My first question to everyone is how was your Freshman Year? Did you like it? Did you hate it?
To me Freshman Year was a tough year, but some parts of it were still fun. Some of my favorite classes were Drafting and Intro to Tech (Woodshop). In those classes you had to work hard, but you often had fun and could talk with other people as long as you were working on what you were supposed to be working on.
Drafting is a fun class because as long as you draw the drawings out the book you can still talk to friends. Its a little complicated, but after using commands over and over you get the hang of how to do the drawings and if you need to fix something, its no problem.
Woodshop is another fun class. You have to make the three items he shows you, but you have that class everyday and you get to work on things. After you make those items and get ahead a little, you can start making whatever you want. I have made at least two of everything we have made all year. That classes is really good for later in the future and it is fun. You get to make things out of wood and then take them home when you are finished to have for yourself or if you have made it for someone.
Those are major classes too, but they were a lot more fun than actual subjects. Civics was also another fun class with Mr. Hein. Even though it is tough to understand sometimes with government and how it functions, he always made class fun. Freshman year was a fun year, but a lot of hardwork and sometimes it can be disappointing.
Some classes are more fun than others and thats just the way it works. That is why before this year I chose carefully of what I was going to take and I am happy with what I took because some classes that I took were really fun, but no matter what you have to take English, Math, Science, and a type of Social Studies. If you didn't have to take those classes, I think everyone would agree with me, that nobody would take them.

This Year's Freshman!
You are all Freshman this year which means you have passed 8th grade. Freshman year is a hard year. There is no point in lying. Some things are easier than others though depending on what you like or are interested in.
The most important thing is that you have to do your work. I slacked off a little from time to time and I still have good grades, but I could be doing better if I stayed doing all my homework. I am not telling you to do your homework once in a while because it might cost you some grade points and that could be the difference from passing and failing.
Those are some of the bad things along with a few others because if you don't stay on top of your work, you will get behind, there is no doubt. Freshman year is not like Jr. High; the teachers don't help you to get your work. You have to go to that teacher and ask them yourself.
There are some good things in your Freshman year, but in my opinion there is more bad things. I have already told you about the bad things, but some good things are is a bigger talent show. If you choose some minor classes instead of all major classes you will have a lot more fun. Plus, it is not as much work as a major class and it is also a lot more fun. Intro to Tech is a good example. Making things in woodshop, its a good skill to have and its not as serious as regular, boring, major classes.
Your first year in High School is tough, but if you do the things you like and have fun in school, then it shouldn't be much of a problem, but in order to do well you have to apply yourself and your skills to get through the year.
Sincerely, Tyler

Sing Out!
What song refers most to Romeo and Juliet. "Romeo and Juliet" by Dire Straights? "Prepare the Masses" by A Change of Pace? or "Don't Fear the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult? In my opinion the song "Prepare the Masses" by A Change of Pace is a good description of Romeo and Juliet.
Most songs just use Romeo and Juliet to say their love for each other, but this song actually talks about Romeo and Juliet's love and not just a boy and girl in love. Just like a boy and girl in love; it describes two people in love, but in the song it uses parts of the book to show how they describe Romeo and Juliet.
Out of the list of songs to choose from, I think this one was the most accurate of "our Romeo" and "our Juliet" because in some parts it uses lines from the book. It also mentions other parts of the book (not openly stated like some lines) if you know what their describing. The accuracy is very good for this song using quotes from the book and you can tell they are showing the real Romeo and Juliet.
That is why I think, out of the songs given to us, that "Prepare the Masses" by A Change of Pace is the best descrition of Romeo and Juliet and is also very accurate.

What kind of music do you like, what genre, rock, country, or maybe you like the new music coming out like dubstep and sceamo?
I got the idea to write about this blog at my friends house. I know it seems a little weird but we were listening to music pretty much the whole time I was there. Now I like a whole bunch of kinds of music. I used to like just rock and classic rock and I still do, but my friend had showed me a bunch of different songs, so I don't like just one kind of music anymore.
Plus music is something everybody can relate to, its not just for some people, every person can find something they like. Everybody usually likes something different and that depends on your personality a little. Most people like a lot of different kinds of music and different artists, but it all depends on your personality and what you think about a song and how it sounds.
Comment and tell me what your favorite type of music is whether it's rap, rock, country, hip-hop or a combination of all of them.

What branch of the military is your favorite? Do you like being on the ground, in the air, or underwater?
The USAF (United States Air Force) is my favorite branch of the military. I think flying an F-16 would be a lot of fun. The reason I like the Air Force the best is because I think they are important.
ARMY
The army and national guard are usually just stationed around the U.S. unless of a natural disaster, when the national guard would help out which would be ok, but in other branches you get to go overseas and see the world.
COAST GUARD
The coast guard is part of the military that protects the ocean. They are stationed in the U.S. to protect and guard the ocean or who might be coming.
MARINES
The marines are our first line of defense in war, so if we get in a war the marines are the first ones sent out. I wouldn't want to be in that branch because in war they are first sent out and shot at.
NAVY
The navy is always underwater and in an enclosed space. I know the navy is usually the toughest people in the military, but being underwater, I think, wouldn't be a whole lot of fun and plus you can't explore.
AIR FORCE
I think the Air Force is the best because you have to fly and even though that might make you sick like on a submarine. In an airplane though you have to focus more on what your doing when in a sub some people just sit for the ride waiting to get to the destination. The Air Force I think is the most helpful too. They support ground forces and tell where the enemy is. They also fight other enemy planes who are trying to do the same thing we do, give the enemy our position.
That is why I think the Air Force is the best branch of the military. "I know all this because my uncle told me about all the branches of the military".
Over the summer I am going to Michigan to see my grandparents and other relatives. I haven't seen any of them in 2 years so hopefully everyone can make it there and we can see everyone. Every summer that our whole family plans to go to Michigan we always do something fun. In the summer of 2008 we took a rafting trip that was a lot of fun, and we won. My uncle wanted to make a bet that whoever came in first would receive five dollars and I said no because I didn't want to lose five bucks, but then I ended up winning so I guess I should have taken him up on the offer. This summer though my uncle wants to take us on a trip somewhere in Michigan to go camping and to do a lot of other things with us since we only see family about once every two years and sometimes it is even longer than that. The other fun things we do everytime he comes up is we shoot guns. Since he is in the army he likes buying guns and using them so he lets us older kids and adults shoot them to see what they are like and how they work. It's a lot of fun since we all get to see the types of guns. I already know a lot about guns, but it is still fun to talk about them with my uncle.

