And Then There Were None Book vs. Movie -- 04-13-09

Today I am going to do this blog about a novel we read in school and a movie based on the novel. The novel and movie is called "And Then There Were None". Here are some Comparisons and some Differences from the movie and book.

Comparisons
The novel and the movie have the same name. Most of the characters have the same names such as Mrs. and Mr. Rogers, Philip Lombard (even though he turned out to be a spy with a different name), Vera Claythorne, Emily Brent, Dr. Armstrong, William Henry Blore. The rest of the characters have different names. Also the Island and mansion are the same.

Differences
Here are some differences in the movie from the novel. No trains or taxi's at the beginning. No-one talked on the ride there. Some characters names are different such as Anthony Marston - Prince Nikita Starloff. The judge - Judge Francis J. Quinncannon. The General - General John Mandrake. Blore doesn't have a fake identity. Dr. Armstrong plays piano. Anthony Marston didn't have an Aston Martin. The little Indian statues got broken not taken. The General is hard of hearing. Blore sees Lombards gun, he doesn't show it to him. The alliance is of four people not three. Vera knows the poem "Ten Little Indians" off by heart in the movie but in the novel, she sees it on here wall in her room. Everything is happening much quicker. Not everyone confessed to their murders immediately. Lombard didn't rule out the women, instead he considers them. Prince Nikki doesn't die immediately when he drinks the poison. Lombard is under cover as Charles Morley. Lombard doesn't get shot by Vera she misses on purpose. And in the end there are two left and the judge drinks poison, he didn't shoot himself.

The movie version is very dramatized and the characters and plot is a lot different. Characters different in their personalities and plot different in some things are different in what happens to people and how.

I think that overall, the movie isn't as good as the novel because the movie was too dramatized like everyone was so sofisticated and at the end it was a different, more happy ending than the book. So in conclusion, I think that the book is worth reading more than the movie is worth watching.

Free Writing #2 -- 01-11-09

Last week in class, we talked about a new school schedule. It would be the same classes except, at different times. Instead of school starting at 9:00AM, it would start at 10:00AM. And instead of finishing at 3:20PM, it would finish at 4:20PM.
I didn't agree because of a lot of reasons that didn't suit me personally and I think that the hours should stay the same. There are a lot of complications at home that just don't work with this like I have outside of school sports activities, I have a younger sister that i need to keep an eye on when I get home and if my school ends at 4:20, I won't be home before her. My older brother takes me home on the subway so that won't work. Etc, etc.
Also it would mean less time to do homework because school would finish later. So I am definately against this new schedule.

group #4--resolution--week 1 -- 01-11-09

At school, our tables had to come up with new years resolutions. Everyone at our table came up with 3 and we shared them. Then as a group, we decided the top 5 and put them on a list together. Then we decided the best one and we had to abide by it for 2 months.
My group is called group #4 because we are the forth table from the left and second from the right. We made our resolution "Make atleast 5 people smile everyday". We thought that that was important because doctors have proven that if you smile often, it makes you feel happy which can actually keep you healthier.
Everyday I hav made more than 5 people smile so I think that I am doing well with the resolution. But I also think that it is a bit to easy and I would have preferred a harder resolution. Resolutions are fun so if you haven't already made one, I suggest you do and if you have made one, stick to it.

My Holidays -- 12-17-08

My teacher has asked my class to write a blog article entitled, My Holidays. I asked him if I could write a fictional holiday. So, this is a holiday that I have made up.

It was December 20th, one day after the last day of school and one day after my sister's birthday. I had my Swiss Air ticket in my hand. It was the ticket of my life. It was the vacation of my life. It was my plane ticket to Hawaii. I have never been to Hawaii before so I was looking forward to it very much. Today, I was going to Hawaii.
On the plane, I got to sit in the cockpit with the pilot before we took off, but I liked my first class seat better. About halfway through the flight, the stewardess brought around the Swiss chocolates. I politely said "May I have two?" I was in luck, they let me have five. Since I was in first class, there were different chocolates than Business and Economy.
When we landed, it was just like in the movies, these people were giving out the flower necklaces. Hawaii was beautiful. Spectacular. Amazing. I couldn't wait until I got to go swimming, play tennis, get a professional massage, and most of all, relax.
One of the best things was, there was no snow. I was looking forward to doing all of those things but I was also looking forward to getting home for Christmas Eve.
On December 24th, I arrived home at 10:00 AM. I went to bed and in the morning, well you know the rest.

