America...Land of the Free...Home of the Brave -- 06-30-09

It was an Independence Day night of 1907, and I, Molly Belle, orphan of D.C., was sitting on the porch of the orphanage, gazing wondrously at the bright fire crackers that were being thrown into the bright night sky. Just then, a soft, solemn voice said, “What are you doing, dear child?” I looked up and saw an elderly man, whom was also quite cheerful looking. He had shining blue eyes and was filled with many wrinkles. I looked down, unhappily. “Oh, nothing I don’t have a family to have fun with.”
The old man’s smile got bigger. “Yes, but do you know what Independence Day is all about?” he asked. I lifted my head and answered, “Well, sir, isn’t it all about having fun with your family and watching firecrackers? Isn’t that why we celebrate it?” but the old man didn’t answer. He just sat there, smiling his usual smile. I was beginning to think he was quite odd. “No, my dear child,” he explained. “it isn’t even close to that meaning. Come. I’ll show you.” He offered me a wrinkled hand. I hesitated for a minute, and then, I grabbed it. His skin felt like the leathery skin of an elephant. He led me into a taxi and we stopped at the granite wall. “My dear child,” she spoke. “All these people died, for our freedom. That is a special sacrifice to make” I looked up at him. “sir, is that what independence day is all about?” I asked. He smiled again. “No, it is only the half of it. The other half awaits.” He led me back to the taxi, and we stopped at the Historic Flags Museum. We ventured inside, and finally the man spoke in a quavering voice, ”Ah, there she is,” I looked and saw the beautiful, the proud Old Glory. “Isn’t she a beauty?” the old man asked. He had large crystal tears falling from his shining blue eyes. “she was built when our war for freedom was on. The Britain tried their best to knock her down,” he took a break to blow his nose. “she stayed up for us all. For our freedom we live through today.” He looked at at me. Memories flowed through his eyes like a swirling lake of hope. “and that, my dear child, is what independence day is all about. For all the people who fought, and some died, for our freedom today. Pray and thank those who’s names are engraved on the wall, America’s heroes.” He sighed. “the people who gave us the name, ‘ the land of the free, the home of the brave.” He blew his nose again, sniffed, and left me stranded in the museum independence day night. And I understood. For the love of our country, people fought. I walked homw, ready to tell the other kids at the orphanage what I had just heard.
And that is the end of my tale. I am long gone and dead now, but as I grew up, I was very proud of my home. America: land of the free, home of the brave.

Exhibition has never been better. We finished filming our movie. We also finished our trifold board and we did our action by putting poasters up around school. Now, all we need to do is contact our experts and our exhibition project would be done. I am so happy! Our trifold board looks terrific too! I think my group will make a good grade!

exibition week two -- 03-20-09

In exibition this week, we worked as much as we could to get back up information on our questions we have already finished. Soon, we were ready to work on the props. I began working on writing the script for the movie, Madison and Korina began working on brochures, and Lillian and Johana are still getting background research. We still have not met with our mentor this week. We will soon, though. Senora Valladares has been busy, so Mrs. Wilson has been our back up mentor. She says we need to find out why we are harming the animals, how we are doing it, who does it mainly, etcetera. We have been working on that with our back ground research. Mrs. Wilson says that we have a chance of being the best in the whole class. The next day, Madison was really sick. We had to work without her. The whole week she has been absent, but that didn't stop us from doing our best. When she came back, I read all of our notes and they were really good. Exibition is going GREAT!!

Exibition week one -- 03-13-09

This year I am in exibition. I chose to be in the global conservation efforts, because I really like animals and i care about what people are doing to them. The next day i found out who was in my group. They were Madison, Lillian, Abigail, Johana, and Korina . The first thing we had to do was find out which questions we wanted to research. We worked together and found out thirty perfect questions. We were really excited. Next, we began to think about the props. We decided we were going to make a movie, brochures, book marks, and activity books. After that, it was time to research. We were each assighned five questions to research, because there were six of us and thirty questions. The next few days we spent researching. Little by little, we began to find out the answers to all of our questions. Lillian was the first to finish, I came secound, Madison came third, and the other three were still struggling with their questions. Mrs. Wilson, our teacher, told us to research how people were helping, why we were doing bad things to animals, and other neede facts. We researched as much of those things as we could. We were getting lots of information. Finally, when we had less then ten questions left, we began working on the props. Madison and Korina began working on the brochures. I began writing the script for the movie. Lillian began to work on the book marks. The next day we met our mentor.
