My goals for this class are to be able to use the Adobe program smoothly. I hope to be able to take what I have learned in class home to help play around with pictures. I also hope that this class will help bring out some more creativity and to help me express myself in a different yet cool way. Also I hope this class will help my senior year yearbook to look amazing and to get done smoothly with little problems. I just hope its a fun class. Comment Posted on February 8, 2010 at 11:45 AM

The Dome Experience (1073983)
by LB Teacher: Meg Griffin

Our class just had one of the best assemblies EVER. It was called the Dome Theater. What we did was we first went in this igloo shaped house where we watched a movie on the Earth's structure, outer space, our ansesters, and the history of what once walked on our planet. This movie is called Lucy's Cradle. The movie was great and I sure learned a lot! It was almost 3D. It was so much fun! Comment me and tell me about your favorite assembly.

The Invention of Hugo Cabret/Brian Selznick by: Athy (1081301)
by AY Teacher: Andrew Skinner
Dear Connor,
I have been reading The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick. The most important character is Hugo Cabret. Some of the characters are Hugo Cabret,Isabelle, the old man(uncle George) and dad(hugo`s).This book takes place in Paris. The problem in this story is that Hugo`s dad had just passed away and because he wanted his dad to fix an automaton because he and his dad loved to fix clocks and they knew alot about gears and all that. Something that suprised me the most was when they changed the setting and i didn`t even know. The thing I liked about the book was when the author used real pictures for story and the real pictures are from like 1990 and matches the author`s drawings.I think the author`s message was never be too curios, and you cant always get what you want, i felt like the author was right because everything is fair in love and war. I predict that Hugo might be able to find out that who had killed his dad. I think Hugo`s step dad killed Hugo`s dad because The step father made Hugo sleep on the floor and went away for more than 3 months. The illustrations add meaning to the story because the pictures symbolize what the author wrote. Out of 10,I would rate this book a 6.I would strongly recommend this book because it feels like your really in the book.

Sincerely, Athavan Y

My Life in Pink & Green By: Monica (1064115)
by ML Teacher: Andrew Skinner
Dear Mr.Skinner,
This book is in the realistic fiction genre. It was really great. I like this book because the authour explains the characters actions so detailed. It’s almost like a movie inside my head! This book is about a 12 year old girl (almost the same age as me) who lives with her mom and grandma( and adding her sister named Claudia who’s in college.) Lucy’s family owns a pharmacy. Like any other store, It has their “Golden Days”. Now I guess they are in there “Black days”. Which means they don’t have much customers ,which means no money.
They were so poor, that they had to fire their workers. Too bad for them.

So, one day Lucy gets a call from Claudia because it was her birthday. She and her friend go to a spa but it’s not any old spa, It was an Eco-Spa. Now this made me understand the title page picture. Lucy also has a friend named Sunny. Sunny’s brother, Yamir, goes to a club called Earth Club. Sunny’s mom finds out about this and tells Sunny she should participate more. Sunny really doesn’t want to go, but she has to.
I can really relate to Sunny. Because last year, there was this club called the “Green Team” it sounded soo cool too me. But in the summer, I ended up picking garbage with Erza out side on a really windy/sandy day. It really wasn’t fun. So, this year I’m not that interested in Green Team. Sunny begs Lucy to go with her, because all she does after school is work at the pharmacy. Eventually, Lucy does go with Sunny. I think the eco-spa, and the Earth Club are some how going to help Lucy’s pharmacy by going green or re-cycling the community. When Lucy’s at the pharmacy fixing things up, she gets bombed with an idea. A relaxation room! A room where the customers can sit and wait while their prescriptions are filled in. This idea told me that Lucy was the kind of girl with lots of ideas and that she could change her entire life like Nick from ‘Frindle”

Meanwhile, Sunny meets a boy named Evan Mass at Earth Club.
Now, she gets all crazy about him. I think Evan will help Lucy save the pharmacy in some way. Well, stay tuned for my next letter about My life in pink and green.!
From, Monica