Hey eveeryone,
Today I have chosen to write about another "Joga Bonito" video on account of, I have another freebie blog for this week.
This video is all about Street Football, or Street Soccer( as they would say it in North America).
Street Football is a very popular sport in Europe. It is not a real sport played by professional athelets but instead it is played by normal people.
It is basically normal Soccer except it is not on grass and it has some different rules such as...

There are not throw ins or corners unless the ball goes over a fence, only ruinning shoes allowed, and you do not have to wear shin pads.
This video tapes professional Soccer player playing it with normal people.

Deer Park Senior School Basket Ball -- 12-14-08

A couple days ago, my schoo's Senior Girl's Basketball final was going. They were facing Jesse Ketchum and 100 students out of the 150 students in grade seven got to go. It was the first hundred that signed up got to go. I thought that everyone would go so I decided to not hand my form in because it would be a wast of time. The day after, I found out that only fourteen people signed up so I handed mine in.
On the day, all the kids that were going got to leave their third period class, and eat lunch early. This was because the game started after lunch and we needed to get there in time. When we got on the bus, my friends and I played verbal games to pass the time.
When we got there, the game had already started and we were winning by two points. Then Deer Park started to do really well and we started to score points every 5 minutes. In the end, we won the game by a lot and we brang home the trophy.
After the game we returned to school and we finished our sixth period class.

Segregation in Saudi Arabia -- 11-24-08

For three and a half years of my life, I lived in the Kingdon of Saudi Arabia. I will never forget my experiences, my personal scars, and even the law there. It was a very strange law there. Well that is to me and a lot of other people i know. Some of the laws there, we brake everyday here. Such as in KSA, there is no pork allowed even in the country. That is because the Pig is a sacred animal in the religon of Islam. Another one is that there is to be no alcohol in the country. But some of the laws there are just down right cruel. Especially to women.
In Saudi Arabia, women are not allowed to drive. They have to wear an Abaya which is a black sort of robe and head scarf that is either allowed to show the head (that is what my mum whore), one that had eye slits, or one that was spedially made so they could see through it but no-one could see in. Those covered the whole face. The worst thing was that it was black and that colour attracts heat so on summer and even spring days when the temperature got up to fourty-five degrees celcius they would rather be in an over than outside.
Women were not the only people that wear traditional Arab clothing. Men wear it too but under much less harsh conditions. Actually, I wore a Thobe and Gutra once just to see how it felt and it was really comfortable. Anyways, the Thobe is the white robe they wear and the Gutra is the red and white checkered head piece they wear. Colour wise, I'd rather wear the men's clothes than the women's clothes because white repels heat.
Like in America during the time period of racism and slavery, women are segregated from men and girls from boys. They went to different schools, different work places and if you were not related or married, home.
So in my conclusion, I would never regret moving to Saudi Arabia because of the experience of their culture, their laws, their homes, and most of all, the people I have met there. But if you are a women, it might not be at the top of yourdream lifestyle list.

Big Ma's Point of View -- 11-16-08

Today, I am going to do a blog on a scene in a book that my class has read. I am going to do it as another character's point of view. Here it goes.

I turned around and saw a scary sight. It was Cassie arguing with a white man. Poor girl. She doesn't know any better. One day we will be equal. In the mean time, I'll have to stop her from them white men before they hurt her.
"Cassie, you stop harrasing that man and his daughter" I shouted.
"But Big Ma"! Cassie whined.
"I don't want to hearit. Now apologize" I said sternly.
"Sorry" Cassie said.
"Now let's go Cassie" I said.
"Sorry for all the trouble" I apologized.
"Come on Cassie" I said softly.
"Coming Big Ma" said Cassie while frowning.
That was a close call, I felt like tearing them white people apart. But I just can't. I wish Cassie would understand.
"Why can they do that Big Ma" Cassie asked me.
"You wouldn't understand Cassie girl" I stated.
"Some day you'll know" I said.
"Some day" I repeated.

Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry Comprehension Questions -- 11-10-08

