Roakill Analysis

Analysis

I choose to study which animal was killed the most by cars and other automobiles during the years of 1997-2009 in Rye and New Castle New Hampshire. I did this certain project because I wanted to know if it the amount of dead animals was related to the number of population this animal had. I believed that the Grey Squirrel would be killed most likely in every year the highest. I picked the Grey Squirrel because we have a very high amount of population of them in Rye and New Castle. Grey Squirrels often live in forest like areas to be close to their main food source nuts. They do not learn from other squirrels mistakes so often there are many kills in one area.

I found out that squirrels are the highest amount of roadkill. There are many squirrels in New Hampshire because of are dense forests that seem to running on life. These animals have a very high population. Many squirrels will die in the night when they are on the road thinking no one is there. IT seems we need to watch out for our furry friends.

The problem with my results is that we cannot be everywhere at once. Most of the recording come from where students live and around them. This leaves a lot of space open to other roadkill. If there was an over populated area of squirrels and you lived near there them then the graph would show high mount of squirrel roadkill. Other mistakes that might be made are the person identified the animal wrong. This may happen because animals do look the same but they are often different.

then I started thinking what you can do to change it. It is up to us to help them because it is mostly are fault that they are dead. They cannot hear us coming or doing anything. I am thinking that if we put signs up in over populated areas of squirrels telling people to slow down they may. This will give the squirrels a chance to cross the road without getting hit. Or to tell drivers on signs that they are going into an area where they should watch out for wildlife on the roads. It is our job to take care of the wildlife because actually the animals do more for us then you think.

Roadkill

Article posted May 8, 2009 at 03:09 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 335

Here is a graph about the amount of roadkill killed within a time span of 7 weeks. There is a defiant more amount of roadkill in the first week then all the others. For weeks 2, 3, 4, and 5 the numbers are fairly low but it would be best if there were none in the first place. During the 7th week numbers are rising again. I think this is to the weather being warmer and drier.  It is just a graph showing you the roadkill amounts and if you want this happening to your own animals.

Seedfolks Seed Packets

Seedfolks

To learn a sense of belonging and feel as if you are a part of a community read Seedfolks. This is a book about many people’s sense of perspective on a garden started by this little girl named Kim. Most of these people are from different countries and came to the U.S. to find a better life and it ended up being worse than there life before. People live in crowded buildings, you hear gunshots from your room, and everyone is just unfriendly. The garden supplied a way for this group to stop their act and be their true selves letting their friendliness out. Paul Fleischman the author did a great job of making this the meaning and true story.

The first things we did in this project was read. We read each person’s perspective and discovered what the garden mean to them. We had a sheet of paper where we copied down the name of the person, the plant they grow, why the grow that plant, why were they drawn to the garden, and what did they gain from the garden. Some people learned It in a short amount of time others it took some time. After this we choose one person in the book who really stood out to us and we wrote down that person’s personality, a quote they said, and the things that they used to grow the garden. After this you choose someone else to do this on. This person was a relative or somebody who felt like family. I choose my nephew Sean and from the book I choose Amir an Indian native.   They both stood out to because they are both ethnic. My nephew is half Chinese and is learning French, Chinese, Spanish, and English. He is not even 2 years old yet. The last thing I did was make them a seed packet. Amir grew eggplants so I drew a picture of an eggplant such as on a seed packet, wrote a quote and on the back write their qualities and growing instructions. Then I did the same for Sean. It lets you see people who are important to you and why they are so important. It opens up your view of the world.

Stock Market Project

Article posted March 3, 2009 at 01:37 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 303

Final Report Stock Project

In November 2008, our math classes started working on a project called the Stock Market Project. In it we had to fake buy 3 companies and watch the company’s progress over the following of 14 weeks. I decided to invest in the companies First Solar, AT&T, and Google. I bought 34 shares for First Solar, 72 shares for AT&T, and 13 shares for Google. The total money spent on these stocks was 9991.58$. The reason I choose the stock First solar was because it had to with the selling and production of solar energy products. I thought with Obama coming into office he would try to find other resources that were good to our planet for energy. The company was also doing very well in the situation are economy is in. I picked the company AT&T to do because it was one of the largest phone producers in the world. Many people in business use AT&T because there coverage is more spread out than any other coverage. One of the minor reasons was because the blackberry storm was coming out and I thought that once it hit the stands it would raise AT&T stocks way up. The last but by far the biggest company in my list is Google. I choose Google because it is the largest search engine in the world. Also I choose it because I use it lot and I believe you can apply things from your house to help you in school.

I f I was to make any changes to my stocks there would only be about three.   One of them would be to delete AT&T from my investments. AT&T never really went up and when it did go up it was only by a couple of cents. It also made me lose money which I do not like in the slightest.    If I was to change anything about first Solar it would be to put more stocks on it. First solar got the most money and has the best chances of going up. Google is going solid and I would probably just add a couple more stocks on it. Just to do a little better, but I would not spend that much because Google’s stocks are very expensive.   I liked what I did with the fake money I got and if it was my real money I feel it would turn out to the best.

My advice to other people is to invest maybe in some of the companies that will have a break through soon.   The smaller companies tend to rise and when the rise you will be the one getting all that cash. Try all different types of stocks to the big the large the medium too. You never know which one will surprise you. Also I suggest that you buy some of the new solar energy or resourceful things that are healthy to the Earth. More and more people are become conscious of waste and things so garbage companies and stuff is not the best.    Do things you feel are best and use a little knowledge but really just trust your instincts.

Joe Flood's Visit

Article posted December 8, 2008 at 02:42 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 278

Joe Floods job is to go around to different schools and tell you about the bad things that can happen to you if you drink or do drugs. He never once tells you though to not do drugs or drink alcohol. He tells you what can happen and then leaves you to decide your own life. When he is at your school he discusses things such as marijuana, cocaine, alcohol poisoning, and what to do if you are put in a position to do these things. For instance did you know that if you are knocked out by too much alcohol you will die from your body filling up with your own vomit? I know now to never let myself get put into that position, and to always tell people what I think is right and wrong. Also if someone I know is put in one of those positions I can help save them from themselves. I thought this whole experience was great and knowledgeable and would love to do it again.

Antarctica - Transportation

Article posted November 21, 2008 at 03:01 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 303

This year the 8th grade science teacher in my school went to Antarctica to find out new things about Earth. She will be there for 2 months doing diving for her team. How cool is it to have a teacher who goes to Antarctica and scuba dives for fun. Well it is awesome! Some things that surprised me was how they get around in Antarctica. There are many ways when you would think there were only a few. It shows how well we are adapting to Antarctica. There are sprites(a type of snow cat),snomobiles, ATV's, bulldozers, heavy duty trucks, helicopters, and airplanes. This equipment helps people travel safely over different types of terrain. It can also be used for things like the army if it is able to work in Antarctica.
