"Max, come play grounders with us." Robert yelled from the playground. There was only one more day before summer at Hasland Middle School, but most kids were already losing their minds with excitement. "Not today guys, I'm getting my work done before summer."

"Alright,  see you tomorrow." Robert replied

Things were looking great for Max. If he did all his homework today, he would be good to go for summer. His teacher never gave homework on the last day. Buried in his thoughts, Max reached Hillcrest Road before he knew it. It was quiet, all the kid's celebrating at school, their parents at work. Max was kind of sad he would be at home doing work, but he knew it was the best thing to do. He came to an abrupt halt outside his house. There was a big white van outside his house. Looking down, he saw broken glass on the floor. He looked up, and stared in horror at the hole in his door. He put his hand through the hole and turned the door knob. It was open! Max slowly stepped inside, and eased the door shut. The lights were on. "Hello?" Max called out. No answer. he could hear slow, creaking upstairs. His heart was beating out of his chest. He opened the door and went back outside. He took a deep breath. No mattter how dangerous, he would confront the robber face to face. He slammed open the door, locked it behind him, and ran up the stairs. A tall man in full black ran towards the kitchen. Max heard breaking glass and dashed into the kitchen. The kitchen window was in pieces on the floor. Max was in no state to pursue him. He sat down on the couch and took into account what happend. How could could be so stupid? The robber could have struck him on the head and left with anything! He would be way more- Max listened intently. The the door was rattling progressively louder. Thank God he locked it. He wasn't scared anymore, he was angry. He ran to the kitchen and grabbed the longest knife he could find. He ran to the top of the stairs and took a defensive stance. No one was gonna take anything from his house...
