Roadkill Analysis

Article posted June 11, 2009 at 11:17 AM GMT-5 • comment • Reads 838

In my school (Rye Junior High) we do a road kill project in 7th grade. For my project I decided find (out our information) what year had the most road kill for 8 weeks. Also, when I was done with that I am going to figure out y this was like that. For example if there were a lot of road kill there was a increase of animal population, people moved here, they tore down some forests, or big tourist year. A couple reason that there is not a lot of road kill would be dieses, or low population.

During this project I discovered that in 2005 there was not a lot of road kill. This might be because our data was incorrect or that was a drop in population. But it was neither the reason there was not a lot because that was one of the hottest years on record so the animals stayed in one spot so that they could stay cool. And the road would be extremely hot from the sun. This might have affected this year’s road kill but it didn’t because it was too much time for this year to be effected by it.

In 2002 and 2004 there was a lot of road kill (more than 70). This was probably because there was a raise in population so that there were more animals were crossing the street. Also the animals would need to find more recourse because of the increase in population causing them to need to cross the street more than usual. What do you think is the cause?

I think that next year it is going to go down because the road kill has been going up the past couple years. Meaning that the population would go down so fewer animals were going near or on the street.

Seed Packets

By: Carter Madden

In our Language Arts class we read the book Seed Folk by: Paul Fleischman. It was about people living in Cleveland and their story about a garden that somehow changed their life or gave them a chance to make friends. It all started in a vacant lot were a little girl planted lima beans in remembrance of her father .Such as one of the character’s story was about how he messed up with a girl so he started to grow her favorite vegetable (tomatoes) in the garden which was right outside her window. When we finished the book we made seed packets. One of the seed packets had to be a character from the book then one could be like an animal or person etc. I did my dog. Her name is Lola. She is a small but fierce dog. She loves to play and chase my cat and other dogs. Sometimes she links she is a bigger dog it is really funny. Also, I picked Curtis because I thought it was nice and thoughtful that he planted his girlfriend’s favorite vegetable for her, and he took his friends joke. He went from the nickname ceps to tomato.

Acid Rain is a bad thing it can hurt animals. One of the causes of acid rain is the power plants. That is a cause of acid rain because it burns fossil fuels like coal or oil. Another cause of acid is cars. Cars cause acid rain by polluting the air. Then it goes up and goes though some moisture then the sun hits it and then it rains and u have acid rain.

One solution for acid rain is to not drive as much or carpool. Or bike. Or walk. Another way is to not use so much power like turn off the power for an hour or something. There are so many ways that we can cut down acid rain.

In this picture I made a sunny day. My inspiration was how on a summer day I always felt really good. Just if you were wondering the car is there because it's a sunny yellow.

When I see you the air is sucked out of me like a vaccum.

I'm pulled to you like the gravity on jupitar.
