US Budgets

Article posted April 5, 2012 at 03:07 PM GMT • comment • Reads 229

The US government should spend more money on the national debt. Our country is in a huge debt right now and it is hurting the economy. If the government stopped making things such as; fast food restaurants (unless the owner pays for construction) and Smithsonians (not that I have anything against those) then there would be plenty of money to help pay off the debt. There moght not be enough money to cover all of it but there would be enough to probably take out a large chunk of debt. The economy would also be helped out a lot because there wouldn't be so many competitors for smaller stores. This would help people earn money which would be able to pay off debt. So in reality, the main thing the government should worry about is the national debt because it is hurting the economy and putting more and more people on the streets because they aren't making enough money to pay bills. This is he national debt needs to be taken caare of.

Athlete's Salaries

Article posted April 4, 2012 at 02:38 PM GMT • comment • Reads 76

Minimum wage is $7 and something cents. Professional athletes are paid thousands an hour. Why is this? Professional athletes are paid too much. Athletes have a bigger salary than doctors. The money could go to researchers instead. The excess money could also help create jobs and help hobos earn money. Lower workeers arre also underpaid for the amount of effort they put in. Justin Hjem says that more kids are dropping out of school because they think they can just become an athlete and make millions. In my opinion, pro athletes are overpaid.

The Hobbit

Article posted March 20, 2012 at 04:40 PM GMT • comment • Reads 96

After reading, "The Hobbit", I think Tolkien's attitude towards nationalism is very strong. In "The Hobbit", he is always relating war into the plot. I think the statement he is trying to get across is that war isn't always the answer but in times of desperate need it is the only answer. He is also trying to point out that good or bad consequences are drawn from war.

Characteristics

Article posted February 6, 2012 at 11:00 PM GMT • comment • Reads 92

People have many different types of qualities. I enjoy people who are nice, funny, kind, and friendly. These characteristics matter the most to me. First, niceness is really important in a person. They can always make my day and make others feel good. Also, friendliness and funniness are pretty big qualities as well. I enjoy it when people can put a smile on my face and laughing always helps people feel better. Finally, kindness matters the most to me. Kind people are really nice aand really thoughtful. All of these qualities matter a grerast deal to me when it comes to me.

Challenge or Change

In honor of Martin Luther King

Some kings rule their kingdoms sitting down
Surrounded by luxury, soft cushions and fans
But this King stood strong
stood proud
stood tall

When the driver told Rosa
"Move to the back of the bus!"
When the waiter told students
"We don't serve your kind!"
When the Mayor told voters
"Your vote don't count!"
And when the sheriff told marchers
"Get off our streets!"
using fire hoses, police dogs and cattle prods
to move them along
This King stood strong
stood proud
stood tall
Speaking of peace
of love
and children
hand in hand
free at last
free at last

When some yelled for violence
For angry revenge
An eye for an eye
And a tooth for a tooth
He stood his ground
Preaching peace

And when some spit out hate
He stood there smiling
Spreading love
Until it rolled like the sea across the land
Sweeping away Jim Crow
Breaking down the walls
Ringing the bell
Joyfully
For Freedom

Until
Standing on the mountain top
They shot him
Coldly
Hoping to see him fall
Hoping to put him away
To bring him low

But this King
even in death
even today
stands strong
stands proud
stands tall
And we remember

by Jamie McKenzie

Text-to-Text: This poem is like the inspirational speeches given by Martin Luther King Jr.

Text-to-Self: I really like this poem because t-hi
s poem relates to my perspective on freedom.

Text-to-World: This poem easily relates to the world because there is still some racism but in most places, people of every race are free

What Matters?

Article posted December 6, 2011 at 12:06 AM GMT • comment • Reads 491

I wouldn't be able to live without the basic things that life just needs. For example; water, food, air, and warmth. But some things that I don't need but couldn't live without is my phone and friends. I owuld get really lonely if I didn't have those things. I would also be bored all the time. I think my answer is different from Scrooge's because all he would say is probably money. He seems to like money a lot since he won't even give any to charity! But I am different from him because I do like Christmas and I am not afraid to donate money. So these are the things I couldn't live without and why my answer would be different from Scrooge.

Mystery Setting

Article posted November 14, 2011 at 10:46 PM GMT • comment • Reads 105

I think a good mystery setting would be anywhere that has had a dark past. A house with an eerie past or somewhere the weather is always gloomy. Even an abandoned prison, hospital, or town. I think that just little details like that would make a good setting for a mystery story.

Fear and Myself

Article posted October 24, 2011 at 01:47 AM GMT • comment • Reads 94

Fear affects me in a couple of ways. It makes me jumpy about my surroundings and much more aware of what's going on. It also makes me think of what will happen and what the worst thing that could happen is. I really don't like to be scared because then I am usually scared for a long time afterwords. Reading scary things doesn't bother me though. Watching scary things do a lot or if I see something scary in person. It also helps make me more confident though. So in general, I hate being scared but I love the boost of confidence I get from it!

''Charles

Article posted September 28, 2011 at 04:01 PM GMT • comment (1) • Reads 132

My favorite story that we have read this quarter would be "Charles". I liked this story the best because it was funny, ironic, and realistic. It was funny because of how the mom doesn't know that her child is a very bad kid and what all Charles does. The irony was that in the end, it turned out that Charles was Laurie the whole time. Finally, the story is very realistic because laurie is a little boy who lies to his parents by having Charles be his protector when all along it is just him. Overall, "Charles" is a classic story about how a mother's love for her child can easily backfire on her.

Would I hire myself?

Article posted September 12, 2011 at 03:27 PM GMT • comment • Reads 93

Obviously I would hire myself because of many different things. First, I am a hard-worker who loves to accomplish things and get them done. I enjoy being able to say that I got something really hard done. Also, I am able to work under presssure and am capable of working alone or coopritively work with others. For the most part, working with others is more fun in most cases but sometimes I just need 'me-time'. Finally, I have many qualities a good worker has. I am reliable, trustful, responsible, hardworking, and I am very determined when I set my mind to it. Over all, my working stablilities meets my standards to allow myslef to hire me.