“Where's the sense of riskin' the lives of the eight of us to save one guy?” Private Reiben
A historist would celebrate the movie Saving Private Ryan by Robert Rodat.
One reason a historist would celebrate Saving Private Ryan because this movie shows how war is hell, and what it can do to a man. Even though it may not be for a younger person, there is a lot of swearing because war is a place where no one wants to go. It is a great example of historicism because it really focuses on the story's setting.
Anyone, who truly wants to go to war, has never truly been there before. -Larry Reeves
Another reason a historist would celebrate Saving Private Ryan is because the setting of the movie is just like the setting of real war and what happened back then. This movie shows great historicism because it emphasized the importance of history and it was based on a true historical event. The movie was about a battalion who go to rescue Pvt. Ryan after all his brother were killed in action during the Allied invasion of Norway on June 6th, 1944.
In conclusion, this is why a historist would celebrate the movie Saving Private Ryan because the movie showed how war can effect someone. The movie also showed what happened on that day and it was based on a true historical event during World War II.

Which way do you learn the best? Hand-on, seeing, or hearing? I learn best by doing things hands-on because you also get to actually do something while your learning.
In woodshop, we have made a heart shaped stand. The stand took us six weeks to make and I know that seems like a long time, but we only have forty-five minutes a day to work on our projects. Some days we even have less time because of Wednesdays. As you all know on Wednesdays we have a shorter day, which means shortened periods.
With the heart shaped tables or stands, our teacher had to teach us how to use a new machine in the shop. We learned how to use the Radial Arm Saw. The Radial Arm Saw is a combination of a circular saw and a track arm execpt the radial arm saw does cut the wood all the way through. It cuts dados in the wood creating a small arc to put the screw in to attach the legs and the heart pieces together.
Making this project requires a lot of knowledge with power tools. You have to know how to use a power drill, a jigsaw, radial arm saw, and a power sander. When your table or stand is all done you have a decision to put on a coat of stain to make the wood darker, or you can just put on clear coat. A stain makes your wood darker and a clear coat just brightens up the project.
If you plan on making something like a stand or table it will take a lot of practice. Making something look good is easy, but actually making something good is the trick!

Evil or Not Evil?
Do you ever do things bad? Have you ever been caught doing something bad? Are you considered bad because of what you have done? In the book Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury, Jim is accused of being evil, but I believe that he is not an evil person. Jim is not evil because Will impacted Jim’s life, Jim would never hurt Will, and the carnival had tricked Jim into turning on Will.
Since Jim has a friend like Will, who cares about him, Will has had a great impact on Jim’s life. When they snuck out they did it together. They have helped each other out, even when they did not want it. Will wanted to help Jim put up the lightning rod they got from Tom Fury for free, but Jim did not let him (Bradbury 10). Will also changed Jim’s personality throughout the book because in the beginning Jim was being immature. He wanted to do stupid things, like ride the carousel. Over time though Will was impacting his life and changed Jim to see what was really happening and Jim started being serious about the situation. In the end of the book Will saved Jim from the carousel (Bradbury 269). Jim was on the carousel because Mr. Dark had put him in a trance. Will and his father saved him by being happy and joyful and that brought Jim back to life. Some people would say that Will did not impact his life and that Will just got in the way of things. Throughout the book though, Will had helped Jim in more ways than getting in the way.
Jim would never hurt Will even though he gets mad at him sometimes. When Mr. Dark wanted Will dead, Jim and Will tried to hide to get away from Mr. Dark (Bradbury 208). Also when Will and Jim have fights and argue Jim never hit Will, but once Will did punch Jim when they were arguing over something. In friendship, the longer your friendship with someone the better it usually gets, so the longer your friends with someone the better your friendship is and Will and Jim have been friends for around thirteen years. Some people might say Jim would hurt Will because he is too much of a bother which he might, but only because he cares about his friend Jim.
Jim is also no evil because while the carnival is in town, it tricked Jim into being evil. Mr. Dark also gave Jim an offer to ride the carousel forward so they could be business partners running the carnival. In order for the offer to work they had to kill Will first and Jim did not want that to happen to Will. During the carnival, the Mirror Maze attracted Jim too. In chapter 16, when Jim went into the Mirror Maze he saw an older version of himself and got scared. Mr. Dark also tricked Jim into riding the carousel and Jim rode the carousel for a little bit before Will was able to get him off of it (Bradbury 269). Some people would say that Jim was not tricked into helping Mr. Dark, he just did it because he wanted to, but that is not true because Jim’s mind was taken over by Mr. Dark and he was forced to ride the carousel.
Jim was not evil because Will impacted Jim’s life, Jim would never hurt Will, and the carnival had tricked Jim into being evil. Those are three reasons why Jim was not truly evil in the book Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury.
