Seth's Music Tech Blog

This class is for high school students at Winnebago Lutheran Academy who want to learn how to make music on computers. We use Audacity and Garageband as our main tools, and we have fun almost every single day figuring out how to make music using audio and MIDI, but we also learn how to record vocals and instruments and even play guitar and drums if we need to.

We keep personal blogs (look on the right column of this page and click on our names) to help us remember what we've been working on, keep track of the all the decisions that we've made on our projects, and to share with our family and friends the music that we've created.

Dance Project 1:

Listen here.

Dance Project 2:

Listen here.

For Dance Project 2, I...

(x) - Cut out most of the lyrics, keeping only a part of the refrain
(x) - Keep the product under or near 1:00
(x) - make it sound right!

Title: Nightmare
Artist: Eleventyseven

Intro (0-26)
Synth Part 1(part of part 2 to remove lyrics)
Synth Part 2
Ending

Looking Back...

- Fading Rock into Techno is harder than you think
- The first part of the synth part had lyrics, I had to copy the second part to replace that, it worked about 98% well. You can hear the fade out of "...mare..."
- Making it about 1:00 was actually the easiest part, I ended up about 57 seconds, and didn't have to change anything at all!

Thanks for reading and feel free to comment!

My First VIdeo Projects

Article posted September 29, 2010 at 03:35 PM GMT • comment (2) • Reads 163

The first video project I did was a simple audio swap of "Vertigo" by U2 for "Re-Education (Through Labor)" by Rise Against.

Our second project was the original iPod commercial, with our own audio track. I used the song "Never There" by CAKE. I also did my first voiceover in this project.

For my third project, I used a Porsche commercial. I removed the original audio track completely. I added the song "Sweet Home Alabama" but still had no car noises. I then found another video on YouTube of just Porsche noises. I downloaded that as audio only. I then imported that into GarageBand and found chunks that sounded appropriate. Every single car noise you hear is not from the original commercial. Enjoy!