1. Mr. Morrison is a new character in the book and has come to the Logan’s home to help them out with some of the chores around the house. This is because Papa will be away a lot and the mother can’t do all the work herself. Mr. Morrison is tall, muscular but he had scars on his skin from fire. He also had deep lines on his face and gray hair. His eyes were clear.
2. The events that lead to the Berry’s house being burnt down was that the man who lived there was John Henry Berry and people have been disliking him ever since he came back from the war. One day when he was stopping for gas at a gas station when some white men came up o the car and said “That’s the n****** Sallie Ann said was flirtin’ with her.” And when they heard that they left. Then when they were back on the road they started ramming the back of the white men’s car and when they realized that they were running out of gas they went to their uncle’s house and the white men lit the house on fire.
3. Papa says that because there are a lot of bad kids there smoking and drinking and one day, they are going to get in a lot of trouble for doing that.
4. The Logan children use dried calf skins that stank when wet for rain coats because they couldn’t afford store bought rain coats.
5. After the bus incident, the children don’t speak to Jeremy because they are scared about what had happened. I don’t think it was right because the kids chose to dig the hole and Jeremy didn’t know it was going to happen.
6. The Logan’s got revenge on the bus by digging up big holes on the road and when the rain fell, it would fill them up with water so the bus would break down and the white kids would have to walk to and from school.
7. Mr. Avery comes to the house to warn the Logan family about the white men coming to do something bad, most likely to burn their house down. What he says means that the white men are coming and they are riding in their trucks.
8. Mr. Morrison’s real job at the house is to protect the family from the white men.
9. Cassie feels sick and paralyzed when she is caught outside and then relieved that it was only the dog that found her.
Chapter 4 Questions
1. Cassie doesn’t tell Big Ma or Mama about the bus incident because the kids all swore that they wouldn’t say anything to anyone about it.
2. The children do not know much about Mr. Morrison but Cassie saw him with a gun so they might think that he is dangerous to them. Stacey wants to know more about him.
3. The kids ended up at the Wallace store because Stacey was going there because T.J. was there and he wanted revenge so all the kids followed Stacey to the Wallace store.
4. The man Big Ma married bought the land from a man called Mr. Hollenbeck. He bought 200 acres of it. The people wanted to buy it back but Big Ma and her husband didn’t want to sell it back o them.

Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry -- 11-09-08

For one of my blogs this weekend I chose to write a little preview of a book my class is reading. It is called roll of thunder, hear my cry. The novel is by Mildred D. Taylor and it is about an African American family during the great depression in the United States. The city it is based in is Mississippi. The main character is a girl called Cassie. Her youngest brother is called Little Man and two other brothers called Christopher-John and Stacey. Their family’s last name is Logan. It starts off with the children walking to school in their best clothes. Little Man was walking very cautiously, not to get his clothes dirty. Unfortunately, that meant that he would be walking several feet behind them.
Then comes the first part where you see racism come into place. Little Man, looking down only at his shoes trying not to get them dirty, walks right onto the street. Everyone else has stopped and is shouting for him to get back onto the sidewalk because a school bus is coming. Little Man then runs and jumps into a ditch at the side of the road, trying not to get hit by the bus. Inside the bus, all the children are laughing at him. It was the school bus for the white kids. As you can see it was pretty horrid every day back then for the kids and that was just one example of what it was like for the African Americans during the great depression.
I would recommend this novel to anyone interested in expanding their knowledge of what life was like for people with coloured skin in the great depression.

Hey everyone,
Today I chose to put up one of my favourite videos from YouTube on a blog article. This video is from the “Joga Bonito” series and it is all about playing beautiful soccer. The host is former Manchester United FC and France soccer player, Eric Cantona. I like this video because it shows that soccer is a very fun and entertaining sport and is played all over the world. In this video, it shows what the Brazilian international team does before a match. They get dressed in their team kit the pray. Brazil are a very talented team and have won 5 world cups.
As you can see they are happy playing together and they love the sport and that shows that if you try hard you will accomplish your dreams. Most of these Brazilian soccer players grew up in a poor village and now they are very wealthy and live a very happy lifestyle and have a loving family.
So when you watch this video, take in account how much hard work the players put into living the good life.

This is Theo Walcott. Theo Walcott is an English sccer player whoalso plays for Arsenal FC. Walcott is my favourite soccer player. His full name is Theo James Walcott and he is 19 years old. He was born on March 16th, 1989. The first proffessional team he plyed for was Southampton FC. Then in January, 2006 he signed for Arsenal FC.
He made his debut on August 19th, 2006 against Aston Villa and got an assist in that match.
Walcott's first goal for Arsenal was on February 25, 2007 against Chelsea FC. Walcott started to score a lot more in the 2007/08 season when he got a little more comfortable with Arsenal.
Now Theo Walcott is one of Arsenal's best players and he has turned out to be a very good young player.