The Nine lives of Travis Keating by Farheen (1081237)
by FK Teacher: Andrew Skinner
Dear Shivani,
In this weeks letter ,I want to tell you about this great book which is called The Nine lives of Travis Keating by Jan Mclean. This is a very powerful book full of action and imotion and I hope that you get the chance to read it.
A character that I immensly disliked was Hud.He was sort of the villian of the book ,always bullieng every body ,spcially Travis because he was the new kid.One time he actually twisted Travis's wrist so he could'nt play hockey for a week.I think he did this because he was a little jealous of Travis shooting all those goals at hockey practice. At the end of the book I found out that Hud's dad actually hit him and that Hud took out all his anger on smaller kids he bullied.I began to feel sorry for him.
I am not really sure why Jan Mclean chose the Nine Lives of Travis Keating as a title. It doesnt really make any sense because humans don't have nine lives. Is it becuase Travis helped those abandoned cats, or some other unknowen reason.
I think that Jan Mclean is an awesome author. When she described how Travis fell into the ocean I could actually feel his terror and the waves crashing around me.It also helps me undrestand his fear becuae I have also fallen in an ocean and I know how it feels.
I would reccomend this book to another reader as soon as I got the chance to .This book has it all.Drama, action, misunderstandings, confessions ,lies and much much more.I really hope that you get the chance to read this book and that you enjoy it.
Sincerly Farheen
P.S could you pick this book for the next time you have to pick a book for silver birch?

harry potter and philospher of stone (1081288)
by UA Teacher: Andrew Skinner
Dear ali,
I have read an amazing story or the first 41 pages of it anyway. It starts out when we find Harry Potter in a house where he is hated. The people in the story are called Mr. vernon and ms.vernon and their obnoxious son dudley.Their house keeps getting all these letter that are addressed to Harry but for some reason Mr.vernon keeps ripping them, so they go on vacation and still get letters. Then a huge giant comes and claims that he knows Harry and then i stop reading.I predict that the giant will take harry to hogwarts school because on the back it says harry has adventures at Hogwarts school. I love the way j.k rowling makes the book sound realistic and takes you to every chapter fabulously.I want to be like Harry because he is a very patient person and i'm sure that Harrys time will come.I inferred that from the back round knowledge i know about harry potter he will meet some friends at his knew school. From what the vernons say about harry he sounds like a spoiled brat but from the way j.k rowling talks about Harry we know he is a brilliant person.I hope you enjoyed this letter sorry i couldn't have to much thinking since i only started the book but i hope you enjoyed this. See ya later sincerely, umar

White Cave Escape By:Shivani (1081235)
by SA Teacher: Andrew Skinner

Dear Writing Partner,
A book I read currently is called White Cave Escape by Jennifer McGrath Kent. It's about four kids who are stuck in a forest fire and the only place to go is the White Caves.

I had the same emotions as some of the main characters, when these two other boys chased a fawn off a cliff and it died.I was sad like Petra, but I was also angry like Craig because they did it on purpose and they were giving each other high fives like they won some kind of game.I thought that they were really mean, and that fawn didn't do anything to them.I don't want o be like those boys because they took an innocent animal's life, and they were screaming with joy!

My favorite character in the book is Tony because he makes me laugh even in bad situations.I made a connection with this character and my friend Farheen because they both don't take things too seriously, and they always make you laugh.I infer that Tony doesn't take things too seriously because Tony is really sarcastic and he makes a lot of jokes even when they are in a forest fire.

I would rate this book a 10 because it has a variety of different characters with different personalities which makes you feel different personalities which makes you feel different emotions.I hope you enjoyed my letter.

Sincerely,
Shivani

Thea Stilton and the Mountain of Fire By: Kazim Naqvi (1080450)
by KN Teacher: Andrew Skinner
Dear Mathushan

I read the book Thea Stilton and the mountain of fire a long time ago, but I still just read a little bit of it to refresh my memory. The Thea sisters have to go to Australia to save Nicky's family farm, ALL OF THERE SHEEPS WOOL IS BEING STOLEN. But the nasty theif is Mortimer McCardigan, Nicky's neighbour, he is trying to steel the wool so he can sell it in the upcoming wool fest and get more money. In this book the Thea sister's travel all around the country, to find him, but thats not all, Mortimer has piosond the sheep and the only way to get them to grow more wool and survive is if they find the aboriginals and get a vowel.

While reading this book, I asked myself, are the sheep going to die, but I had a feeling that they weren't because with my experience with other G. Stilton books, its that all of his books end in a happy ending, never sad, so I had a doubt that the sheep were going to die, I also asked who was the kidnapper, but later on in the near middle of the story I found out that Mortimer MacCardigan was the thief.

