I can't believe it’s now the Thinkfest Challenge. Today the Awesomes and grandparents did a castle in the Thinkfest Challenge. We had to make a drawbridge that works. The hardest part was cutting the hose and making shapes for the trees. I made the boar with a wheel and square, then drew a face on it. Jasper’s Dad had a lot of ideas. I did too. We have flags and a flower on the top. We made a moat with a crocodile in it. We made the crocodile by scraping a shape with the split pins. We tried to put the hose over the top and wind it from there, but that didn't work so we chopped it in half, so one was on top.

On the first day of the fishing season, my dad and I went fishing on Lake Tarawera. We tried to catch fish in a lot of places. We decided to go into a small bay. Suddenly a buzzing sound was heard. My line was stretching out. I had caught a fish. It was a big one. We rang my mum and then we caught bigger fish than the first one. We rang my mum for the second time. She was so excited, I thought she had fainted and I said, “It's bigger than the first one.” Dad reeled the line up as fast as he could. He had two tinsy winsy fish on each hook of the line, and all that time we had two fish. We both laughed. I drove the boat back to shore. Everyone in my family was proud of me. They all laughed at my dad.

Hi, I am Flat Stanley and when it comes to playing I'm the best. When I was climbing a tree I went so high that I couldn't get down. Then I saw some birds coming. Are they coming to rescue me I wonder? Can anyone see me? Will I ever get down? I peered through the bushy leaves and realised that I was 3 metres off the ground. Well, that's what I thought. After a while I slipped out of the colossal sized tree. I landed with a thump. There were 10 more minute’s playtime. There was nothing I wanted to do. I thought for a few seconds and saw no one was playing on the monkey bars. When I had enough I climbed another tree, not so big, hoping this time the accident wouldn’t happen again.

Rotorua is unique because of the Mount Tarawera eruption, the Polynesian Pools, the Government Gardens, the Blue Baths, bubbling mud, Rainbow Springs and the Buried Village. It used to be a Maori village when the eruption came. It got buried, now it’s a cafe. It is very popular. The museum has two movies featuring the eruption. It's got Maori things. It's got stuff from the war and stuff the Maori people used when they had wars. But even if there are other things that make Rotorua special, they are my favourites.
Rave is a place that artists go to work. Rave does art lessons and art classes. Rave stands for Rotorua Arts Village Experience. Rave makes sculptures out of clay. Rave puts on shows displaying their art and sculptures out of clay. Rave can teach you to play instruments. Rave can make portraits better than you've ever seen. Outside the Rave Centre there is a spider web made out of strong string and glass beads that shimmer in the sun. It's got one corner hanging off a tree. The other corner is off a balcony above the entrance. Rave is painted with yellow and red paint. .. The outside of Rave looks as pretty as the paintings they do there. Rave is very tall and long. Quite a few artists can fit in it. Most artists try to do their best so they can make a difference and feel good about it, instead of doing something hard.

Anzac Day.

On Anzac Day we bake Anzac biscuits because in the war the wives baked biscuits to send overseas. Anzac stands for Australia, New Zealand Army Corps.
The war was 1915, a long time ago. The place of part of the war was in Turkey. The place in Turkey was Gallipoli. The place in Gallipoli was Anzac Cove. At Anzac Cove there were no ambulances, so they used donkeys carrying people from the war up and down steep hills. We Wear poppies because of a poem called “Lest We Forget.” It is about people from the war lying under the fields of poppies. We have parades because we want to remember our relatives and other people.

I was about to start the race and I was really ready to run. Today it wasn’t just any day, it was the Run Bike Run. Nearly everybody was over excited. When people’s classrooms were called out they were very excited. It was at the big field. All the Juniors and the Year Threes were doing it. When we were told to go I was sprinting as fast as I could. When I was nearly out of school I got a stitch and I had to walk. Soon I started to get speedy but then it started to hurt again. When I saw my bike I grabbed my bike, put my helmet on and biked round the whole thing. My legs hurt a lot. At the end everybody applauded for me. I was really happy. I got an ice block that stuck to my tongue. I was happy for myself. When I was running I felt sweaty. When I was biking I felt great and fabulous.

Cascading Waterfalls.

Out of the drain pipe
Cascading waterfalls come.
Everyone running away,
Big puddles everywhere,
Umbrellas going inside-out,
People going crazy in rain.
Rain gets louder,
The wind sounds like thunder,
It may never ever stop.
It’s getting freezing,
Enormous plops and splats are being heard.
I’m not going outside.
