We are a class of Year 6,7 & 8 students, aged from about 9 years old through to 13 year olds. We live in a small rural community in the North Island of New Zealand. We have a fantastic school where we are offered lots of fun and challenging learning experiences.

Cross Country 2011

“Trent, Trent we’re the best better than all the rest we’re here for fun we’ll do our best go Trent!” chanted the Trent house. As they sang on I started running over the hill. The voices of the singing children faded away as I ran on into the distance. My lungs were pumping for air. I was halfway there when I heard a voice, it was Mrs McGee’s voice of course she was cheering on the other students that were participating in cross country. As I jogged around the corner I felt a stitch occurring in my body as if a knight had stabbed me. Finally I was on my second lap and this lap was shorter, the pain in my legs got stronger and stronger, it was just then I felt like I had to collapse to the ground but I kept going. I reached the end I lay down and rested on the prickly grass. Many races had passed by and it was time to pack up, once everything was packed away and children were being filed on to the bus. It was time to head back to school and time to do work like always but this work wasn’t what we expected we got to play games on the computer or play outside. Cross country was fun I enjoyed it and I mostly was proud of myself and everyone else in my house group.

My Holiday 2011

There I was lying in my bed so cold from the frost I couldn’t move a single muscle. I was tucked in my bed so tight, it was like someone or something was squashing me to death. It was about 9:00 in the morning, my dad came into my bedroom and he opened the curtains up wide. “Rise and shine” he said to me. The sun came out from behind the clouds and beamed into my room it was as gold as a coin, “we’re going to Edgecumbe” my dad said “why are we going down there?” I asked “because it’s your cousins birthday” my dad answered. Once I was dressed my body warmed up. As I walked down the hallway my dad was banging pots and pans and flipping pancakes. As I stepped into the kitchen I smelt the fresh smell of golden pancakes I licked my dry cracked lips and sat and ate, the rich creamy butter on the pancakes dissolved in my mouth. Once I had finished my breakfast I loaded the heavy bags into the boot. Aching and tired, moaning and groaning I did not know how many more bags I had to take. When we had arrived at Edgecumbe I stepped out of the car and stretched my numb legs. The golden brown autumn leaves danced across the sparkly green grass as they were making their way across the paddock. We were getting food for the hangi, dishing it onto plates. The smell of steamy stuffing filled my nostrils. Everybody had finished their kai, we did the dishes and rested. We stayed there for 2 more days then headed home.

I came place in every event. In high jump I came in 3rd place, in shot put I came in 3rd place also in discus I came 3rd. Athletics was fun and I was very fit.

ON FRIDAY THE 13TH OF AUGUST ROOM 4 WENT TO A SCIENCE ROADSHOW AT KAITAO SCHOOL. THERE WERE LOTS OF SCHOOLS THERE. FIRST TWO MEN TALKED ABOUT THE AIR PRESSURE. FIRST THEY SHOWED US A PIECE OF FEATHER AND A CONTAINER LID, THEN HE DROPPED IT AND TOLD US TO WATCH AND SEE WHICH ONE LANDS ON THE GROUND FIRST. SECOND THE OTHER MAN HAD A CAR TAPED ON A CARDBOARD WHICH HE SAID WAS JAMES BONDS CAR AND JAMES BOND WAS A STONE. WHEN HE PULLED THE STRING JAMES BOND FLEW OUT THE CAR BUT LANDED BACK IN THE CAR BECAUSE JAMES BOND MOVED AT THE SAME SPEED AS HIS CAR. THEN AFTER HE FINISHED WE WERE ALLOWED TO PLAY ON THE MACHINES. IT WAS FUN!
