I had the chance I would have sold it and got another stock. Now my last stock was McDonalds. McDonalds did decent in time of this project. I would have invested a bit more stocks into it.

Some advice I think of when investing in stocks in to look ahead of time why it will be a good stock. Maybe that company is big with sponsors with big sporting events. Also another major part is the government and economy. If the economy is doing really bad don’t invest in that stock. Also another good time to invest is when the market doesn’t have that much trouble. Another good piece of good advice is not to invest to low. Invest to low can be a waste of your money.

Ms. Ellwood is having a lifetime experience being in Antarctica. She has seen many things from penguins to seals. Ms. Ellwood was invited down to Antarctica by a man named Peter Doran. Ms. Ellwood is diver down in Antarctica. SHe collects various samples down in the water. She didn’t see many penguins on her previous trips but this trip she got to see many of them and got clips. Ms. Ellwood is going to be staying in Antarctica for about 2-3 months and some days she has to stay out in a tent. Before she gets to Antarctica she has to fly Christchurch, New Zealand. There she puts on her Extreme Cold Weather Gear and flies down to Antarctica. Ms. Ellwood is diving, she also had her class last year make a robot which will go down into the Antarctica water. Hopefully it will work.