My Weekend#4 -- 10-19-08

So I'm sitting at home writing and every time I write a blog about my weekend, I think about all the good times I've had on the weekend. When I do this it bings back good, bad, or just ordinary, plain old memories.
So it starts when the final bell goes on Friday and my older brother comes to pick me up from school. We then walk home and take it easy for the rest of the day, watching T.V., reading, using the computer, or just talking. That night we had that night we had fish with green beans and roasted, lemon juice covered, chopped up almonds wih the brown skin taken off.
Then next day was the day of the big soccer match with TFC against Chicago Fire. Before we got to the stadium, me and my dad went to go get my phone activated. Then we went to pick up my friend Ben at his house, we were takin him to the game.
When the game was over we went to his hose and said goodbye. After that we went home and had a nice chicken dinner. Then we went to bed.
The day after that we took it easy like on Friday ad now that brings me to right now, writing my weekly blogs.

Stormbreaker Book Cover Report -- 10-19-08

For one of my two blogs this weekend, I was assigned to write a book report on a book that I have read or a book that I am reading. I chose to do it on a book from the Alex Rider series called Stormbreaker. Stormbreaker is the first of the series and is said to be one of the very good ones. I have not finished it yet but I really like it.
It all starts off when Alex Rider is asleep in his bed and he hears someone knocking at the door. It was policemen telling his aunt that his uncle has just died in a car accident and he wasn’t wearing his seatbelt. Alex is staying with his aunt and uncle because his parents both died in a plane crash. Alex realizes that it was not like his uncle to not wear his seatbelt and then goes to a junkyard to investigate. He finds his uncle’s BMW and on the side, there is bullet holes and blood stains on the leather. Then he goes inside but then a big crane picks it up and tries to put it in the car crusher but miraculously, he escapes. He then jumps on his motorcycle and rides away.
That is all I have read so far because I just got it on Friday and I have been very busy lately.

Friday -- 10-13-08

It all started when the final bell went on friday. My brother picked me up from school and we walked home. Since my house is under renevation, my family and I have had to move to the Bellagio, a big apartment building that is nice and modern. It was my parents anniversary that night so my dad went to get some orchids because they are my mum's favourite flower. When my dad came back, he had about an hour and a half before my mum came home. So he had some time to prepare a nice, hot, relaxing bath for my mum. I was not allowed to say anything about it to my mum when she got home until she actually saw it for herself. She was so surprised but she wasn't the only person getting a nice surprise gift. She had bought the third and fourth season of this T.V. show called Boston Legal which our whole family loves to watch except sometimes it's a bit innapropriate but nothing I haven't seen before on a T.V. show. We then had a nice big thanks giving dinner because my dad was leaving on a trip for work the day after so we had to have it then. We had Turkey, Gravy, Stuffing, Cranberry Sauce, Potatoes(my favourite), and last but not least,Green Beans. What a good dinner it was. My dad is a great chef and he cooks almost every meal for my familyexcept when he is away on business. After dinner we had huge chocoate cupcakes and watched a Boston Legalepisode and the went to bed.

Saturday -- 10-05-08

Instead of writing about my weekend this week, I am going to write about a frgment of my weekend, Saturday. On Saturday, I woke up after a long, and relaxing sleep. I finally got up at about ten thirtyish. I then made my way to the couch where I watched some T.V. to actualy wake up from my sleep. I was half awake, half asleep when I was walking to the couch. After about an hour of T.V. I had some breakfast cereal and while I was having it my brother awoke from his deep sleep and somehow got to the breakfast table to join me in having his breakfast.
My brother then made a statement that would change the whole day's plan. He said, " I need new jeans". Then after that my mum, my brother, and I had planned to go to the Eaton center to find jeans for my older brother. When we got there, it was way to busy and that is not where we wanted to be on a Saturday morning.
Then we decided that we should not have had to go that far from wherer we lived and should just go to the GAP on Bloor street. When we arrived, my brother wandered around looking for a good pair of jeans that he liked. He picked a pair and went into the changing room but when he went in, jeans where not the only thing he brought with him. He also brought in a shirt with him. I then picked a shirt and went in another changing room to try it on.
We came out of the changing rooms liking what we had picked and then purchased them. We then left the building and proceede towards Pusateri's to get dinner.
After that we went into HMV to look around and to see if we wanted anything. My brother got two albums on we then went home. When we got home we had to eat dinner early because my mum was going out to dinner and my older brother had to babysit. So I was stuck with my brother and I had to go over to the people he was babysitting's house.
When we finally got home we where very tired and went to sleep. And that was my Saturday.

Giant Soccer Game -- 10-05-08

It was a bright and sunny Saturday morning at Giamerites Stadium. Perfect for a game of good, old Soccer. When the entire crowd sat down in their seats and the officials had checked the netting on the goal posts, and the chalk markings on the pitch, the referee blew his whistle and the game was on its way. It was he Giants from London versus the Giants from Manchester. It was off to a good start for the Londoners because they had gotten a free-kick in a scoring position. There was a bit of commotion over who was going to take the kick but once the coach had shouted over to them, it was perfectly understandable who was going to have a go at scoring from the set piece. The Londoners new star player, Leo Malcott, stepped up and put the wait of the game on his shoulders. He ran forward towards the ball. It was the most important kick of the game for him. He thumped the ball with his instep.

