Weathering and erosion

Article posted March 9, 2009 at 05:21 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 262

Weathering and erosion are the proccess in witch sculpt and mold the earth's surface. Weathering is the break down of material by air, water, plants, and animals. Erosion is the movement of canyons and other large land forms. There are solutions!!! You can plant tree's and grass in the places that are not sterdy enouf so that the roots can help make it wore sterdy. when you go to the beach it may help if you stick large sticks in the ground to help the sand from blowing away.

yikes. density delemma!

Article posted March 3, 2009 at 04:06 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 20

In Mr.G's we did this project called Density Dilemna. What we had to do was write a letter to King Hiero II saying which of his 5 crowns was made of pure gold. To find the answer out we had to use density. To get the density of a crown we had to divide the mass by volume then we got the answer

Floating crayons!

Article posted March 3, 2009 at 03:59 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 33

Does the amount of salt affect the order in witch crayons may float? We figured it out! :]
My prediction was as we add salt to the water the crayons will float in order from light to dark. I thought this becuase you would think that darker crayons would have more die in them and would way them down. When we changed the amount of salt (10 grams each time ) The order in witch the crayons floated was NOT determined by color :[ it was determined by how dense the crayon was! My prediction was wrong and there wasnt really a pattern ligh and dark crayons floated at the same time. I wonder if we changed the brand. would that change anything?

Float you boat!

Article posted March 3, 2009 at 03:48 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 21

In Mr.G's class we did a lab where we made boats out of tin foil :] we put pennies on them to see how many pennies the boats would hold. My hypothesis was the amount of salt in the water would determine how much pennies the boats would hold. we had a 10in by 10in and folded them in fourths. We did 3 trials for every half film canisters of salt.

My hypothesis was incorrect :[

Temperature and density

Article posted March 3, 2009 at 03:42 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 29

Mr.G had a hoop. And a ball that just barely fit inside the hoop. After it was clear that mr.G could fit the ball in the hoop he began heating the ball with a blow torch. ( the ball is metal/iron.) Once the ball was heated it was clear that the ball could no longer fit inside the hoop.If the mass of a object changes than so does the density. If the mass goes up than so does the density. But if the volume goes up than the density will go down. If they both go up equally than the density will stay the same.

Heat transfer.

Article posted November 25, 2008 at 01:24 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 153

Heat is the vibration of molecules. the more the molecules move the warmer they get! If a molecule vibrates way to fast a solid will become a liquid.
3 ways to make molecules vibrate: conduction, convection and radiation.

conduction-when a molecule bumps into another molecule and transfers some of that movement energy to the other molecule.

Convection -the movement of molecules within fluids ( liquids, gases and rheids). Convection is one of the major modes of heat transfer and mass transfer.

Radiation- is energy waves or particles that are givin off by a body as it changes from a higher energy state to a lower energy state.

Planting update

Article posted June 2, 2008 at 08:17 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 194

My class did two experiments on plants. one with milkweed and the other with the seeds of our choice.
neither of the experiments were very interesting because our plants did not grow so we don't really have any successful data. as you can see we are having a lot of trouble! the manual that we got does not cover the problems we have.

bye.

my class has been learning about global warming.
so far i have learned that 40% of people depend glacial melt for their drinking water. thats very bad becuase what if global warming melts all the ice? then what well they depend on? i also earned that three factors cousing the collision between civilization and earth are population, new technaligy and way of thinking!! im learning alot right now..
ill keep you posted.

Article posted May 13, 2008 at 08:06 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 135

my class decided that we were going to participate in the car pooling challenge. we went out to our parking lot and counted all that cars!! after that we did what we could to let people of the campus know about earth day and how we would appriciate it if they eathier walked to school rode a bike or even car pooled to try and have less cars in the parking lot on earth day. on earth day we counted cars again and our final result was 138 cars! the first day it was 170! thats a diffrence of 32. we saved 626.048 pounds of carbon.
