High School

High School: the last and hardest step to finishing school. I interviewed two high school students to know what’s going to happen when we get to high school. These are my questions:

1. What do you like about High School?

H.S.S. #1- Closer to finishing school.

H.S.S. #2- It’s the time in your life when you discover yourself.

2. Do you feel safe in school?

H.S.S. #1- Yes. If you’re concerned about bullies, they’re nothing to worry about. Don’t let them get to you, because once you do- they’ve won.

H.S.S. #2- Yes, High School is a pretty safe place and there is nothing to worry about as long as you do your own thing.

3. Are you learning a lot in High School?

H.S.S. #1- Yes. High school is an opportunity to expand my perspectives so that I can figure out what I want to do with my life.

H.S.S. #2- Yes. It is preparing me for the life after High School.

4. Do you make a lot of projects in High School?

H.S.S. #1- Yes. Especially in IB, from what I hear.

H.S.S. #2- Yep! They will get harder but it’s just one more thing to overcome in order to prepare for college.

5. How was your transition from Middle School to High School?

H.S.S. #1- It was surprisingly easy. A bit more work than what I was used to, but I got the hang of it after a while.

H.S.S. #2- It was overwhelming at first but everyone goes through it and adjusting to the extra work is pretty easy, put little more effort in what you do and you’ll be ok.

6. Are the homeworks hard?

H.S.S. #1- No, they’re just extra practice to make sure that you got the lesson.

H.S.S. #2- As long as you paid attention in class, it’s alright. Helps you review the lesson.

7. What will you do when you finish High School?

H.S.S. #1- I will definitely go to university but where I’m going and what course I’m taking is still tentative.

H.S.S. #2- I will attend a university, hopefully abroad, and then I will be independently living on my own.

I thanked the two high school students and walked away, knowing what will happen when we get to High School and to know what is possible and what is not.

Show Not Tell: Bonfire

RG

It was finally night time at Deir El Qamar. 5A and 5D walked to the camp’s activity site. Everyone was saying that Mr. Andrea carried a flamethrower. It turns out that it was actually a water gun to put out the bonfire. Earlier, everyone collected sticks, then when night arrived, Mr. Andrea stacked two thick sticks on top of each other to form an Indian hut with thin sticks inside. Soon the wind formed a fire. Everyone sat around the bonfire while it blazed through the night as it grew bigger and bigger. The smoke coming from the bonfire filled my nose as it passed through my body. The twigs and charcoals scorched slowly in the bonfire. The heat from the bonfire warmed me and everything around it. Mr. Andrea told us stories about his adventures. At nine P.M., everyone went back to their tents while Mr. Andrea put out the bonfire.

5D’s Camping Trip in Deir El Qamar

5D and 5A were preparing for the hike. Everyone took their water bottles and put their caps on. We hiked out the camp site and hiked to the mountains. Everyone was complaining, moaning, and bleeding because the thorns attacked their legs and arms. Between the hike, we spotted poop-smelling mud. Mr. Andréa told us to go around it. We hiked on and found (as Mr. Wissam told us) Fossil Land. Most of the class found clam fossils, some found snail shell fossils and only 2 people (I’m one of them) found quartz. We also found a cow’s bone. We kept going and everyone was fatigue. We all stopped and sat on a row of rocks. Some already finished their water. Everyone was asking, “Is the bus coming to pick us up?” We all found out they weren’t. 5D and 5A hiked back to the camp site and fell inside my tent. Then I asked myself, “Did we hike for four miles?”
