Do you think before you act?

If I were Prometheus or Orpheus I would probably say no, they did not think before they acted. In Prometheus' case, he just wanted to get under Zeus' skin. He didn't think about the consequences that would happen to both him and the mortals. In the end, he was tied to a mountain and was left to be eaten by the crows! Now, I can somewhat understand why Orpheus didn't think before he acted. He was love sick, deprived of his love and he had the chance to get her back. Hades would be a hard person to trust considering that in Greek myths he is the devil. It must have been hard for him not to make sure his beloved was behind him. So when he looked behind him he realized what he did and wished he had thought before he acted.

persuasive topics

In language arts, we have been learning about persuasive techniques for our upcoming persuasive essay. Mrs. Thomassen requested us to write a blog about possible persuasive topics. One possibility could be, should schools raise money by selling candy and sugary soft drinks to students? Now, the side that agrees with it could argue that it is the only thing that appeals to pre-teen, teen community. The opposing side could argue that schools always say we should make the right choices with food. Another topic could be, How much homework is too much homework? One side could argue, hey! There shouldn't be a limit to how much homework there should be, they are kids, the have all the time in the world! The other side, the side I would be on, would argue that to much homework and no relaxing time causes stress and stress is a portrait of a killer. In the end, these would be great persuasive topics.

Government spending

There are things that the government should spend more on then others. Because the government gets it's money from our taxes, I think they should spend the money on more important things like fixing roads. Sure they already do that, but when you live in a dry climate like Colorado our roads get a lot of wear and tare meaning that they should be fixed more often. Then, like I mentioned in my, "Are football players payed to much?" blog, if people truly wanted to find a cure for cancer with out radiation or kimo therapy, then our government should put more money on that. Lastly, the government should pay the peole such as firefighters, police officers, and people in the Navy, Army, etc. more for protecting our country and keeping the peace in The United States of America. If they want our easy living to continue they should pay them more so the chance of becoming a person who serves our country is more likely because people who do the job know they will be financially stable. In other countries without so many people( such as police officers, firefighters, etc.) looking out for them there is more chaos and problems. So, in the end, the government should be more wise spending our tax money by fixing roads, looking for a cancer cure, and paying people who serve our country more.

Are football players paid to much

A common topic in America is football. The NFL is a million dollar industry, but are proffesional football players paid to much? the answer is yes. The money in our society could go to much better causes than a $90 million contract to play football for 5 years on a certain team!
Our money could go to firefighters and police officers who risk their lives everyday for the better of our society. Also, if we want to find a cure for cancer so bad, then why not put the money towards that?! If we could find a cure for cancer that does not use radiation or kimo therapy or bodies, after cancer, would be so much healthier and would not be falling a part from the radiation. If radiation is so bad, then why do they use it?! Use the money from the NFL players to find a cure!
Then, as Hjelm clearly states is his article, some students are dropping out of school to try out for the proffesional football legue. Which, if you think about, there is barely a chance that you will make it in. Those students barely even have a chance in the world if they drop out of school! In the end, NFL players are being paid to much.

Things I Admire in my Friends

In Language Arts,we discussed what qualities we like in our friends. I began to wonder what qualities I liked best. Then, I thought about my friends, Lauren,Hannah and so forth. That's when I realized it: all my friends have at least three qualities I love about them. My friends are caring, honest, and trustworthy. I love having a caring friend who doesn't care if I make their shirt wet because I was crying on their shoulder. Also, I need my friends to be honest with me. If they aren't honest about their feelings or what ever we are talking about, it makes me feel like they don't trust me with their feelings. To me, having a friend means being totally honest with each other. I dislike it when my friends say they are "fine" when they truly are not. Even though these are amazing qualities in people, they will never top my favorite quality, trustworthiness. Being trustworthy is not just keeping girly secrets like crushes and songs or lyrics that they are writing. Being trustworthy is a whole lot more. To me, being trustworthy means not stretching the truth even a little bit or making small lies up just to act cool. If you do that, you take away my trust and without trust, there really isn't a friendship there. So, being trustworthy doesn't mean just telling the truth, but it means there is a TRUE friendship there. Having caring, honest, and trustworthy friends is worth so much more than have lots of friends who don't care for me.

What I Couldn't Live Without

There are a few simple things I couldn't live without, like food, shelter, and water, but if I were to think long and hard about this question, I would have three good answers. First, I could not live without my family. They love me and I love them. My brothers teach me how to treat my husband (in the future!) My dad taught me what a real man should act like and how they should treat their wives. My mom, shows me how to cook good Italian food! I couldn't live without them because they prepare me for the future. Secondly, I could NEVER live without my God and Savior (JESUS!). He died for me so I could have eternal life! Lastly, I could not live without my friends. Friends are for those deep conversations that can sometimes change your life! Friends are for telling secrets and are for laughing and smiling. These are the things I could not live without.

The Perfect Setting for a Mystery!

In language Arts, we have been discussing mysteries. This week, my teacher asked the class, "What is the perfect setting for a mystery." This got me thinking and I wondered what would be the perfect setting for a mystery? Would it be a small town were everything seems oddly perfect. A place where everyone acted like robots doing everything together. No fighting or anything. But one day somebody randomly goes missing. Or could the perfect setting be on a train when something goes terribly wrong and somebody gets murdered. No one could get of the train until the detective figures out who murdered the victim. Also, what if the perfect setting was in your very own home town. These settings are all wonderful options and any of them, I think, would be the perfect setting for a mystery.

How Fear Affects Me

Fear affects me in many ways.It paralyzed me from auditioning for the solo, in choir class. I regret not trying, knowing that I could have gotten the part. Fear crept into my mind, reminding me of singing in front of all the parents and my peers on the day of the concert. There are days I wonder what would have happened if I tried. All I know is that this burden of regret would have never existed. All in all, fear has affected me because I will never know if I could have gotten the part.

I Liked the Story, Charles the Best!

Recently in Language Arts, we read 7 short stories. My favorite short story was "Charles" by Shirley Jackson. First, I liked this story because the parents were totally clueless! Luarie, the little boy in the story,(I know, I know totally sounds like a girl's name, but it isn't!)tells a lie about a disobedient boy in his class. The parents asked Laury the boy's name. Laurie hesitated before he replied, "Charles" BIG RED FLAG! Also, I liked the end. When Laurie's mother went up to his teacher, during a parent teacher conference, and said, " Bet you got your hands full with that student, Charles." The teacher in a confused tone said, "We don't have a charles in the kindergarten" Which brings me to the last point, I liked the message the author was trying to tell us. Don't believe everything your child says. Though we love our parents, all kids disobey or tell a lie at least once in our lives. All in all, I like the story Charles.

Would Totally Hire Myself

I would hire myself because I am organized, honest, and a dilagent worker. First, I am very organized. My mom probably passed that on to me. All my drawers in my room are labeled and everything has a specific place. I don't know why, but ! love to label things!Secondly, I am honest. Honesty is important in my life. If I lie, (everybody has lied at least once in his/her!) I feel way to guilty and the truth comes out within minutes. Lastly, I am a very dilagent worker. I have only missed one assignment in my life! That was only because I was in wordmasters. The work was piling up on me and my partners did not help me. Don't get me wrong the people in my group were wonderful people. Considering that I am in seventh grade, one missing assignment is great. All in all, I am very organized because i love to label stuff, I am very honest, and I am a very dilagent worker.
