waves

Article posted June 3, 2009 at 03:26 AM GMT • comment • Reads 339

We learned alot about earthquakes. There are two types of earthquake waves, they each have their own features. The first waves are the fastest, or Primary waves. These waves of energy compact and expand the earth. They can also move through water.

Then there are the slower waves: Secondary waves. These shake the earth back and forth. but these waves won't go through water. they just dissapear, They need those links solids have to transfer their energy.

stream table

Article posted June 3, 2009 at 03:20 AM GMT • comment • Reads 113

in our last experiment we got to play with mud and water. We set up a stream table with some dirt and elevated it with 3 text books on one side, then we poured water (out I think it was 24 oz). We then recorded the width at the middle of the channel the water made. The erosion was really interesting.

Heat transfer

all energy in an extended way comes from the sun. this is the heat energy example. The sun creates energy that it RADIATES to the earth which gives life to organisms and they can use tools to create CONDUCTION transfers like a pot to the handle and there is also CONVECTION transfers that occur when liquids transfer heat to each other.

reaction lab

Article posted November 25, 2008 at 04:55 AM GMT • comment • Reads 409

In class we did a lab to see what would happen if we mixed vinegar and baking soda. My team changed the amount of baking soda by 1 cm. each time. The amount of vinegar stayed the same at 20 ml. We measured it by putting a balloon over the beker we mixed it in and the carbon dioxcide blew the balloon up and we measured the size of the ballon in cm.

1cm baking soda = 22cm
2cm baking soda = 29cm
3cm baking soda = 32cm
4cm baking soda = 34cm

the more the baking soda the biger the biger the rection
