<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"">The video "How the Stock Market Works" is an informative cartoon about the stock market. It shows a small company that cannot make enough products to sell. What the company does is that it sells stock to an investor who then pays him the money he needs to make the products for his company. It shows how the company sells the stock and how other people go about buying shares in it. The company makes more money from selling the stock and is able to make a larger plant and produce more products.

Saint Report -- 12-13-12

Today I am going to tell you about my dear friend and inspiration Padre Pio. My name is Francis Martellio and this is my story of Padre Pio. At the time his name was Francesco Forgione we first met back in our home village in Pietrelcina, a farming town in the southern Italian region of Campania. I was his closest friend growing up. We would always play games with each other and walk down by the stream by the village. Skipping rocks and talking about what we did that day was one of our favorite things to do. We were both very religious and both hoped that we would go to school to become priests someday if our families could earn enough money. As we got older, however, I noticed something different about him. He was more serious about being more religious and was praying more. He did something he called spiritual suffering by doing things like sleeping on the floor. I asked him why he was doing it and he said it was his way of becoming closer to God.

By January 6, 1903, at the ages of fifteen our families had raised enough money to send us to school. Francesco and I entered the novitiate of the Capuchin Friars at Morcone. I can remember how excited he was to finally be able to go to school to become a priest. He was also sad however, that he had to leave his family. I remember how thankful he was for his father going overseas to America to get a job to pay for his schooling. On January 22, he took the Franciscan habit and the name of Fra (Friar) Pio, in honor of Pope St. Pius V, the patron saint of Pietrelcina. He took the simple vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. As years went by of schooling, Pio's spiritual suffering got more serious. Pio said that he believed the love of God is inseparable from suffering and that suffering all things for the sake of God is the way for the soul to reach God. He told me " I feel I am lost in a chaotic maze, plunged into total desolation, as if I were in the deepest pit of hell." During his period of spiritual suffering, his followers and I believed that Pio was attacked by the Devil, both physically and spiritually. We felt sorry for him and prayed that God would take care of him.

To commence our six-year study for priesthood and to grow in community life, we traveled to the friary of St. Francis of Assisi by oxcart. Three years later on January 27, 1907, Padre Pio made his solemn profession. In 1910, Brother Pio was ordained a priest by Archbishop Paolo Schinosi at the Cathedral of Benevento. Four days later, he offered his first Mass at the parish church of Our Lady of the Angels. I attended his first mass. I was so happy for him. Ever since he was an altar boy he wanted to be a priest. At the end of the mass he came up to me saying, " I now feel truly one with God." Years passed and in September of 1918 when something strange was happening. While hearing confessions, Padre Pio had his first occurrence of the stigmata: bodily marks, pain, and bleeding in locations corresponding to the crucifixion wounds of Jesus Christ. He told me and his followers and we did not know what to say. We thought he was being attacked by the devil again. After many priests had looked at the markings however, we realized that this wasn't work of the devil. I was with him when the doctor came to see him. I remember the doctor saying, " I have no explanation for this, this is truly a phenomenon." This phenomenon continued for fifty years, until the end of his life. Throughout the rest of Padre Pio's life I watched my friend grow more in his faith. Being a role model for others with his modesty and kindness. This made Padre Pio more modest. He would cover up his stigmata so no one would see it. Hr also helped other people to be modest and guided them to be more like God. I think this made Padre Pio be more spiritual. At the day of his funeral I said his mass. Though I was very old myself, I still had the strength to say the mass. I went home to the rectory sad that night, knowing that my friend was gone. I was also happy that his spiritual suffering was over and that he was in heaven.

For my confirmation name I chose Pio. The main reason I chose Padre Pio was for his modesty. He was very modest in terms of the way he dressed and the way he would act. Since he had the stigmata, he did not show it off or brag about it . Especially in today's world, I think it's good to keep striving to be modest and practice chastity. Padre Pio also helped other people to be modest by talking with them and telling them how to be modest. I think that in today's world that this is often forgotten about. I believe that we should all strive to do this and also help one another to be a more modest person. The message that I think Padre Pio gives us for the future is that we should not get caught up in daily life and not to forget about God. This is the reason I chose Padre Pio. In this image at the right is a picture of Father Pio de Pietrelcina.

Super Size Me -- 06-01-12

In Health class the past couple of weeks our class has been watching the documentary Super Size Me. We were shown this because it includes some of the topics and lessons we learned in health class. The doc umentary is about a man who eats Mcdonald's for breakfast, lunch, and diner for thirty days to study the affects that the food has on him. He had many physical checkups before, while, and after the thirty days. He also could only do minimum exercise during the thirty days.

Supersize Me was a documentary. This means that the movie was created to give facts about a certain piece of factual information and is showed and talked about it. In the beginning of the movie it talks about how the U.S.A. is the fattest country in terms of obeisity. talks about Morgan Spurlock and how he was going to the doctor before the experiment. He first starts eating Mcdonald's in New York City. During the video towards the end Morgan becomes very and the doctors are telling him to stop. At the end of the video Morgan gains a lot of weight and becomes very unhealthy. click here for more information

From this video there was a lot of information from the video that we learned in health class. A lot having to do with fat, nutrience, calories, and blood presure. Also Morgan had to manage his weight in the video. A person to manage their weight by getting enough nutrience from food and burn of the calories so they don't gain a lot weight and don't loose a lot of weight. I was impacted by the food. It made Mcdonald's seem more disgusting and unhealthy.

For the Europe project the country I had was Italy. The purpose of this project was so that we could learn a lot about a specific country in Europe. The process of the project took several weeks with us doing different sections of work broken up into parts. For my cover page I choose a picture of the Colloseum. I choose this picture because I think it is a good representation of Italy.

Millennium Development Goals -- 10-19-11

The Millennium Development goals were developed at the beginning of the millenium in the year 2000. These goals have been set by many countries coming together to achieve this goal. Some of these goals are conquering world hunger, gender equality, and combating diseases that are curable. visithttp://quietube.com/v.php/http://www.youtube.com/watcAh?v=v3p2VLTowA.

There are eight MDGs. They are: 1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger. 2. Achieve universal primary education. 3. Promote gender equality and empower women. 4. Reduce child mortality rates. 5. Improve maternal health. 6. Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases. 7. Ensure enviromental sustainability. 8. Develop a global partnership for development.

Since the year 2000 the MDGs have been underway. Fewer children under the age of five are dying. In 2009 the death rate fell to 8.1 million children under the age of five from 12.4 million in 1990. http://www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs290/en/

The Italian Dinner Roller Coaster -- 04-05-11

In this project we learned about rollercoaters and how they work. These are Newton's three laws of motion.

1. An object at rest will remain at rest unless acted on by an unbalanced force. An object in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. 2. Acceleration is produced when a force acts on a mass. The greater the mass greater the amount of force needed to accelerate an object. 3. For every action there is an equal opposite reaction. Our rollercoaster was made of steel. It was based on a pasta dinner. The tracks were made to look like noodles with res spots to look like tomato sauce. The loops were made to look like meatballs. The cars were designed to look like garlic bread. I was the design engineer Thomas was the physicst and Kirstin was the historian.

I think our roller coaster was a success because it was very unique. I think if it were real so many people would want to ride. We had to make changes like make bigger hills so it would stop at the end. Yo can go to http://teachertech.rice.edu to learn more.

This a picture of the cork screw coaster. It was taken on July 17, 2005. I got this image from fotopedia.com.
