Road Kill / Day of the Week

Article posted May 29, 2009 at 09:21 AM GMT-5 • comment • Reads 351

I did a project on Road kill; I got to pick a subtopic to research and I chose to do which day of the week is most affective to road kill. I guessed Friday, because there is a lot of road rage on the road and people always want to get out of work early on Friday evenings, so they don’t even notice if they hit anything. But unfortunately I was wrong, Thursday was the most affective day for road kill. I never would have guessed that, because Thursday seems just like any other day of the week, nothing different. I was very stereotypical about the whole ordeal, and I was very very surprised about the outcome.

I discovered that more animals and cars are out on Thursdays, and most animals get hit on Thursdays. Some variables that could have affected my experiment is what time work got out, the weather, or if Thursdays had a lot of holidays those years. I did not have any problems gathering the data of the road kill throughout this project; I collected it in a very organized way. I looked at calendars from the previous years and tallied the number of animals hit then graphed it and made a chart so I could always quickly look at it and see my results.

If I had to redo the project again, I would definitely be more open minded about the days of the week, and not only think of the days that are most popular. I would expand my variety on everything, and maybe do more research out of Rye, and New Castle. It was a fun project and I learned a lot from it, I didn’t know half the things I learned for this, and it was interesting looking at other peoples hypothesis’ and seeing what they think opposed to my thoughts.

Road Kill Graph ~ By Week

Article posted May 8, 2009 at 09:02 AM GMT-5 • comment • Reads 477

This graph shows all the animals that died due road kill in several weeks.  Its very surprising, and you would never guess that this much people kill these many animals just to careless driving. So watchout for animals aswell as just other cars on the road, because it's their habitat aswell.

Seedfolks.

Article posted April 21, 2009 at 10:18 AM GMT-5 • comment • Reads 348

Seedfolks is a quick read involving numerous people and their lives with their plants. Each chapter is a different person talking and a different person’s perspective. They say how important plants are to them, why they plant them, and the story behind them.

Rye Junior High’s seventh grade class had to do a project involving the book Seedfolks, we had to make a seed packet, with growing instructions, an illustration, and a plants name. I did my cat, Bella, I compared her to lambs ear, because it is an unusual, unattractive, and boring plant, and those are all the best words to describe Bella. This project was not like any other plant, we had a lot of freedom, yet we had an understandable outline, I would do this project again, because the good part about is you never run out of people to write about!

Acid Rain

http://www.picvault.info/images/537087778_Acid%20Rain%20Placement%20041%20KW.jpg

Acid rain is extremly powerful, it is anything 5.6 on the pH scale or lower. It has two pollutants, nitric acid, and sulfuric acid. Nitric acid is 50-300 mph, sulfuric acid is 500-1500mph. Acid rain is made up pf water, nitrogen oxide, sun, and sulfuric acid.

If you wan't to be a part in eliminating acid rain all you have to do is shut off your lights, get a hybrid car, anf walk or ride your bike more often. Its not that hard on nice days to maybe bike to your friends house instead of making your parents drive you...it makes a difference in the long run, more than you could ever know.

A Day at the Beach

Article posted February 3, 2009 at 11:16 AM GMT-5 • comment • Reads 176

I did this projcet in art class. It was an assignment assigned about two months ago. I really enjoyed doing this because it was a shell moving through space, and you had to do differnt sizes and views of the shell, and I'm not used to drawing that, it was a challenge yet, still fun. When I see this drawing I think of the beach, and a bunch of shells together. This shell is really pretty, it was rigid and off white, it came from the beach. As you can see in each shell drawing it is the same shell but in a different size, and view.

Science Valentine

Happy Valentines Day!

Roses are red, violets are blue, a barometer couldn't measure my love for you.

Without the moon we wouldn't have a tide, and without you I would always cry.

Location affects the position of the clouds, but my love for you stays the same.

The revolution of the moon is about one month, and when I see you the revolution of my heart is about one second.

NH Storm

Article posted December 16, 2008 at 11:11 AM GMT-5 • comment • Reads 199

Brrrrr! Give me heat, and im almost positive I'm not the only one saying that! After just surviving the 2008 ice storm, Im frigid, still! There were trees, and wires falling down everywhere. It was a scary scene. Nobody wan'ted to go outside, but the thing is....they had to, because of no power! Everybody was so bored, no television, no telephone, no computers! I begged to leave my house the  minute I got the news... it was so boring... and cold! My family lost power Friday morning, and we didn't get it back until Sunday mid-day. A day without heat, is a day without a smile... I was miserable! I was happy we missed two days of school... that was one step closer to Christmas vacation! The storm isn't over for some people, they are still without power, heat, electricity, etc. Mediorologists are saying an extremley good chance of snow for tonight, Wednesday, and Friday; hopefully that means no more school.

Antarctica Reflection

I think that it is awesome that ScubaDooba Doo maneuvers well, swims well, and send out excellent video! The class of 08’ 8th graders created ScubaDooba Doo. They did a great job everything runs so smoothly! On the back of ScubaDooba Doo there is a flag hanging, representing RJH.

This wonderful flag has a drawing of killer whales in the ocean, it’s a remarkable flag made by S., RJH current 8th grader. Everybody in the Antarctic group is extremely overwhelmed and impressed with this whole project, to the building of it, to the flag!

When Ms. Ellwood comes back I would really like to know how much ScubaDooba Doo weighs! It’s a good sized robot, but you can’t really tell how much it weighs. My guess is around 60 lbs. I would also like to know why her friends enjoyed it so much, because of its flag, because of its name, because of it’s skills? I personally like it for it’s name, it’s perfect!
