My LA class read the book “Seedfolks” by Paul Fleischman. It toke place in Cleveland, Ohio. The book was about a community garden and how it brought a scattered community back together. After we read the book we had to do a project on the book. We had to make a seed packet of a character of the book and another one of someone in our personal lives. We had to include a picture of a plant that describes them and a quote at the bottom. It also had to have a creative title and information about how to grow the plant on the back. I chose Curtis as my character from the book because he was strong and he grew tomatoes to try to win back his old girlfriend. My personal choice was my pet cat, Kevin. He is a black and white cat that’s 6 years old.

Acid Rain -- 04-06-09

Acid rain has two pollutants, NOx SO2. NOx travels in the air anywhere between 50 to 300 miles while NOx travels about 500 to 1500. They come out of smoke stacks and cars and also heating. During the time that their moving they become acids. NOx becomes nitric acid and SO2 becomes sulfur acid. The next time it rains, acid rain will fall from the sky. The amount of acid that’s in the rain depends on the amount of fossil fuels in the air.

There are many solutions to Acid Rain. You could stop using your car and bike a lot more. Use power strips or unplug all your electronics after using them. You could also use wind power and sun light to power your house.

I invested in 3 stock companies over the last 14 weeks. My first stock was Pain Therapeutics; I picked it because it was on the bull market and was rising on a steady pace. My second stock was Activision Inc. I picked it because it was on the bull market also and it was rising quickly and my last stock was Las Vegas sands. I picked that because my friend told me it was going up at about one dollar a day for about 2 weeks so it looked like a good choice.

If I could go back and change, delete, or add a stock I would defiantly go back and change them all. I would defiantly change Pain Therapeutics because I lost about two thousand dollars on that. Activision didn’t lose that much I only lost about five hundred on that and I would also change my last stock, Las Vegas Sands I would change that also because I lost about one thousand dollars.

I have a few strategies if you are looking to invest in a good stock. If you have no idea u could look in the bull market. The bull market has potential or uprising stocks. Another strategy u could use is search around for a good stock that has been rising for a while. If you cant find anything after try those two strategies then you could always ask a friend who is doing well in the stock market

This week in school Joe Flood came in and talked to the 7th graders. He talked to us about what drugs and alcohol do to your life. He told us what marijuana does to our body. It goes to were our body has the most fatty tissue which is our sex organs and brain and it stays there for 4-6 weeks. It also damages them. For the sex organ for boys it takes away their testosterones which makes you male. For girls it sticks to the fatty tissue around the egg and if you smoke too much it will damage the egg. Also he told us about the 6 lights in the brain. The first one was thinking. The second was motor controls. The first two lights go out when you sleep. The third one was safety nerd which tells the body if there’s something wrong. The fourth one is pass out. The fifth one is O.D or overdose of drugs, and the last one is dead. Too much Alcohol can cause these lights to go off. Once all these lights go out your dead.

Joe Flood taught us a lot about drugs and alcohol. He taught me that if I do drugs or take alcohol before my liver is fully developed it can cost me. I will defiantly not drink alcohol before 22 or ever do drugs.

Antarctica-Penguins

Ms. Ellwood went to see penguins as a special treat. Jean Pennycook and Dr. David Ainley toke Ms. Ellwood to Cape Royds to see the penguins so Jean Pennycook and Dr. David Ainley could study and observe them. But before she went there she toke a tour of were Robert Scott and Earnest Shackleton on their first attempt to reach the South Pole. She saw some of the stuff they left behind, like their dog kennel, hut and stove they had. After Ms. Ellwood went to their hut her, Jean, and Dr. David continued on towards the Adelie penguin colony in Cape Royds. She saw hundreds of penguins building their nest! There were penguins everywhere she could also see little black dots in the distant. (Which were penguins!) Ms. Ellwood saw them stealing each others rocks and putting them in their own nest. Penguins are very funny animals!

After Jean Pennycook, Dr. David Ainley, and Ms. Ellwood studied the penguins they went to the Ice Caves. The Ice Caves are a sort of a cave that is entirely made up of ice and snow! Unlike the caves anywhere else which are rock and dirt. They had to slide down to get inside the cave. The sunlight got thru the ice so it was very beautiful and sparkling. The ice in the cave had a bluish color to it. It wasn’t dark because of the light shining through the ice.
My question for Ms. Ellwood is what was it like at the penguin colony? Was it noisy? Did any come up and greet you?

Mercury is a weird planet. One half of the year is very hot its reaches about 800 degrees and the other half of the year it’s very cold it reaches -350. You may think it’s very hot because it’s so close to the sun but its rotation is 59 days and ours on Earth is 24 hours. Mercury also has a small revolution its 88 days and ours is 365 days.
Venus is the hottest planet in our solar system. Its average high temperature is 891 degrees and its low is 837 degrees! It’s so hot because its atmosphere is mostly made up on toxic gasses such as Carbon dioxide, acid rain and ammonia. We have not gotten a picture of Venus’s land we cannot get a space craft through its atmosphere.
