Franciscans: Good or Bad?

Article posted November 29, 2011 at 09:42 PM GMT • comment • Reads 265

I think that the Franciscans relationship with the Indians was more bad, than it was good. I think that it is bad because the Franciscans brought over diseases that could be potentially fatal to the Indians because they do not have the certain kinds of medicine to defeat the virus. Also, the Indians could be threatened by the Franciscans because they could steal the Indians land. The Franciscans could make the Indians do forced labor. If they make them do forced labor, they could do too much work, with little food or money. Last, the Indians had to change the way they live. This is bed because if they change the way they live, some natives would lose jobs. They would lose jobs because the Franciscans could have brought over new technology that would take care of most of their jobs. Also, they would have to adapt to life with the Franciscans. But, if the Franciscans left, they would most likely bring their technology with them. Then, that would leave the Indians to adapt to life without the technology.

Joseph Libby

Hello. My name is Joseph Libby. I was born and raised in Coupeville, WA. I was born on
February 5,1907. I was the auditor for the Whidbey News Times for 34 years. In those 34 years I was elected 8 times. I died half way through a 4 year term in office. The biggest challenge I faced in life was running for office and raising 5 kids! Running for office was a big challenge because being the auditor was the only thing I had ever done in my life. If I wasn't elected, I don't know what else I would do. My father was also the Island County auditor. Thank you for listening,

Sincerely,
Joseph B. Libby
