Roadkill During Moon Phases

My hypothesis was that the new moon would have the most roadkill because there would be more animals out during the night because they would feel more protected under the cover of the dark. I also thought this because the drivers would be less likely to see the animals running across the street. It turns out that the new moon had the second least amount of roadkill out of all of the moon phases for the last nine years. My hypothesis was wrong.
I found out that the new moon had the most. I think this is because the animals are more used to having a dark area to run around in so it isn’t as used to having it so bright.
I didn’t expect to have the full moon have the most roadkill. Another variable that could have effected is the time of year because during the first part of the year there would be fewer animals because of hibernation. While later in the year there would be fewer animals hibernating so there would be more animals outside which would mean that there would be a higher likeliness of animals being hit by cars. So if a moon phase was later in the year that might make a difference in the amount of roadkill. So the moon phase isn’t the only thing that could affect the # of roadkill.
Next time I would pay more attention to the chart while the actual recording is going on so I would know what exactly was happening with the roadkill. In all I would just pay more attention

Over the last 8 weeks my class has tracked the roadkill that we have seen on the roads around Rye and Newcastle. The graph above shows the total amount of roadkill and each type of animal. The animal that we have seen the most was the poor little gray squirrel. We found 21 gray squirrels plastered to the road.

Do you like gardens? If so this book is the book for you. The book’s name is “Seed Folks” by Paul Fleischman, and it is about a garden that starts with a little girl, but grows into a community project. Our class had to do a project on this book starting with reading it. While we were reading it we also did a chart on the people and what they were growing and why. The second part was to brainstorm ideas on making a seed packet for a certain person in the book and one for a person in our life. After that we made rough drafts of the seed packets and then the final copies of them. The final copies are shown below. They show the front which has the drawing of the plants, their names and a description of the person who is involved with the plant. The second drawing shows the backs of both of the packets. They have directions on how to take care of the plant. My first packet that I did was on one of the characters in the book. Leona is the character and she planted goldenrod. The second packet that I did was on my aunts dog “Midnight”. For him I did a combination of a bonsai and him. All in all I think that I diid a very good job on the project.

Acid Rain

To inform you about acid rain here are some clues on what causes it and how to reduce it. Acid rain comes from pollutants that era made by burning fossil fuels or natural gasses. Two of the pollutants are nitrogen oxide and sulfur dioxide. When these pollutants mix with the water in the air they start a chemical reaction that can take place over a distance of 50-300 miles or 500-1500 miles before theyu actually become an acid. when the acid does come out of the clouds it can pollut the water, kill wild life and eat away at metal. the acid rain can be a big problem.
There are ways you can prevent there from being more acid rain. You could use your car less so you don't pollut the air. you could also use less electricty so the power plants don't waste coal making electricty and polluting the air. You can also save the planet now.

Stock market
In math class we had to make a stock portfolio and choose three stocks to track for fourteen weeks. I chose Google, Boeing co and Diamond trust series 1. I chose Google because it was a well known company; it had a high buy price and the stock was going up. I made fifty dollars per share on Google and I bought sixteen shares so I made seven hundred dollars on that. Another company that I invested in was Boeing and it was a horrible decision because by the end of our project I lost a few hundred dollars. I thought that it would be a good idea because it was a stock that was going up and I thought that people might be using it as an airline for vacations because it was also well known but I didn’t realize that people wouldn’t be flying while the economy was down. The last stock that I invested in was Diamond trust series 1 because I needed a filler company that didn’t cost a lot but was going up. In all I only lost a few pennies over that company, but with the loss of money from Boeing and the gain from Google I actually made 197 dollars.
If I could have changed a few things on my portfolio these are what they would be. The biggest change that I would have made would be to put less money into the Diamond trust series 1 and Boeing and put more money into Google because I lost money on both of them and made fifty dollars per share on Google. Another big change that I would have made was to not even invest in the diamond trust series 1 and switch it with a wind power company because I thought that an alternative energy company would be making a lot of money because of the oil prices being so high. If I had made these changes I would have made more money on Google and maybe had a boost with the wind company.
There is some good advice that I thought of during this process that others might be interested in. The first bit of information I would give would be, be careful on which stocks that you invest in and look at all of the information and graphs before you do invest. Be sure that you invest in big well known companies that are going up because the smaller companies might not have as many investors so check the volume of the stock too. A last bit of information I would give would be not to invest while the economy is in a rescission. All in all I think I did well on my portfolio.

In art class we were making weather collage. I start out making a desert layout going from the sand desert to the largest desert in the world which is the frozen landscape of the antarctic. I didn't notice that when I put the border going from the orange to the blue that it would turn green. So when I messed up on that I had to be creative and come up with a new lay out so I made it a summer scene with a light blue beach.
I used pipe cleaners to make the suns rays and tiles to make a texture for the water. The glossy appearance came from the modge podge which is a kind of glue that is glossy. I used light brush strokes to get the whisped appearanced. I used many techniques.
