Earthquake

Article posted October 11, 2010 at 09:14 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1437

Zzzzzzz.
Wake up! Wake up!
What?
Wake up! We need to get to safety.
Why?
Because there is an earthquake.
Oh no.
In Canterbury, near Christchurch, there was an earthquake and on the scale it was 7.1 and that is big. There were no deaths but two bad injuries and cuts and broken bones. Buildings collapsed and roads were shut.
Sand started to come out of people’s nice cool gardens with nice funny garden gnomes. Then water started to flood the roads. The people got out their canoes and started to canoe down the road.
What do you think? Kids are allowed to play in the cracks in the roads. I reckon they are only allowed if their parents are watching.
It’s just getting worse. There are more than 100 aftershocks. But the water pipes got fixed. Some students from the university helped the people in Canterbury.

New Zealand is a small island country in the south Pacific Ocean.
The Waikato River is the longest river in New Zealand. Mount Cook is the tallest mountain in New Zealand, 3764 metres high. Lake Taupo was one of the biggest eruptions in the world.
New Zealand is one of the biggest dairy farming countries in the world. New Zealand send kiwifruit all over the world. We use animals such as sheep and cows. We use animals for meat, dairy products and wool.
We play rugby and our country’s team is called the All Blacks.
The kiwi is New Zealand’s native bird and it can’t fly.
There are 4 million people in New Zealand and there are one million people in Auckland.
New Zealand is small but the country has a lot of different plants, birds, landscape and people.

One day there was a girl doll named Milly. She has brown hair and blue clothes. Milly does not have any friends but one day she met Molly. Milly had got sent to Auckland by her owner. Her owner sent Milly to her little cousin because Milly is an old doll. Milly’s owner was very sad because Milly is going away to Auckland.

Milly is in Auckland.
“I wonder where my owner’s cousin’s house is?” thought Milly. “Oh there it is.”
“I wonder how old my owner’s cousin is? There she is. She’s little. That’s bad.”

“Here is Milly, your new doll,” Milly’s owner said to her cousin.
“Thank you” said the cousin.
And there she was, Milly’s new doll friend the doll in Auckland called Molly.

MONSTER PROJECT

Article posted November 5, 2009 at 10:00 PM GMT • comment (1) • Reads 785

I'm working with Caleb and we're making the body and ears. We cut out the body and painted the body red. Kate helped too. We had a problem it was hard to keep the spikes on but we solved that by putting more hot glue on them. It was fun making the spikes but the funniest part was putting hot glue on me. Then we had to cut out the body and paint it but the easy part was painting on the polka dots. I might do the teeth.

Where we live

The Livewires live in the North Island in New Zealand. Ten Livewires live in town and 14 live on farms. Most dairy farms are out in the district. Most of the milk goes to the milk factory and gets made into butter and cheese.
Some small mountains are extinct volcanoes. Maungatautari is a very special mountain because there are kiwi on it.

A kiwi is an endangered bird. Male kiwi incubates the egg for about 65 to 75 days. The female chickens don’t lie on the eggs for that long. A kiwi egg is six times bigger than a hen’s egg. Kiwi have very strong legs to run. Their favourite food is worms, insects and berries.