I remember when I read a picture book, the girl had to go buy wool for her new coat, and while reading this book I thought that if Mortimer did steel the wool, Nick's family wont have any money, because Mortimer basically got double the money.

If I were Nicky and I had evidence that Mortimer was the thief, I would call the police, because if someone was steeling the sorce of my money I would be pretty upset because I wouldn't
be getting money and would have to live on the streets ( Never have, never will ). But if I didnt have any evidence, then I would try to sneak in his barn and get my sheep back or come up with some kind of a plan to get rid of Mortimer then get my sheep.

In all Geronimo Stilton books it is kind of hard to visualize, why?, well on mostly every page there is a picture or some type of font that helps us realize what he is trying to say.

When I first got the book and I read the back, I thought, what does a mountain of fire have to do with sheep being stolen or piosond well, I found out that when Nicky and the Thea sisters find the aboriginals and get a vowel, they find out that Mortimer has hidden them in a cave under a mountain, so thats what it means by mountain of fire and the fire part means that they have to do a ceremony with the vowel and pour the vowel in fire.

We All Fall Down By:Daniel Bensusan (1080170)
by DB Teacher: Andrew Skinner
Dear Mr.Skinner

The book that i have just finished was such an amazing bok i just couldnt put it down.In the story Will is going to his dads office for the day and his dad works at the world trade centre in New York.It starts off as a normal day for will when all of the sudden he is in his dads office looking out the window and sees a plane hit one of the towers.Everybody rushes like animals to see what had happened but all everyone sees is smoke coming from a hole in the tower. Will father then tells everyone on that floor to evacuate but not use the elevator, just in case a plane hits their building. After everyone starts to evacuate the floor Will and his father start their down the stairs when all the sudden another plane hits their building and blows up.This is all I can tell you because im running out of space.

The author of the book is none other then the incredible Eric Walters. In this book he really draws you in to this book by adding alot of emotion and feeling.EX.Will and his father were walking down the stairs as they almost couldnt breathe. This is why I think Eric Walters is an amazing author.

In this final paragraph I want to talk about what might happen in the next book.I think that will and his father will be in there beds hurt and very fragile. Also I think that once Will is feeling better and might go to see his friend James and tell him that he was fine.Even though James dad was in the building when it collapsed and know one knows if any of them made it out.

Sincerely,
Daniel Bensusan

Percy Jackson and The Sword Of Hades by:Rick Riordan (1080311)
by MS Teacher: Andrew Skinner
Dear, Kazim
The book i’ve been reading is Percy Jackson and the sword of Hades by: Rick Riordan. This makes me think of another story called Twin soilders. This story talks about 13 year old Jason Freely and how he finds out that his parents are monsters and gets sent to a special camp to train him, just like Percy and this makes me think about why people get mad because there different. I predicted that Hades wanted to fordge a new symbol of power but it was actually Persephone. I thought this because Hades didn’t get treated good by his brothers and sisters never wanted him to live at Olympus because small things he’s done. Have you ever felt like someone didn’t treat you like they wanted to be treated so Hades took his anger on Olympus and didn’t help. This made me connect to Crash a little because Crash’s family wasan’t like Pens so he took his anger on him by bullying him. I thought Percy would never help Hades but he knew Nico would try to get his dad to love him. I f I were in Percy’s shoes I would never help him because he’s not going to help Olympus. How would you feel if
Your uncle would never help you at the time you need him the most? Another character I noticed was Iapetus , I know this guy isn’t nice because in the text he says “FLEE, IAPETUS NEVER FLEE’S” what would you think of him? I would think he’s the type to stay his ground and never leave anyone to live because he charges Percy with no hesitation. From my background knowledge I know if you were stuck In a cage for thirty years , when you get out you would be very mad just like Iapetus but he was stuck in the Tartuas (Gods can’t die so they get thrown in the Tartuas)for 1 millenium. In the story Percy meets the queen of ghosts and she shows ghosts that you feel guilty for and it shows the image. Sometimes I feel like his life is so much better then my life but when I think carefully I can visualize the monsters and Titans trying to kill me. Also when I was reading I noticed that Rick Riordan wrote these books so that being different isn't always better. So I am going to continue reading and find out what Hades does with the sword. Sincerely, Mathushan
