Peter's math blog This blog is for Miss Jovanovich's algebra and geometry classes to share ideas, ask questions, and reflect on what skills and topics we are studying. If we are lucky, we might even get a chance to connect with other students studying the same stuff.

The problem I created was "If a tree is 120 feet tall, what is it's height in miles?" To solve this you just need to convert feet into miles. (120ft)(1miles/5280feet) by doing this, this cancles out feet and leave soyu with miles so on paper you would just multiplty the top row which leaves with the answer of .0227miles. Article posted February 10, 2012 at 05:29 PM GMT • comment • Reads 43 In this post I will talk about rates and ratios and provide you with a link to help you under and practice unit analysis. A ratio is a comparison between two things using division. A rate is a ratio comparing two different units. An example of a ratio would be something like 4:5 (or 4/5) people bet on this race horse. An example of a rate would be something like 20mph (or 20/1h)because it is comparing two units. A unit rate is a rate with a denominator of 1, for example once again 20mph would be a unit rate because the denominator is 1. Unit analysis is converting things like minutes into seconds or hours into minutes. Time is not the only thing used for this. Distance,Volume and many other units are used in this process. This link does a really good job describing unit analysis http://www.alysion.org/dimensional/fun.htm . Here is a link that provides you with problems to solve for unit analysis http://student.ccbcmd.edu/~cyau1/121PractProbOnUnitConversionSp2005.pdf . Some og the problems are a little advanced but I think they are good practise one you get the hang of it.Hope this post helped you! Article posted December 13, 2011 at 08:50 PM GMT • comment • Reads 59 Hello everyone! mid-terms are next month and that's exactly what this post is about. Over the past two quarters I have learned a lot in my algebra class. Some things I learned are Real numbers, CLT, exponents, and many other things. I am very good at solving equations and combining like terms but the thing I am having trouble with is definitions. words like coefficient, constant, product, they just don't stick so that is what i'm going to study really hard. I have not really given much though to the exam but I knew they were going to be coming soon, and soon happens to be next month! I feel that they wont be so hard as long as I study with what I struggle with. Three things I could start doing know is just going over and reading the definitions I am not familiar with. I could also make flash cards of the definitions to help study. And one other thing is to go back and look at my tests and read those. Well I hope you all have a great week! It is almost half way through quarter one. It has gone by very fast and I have learned a lot in my algebra class. My goal was to improve on solving equations which I have done. The thing I have problems with now are the vocab words. Words such as constant, monomial, binomial, trinomials, etc. right now in class we are working on combining like terms (TLC for short) I had trouble with adding and subtracting like terms at first but today I got the hang of it. Multiplying them was easiest since anything can be multiplied. Thanks for reading everyone! will have more posts soon.

Article posted November 7, 2011 at 04:20 PM GMT • comment • Reads 83 This quarter one I have learned many things. My skills on evaluating expressions have gotten much better. I have enjoyed this quarter very much and I can not wait to see what we are going to learn next quarter! The one thing I was frustrated with this quarter was solving the equations. I am not the best person with equations and I struggle at solving them. My goal is to improve by the end of this year and my other is to get a 100% on my midterms. This is my quarter one reflection, prepare for more posts next week. Article posted November 7, 2011 at 04:20 PM GMT • comment • Reads 83
