We have three 6th grade Science classes and two 8th grade Science classes blogging here from the Pacific Northwest in Chimacum, WA! Sixth graders are learning a bit about Mt Saint Helens, environmental science through fresh water ecology, and physical science this year. Eighth graders are learning about life science this year. Please join us as we learn Science by exploring our world.

Interphase: Cells look inactive, this is the longest stage where DNA replicates, proteins are produced, and centrioles divide.
Prophase: Microtubules of the cytoskeleton disassemble, and grow the mitotic spindle
Prometaphase: The nuclear envelope breaks down so the nucleus is not recognizable. Some mitotic spindle fibers attach to kinetochores, other fibers overlap at the cell center
Metaphase: Tension of the spindle fiber put all the chromosomes in one plane at the center of the cell.
Anaphase: The kinetochores separate, fibers shorten, and chromatids began moving to cell poles
Telophase: Chromotids stop at the poles the fibers disappear. Cytokines: Spindles break down only the ones overlapping Microtubules reorganize to interphase.

Take the wheel for example it's round it's design is so simple yet it stayed the same over the years. It makes it easier to travel because it is round it makes it easier to roll so if you put something over it it would move that object or you could use to carry things for you.

I learned that hurricanes are called different things depending on where they occour in the world. Hurricane Sandy must be really tough for the people in New York. I hope it doesn't cause a lot of injuries and destruction. Hopefully they will recover quickly from this diasaister.