And that is how the ball from the Giants Soccer game, came shooting down to Earth and landing on an innocent man’s car. At least the man received a new car suspiciously in his driveway when he got home with a mysterious, oversized note saying sorry for the car incident, from the Giants from London. The man didn’t question how it got there, he was actually happy that the ball had landed on his old car because the new on was a Ferrari.

My Weekend #3 -- 09-28-08

It’s Sunday night and I’m sitting at home writing about my weekend once again. So if you’ve ever read one of my previous blogs about my weekend, you would know it all starts when the good old Friday bell rings and I wait for my older brother picks me up from school. But this week, it’s different. The difference is that the weekend this week started when the school bell rang on Thursday on account of Friday being a P.A. day. Then we go home, relax, have a cigar (not) and then wait for Friday.
On Friday the day is also a relaxing day as most of my weekend is. When time came after convincing and annoying my older brother to buy me an amazing new PSP game called God of War Chains of Olympus. Then the only thing that could part me from it was the sweet sound of the word: dinner.
On Saturday it was planned that we would go to my cousins house and we did just that. It was my cousin’s birthday and she got to choose what we had for dinner. She chose Chinese. We stayed up all night. The day after it was time to go home because it was the end of season party for my Soccer team and then after we came home and I am right now, writing this.

My Cousins' House -- 09-28-08

On Saturday, as I mentioned in my last Blog, I received a new PSP game which I wanted for the 45 minute drive over to Whitby. I was going to Whitby to see my cousins at their house and it wasn’t just any old visit, it was my cousin birthday too. They were in and out of the house all day going to Soccer tryouts and stuff like that but by the time everyone was home it was time for dinner. Since it was my cousin’s birthday she got to choose what ever she wanted for dinner. She wanted Chinese for dinner so we ordered it and there was a big fiasco over how it was going to get there because they took a long time to make it and it was going to take even longer to deliver it.
After dinner we went down and played Rockband for almost the whole night and after, we watched a movie called Drillbit Taylor. It was a lot of fun and to me it was a good birthday after all. The next day, we played and had fun but we had to go home soon on account of a Soccer party.

It was Monday night and I had just came home from school and when i was just about to open the door, i heard a voice from down the street. it was my mum calling me over. i ran over to her and said- "Hi mum, how was your day!" She answered back with a- "great, how was yours" then i said it was good. she then told me that i was invited to the Leafs game that night and we would get to be in a suite under ground and we also had great seats that were two rows behind the Leafs bench. it was so spectacular when we got there. it was my first match ever.
when half time came, we went into our suite. Wendell Clark came in and he gave us his autograph. When the second half started i was late to come up and the game had already started. i was walking to my seat when something hit me on the top of my head. the crowd suddenly went ooooh! since i was not facing the game, i didn't see what hit me but i am sure that it was a puck. if you ever want to see it and you see me anywhere, just ask me to show my cut to you.
the rest of the night was great and i had a great time and i wouldn't regret going.

9/11 tribute -- 09-11-08

Today marks the 7th anniversary of the fatal day of september 11th 2001. My heart goes out to all of those who's lives where lost and their families. In a way, it was a step forward in aircraft security and just security in general. It was unhuman and also unpredictable. I really hope that nothing like that ever happens ever again and I know everyone else does too. Once again, I send my heart out to everyone who was envolved on that very terrifying day.

My Weekend. -- 09-08-08

My weekend started on Friday right after school when the last bell went. I waited outside for my older brother to come and pick me up. It’s easy for him to pick me up after school because he goes to The York School, which is close to Deer Park. While I was waiting for him I played soccer with my friends. He took me home and then I just took it easy for the rest of the day. On Saturday my family and I had planned a long drive out to a winery in Niagara Falls. That pretty much took up the whole day and then when we returned to the city we went straight to my grandparent’s apartment for dinner. The next day I slept in until about 10 A.M. and when I woke up I just lounged around and did my homework because I had a 2-hour soccer practice later in the day. The soccer practice went very well but it also was a tough one. When I got home I relaxed, had a hot bath, and some tea. When dinnertime came I sat down at my table and waited for my steak and roast potatoes to come out of the kitchen. It was a great dinner and that night I went to bed around 10 o’clock and slept like a baby.
