Pollution on Long Island Due 3/21/10

Article posted March 21, 2010 at 07:02 PM GMT-5 • comment • Reads 580

There are numerous forms of pollution taking place on Long Island. Everyday activities such as washing your car, driving your car, or even fertilizing your lawn can lead to pollution... The soap, water, and dirt from your car is washed down the street and goes into the sewer drain as you wash your car. This is harmful for the Long Island sound. Driving your car makes air pollution and sometimes the gasoline from the car may drip onto the ground and go into the sewer drain. Like washing your car, this can be harmful for the Long Island Sound and also the air you breathe.  And fertilizing your lawn before a rain storm has the same effect.

You can help stop this by emptying the water from the car you are washing in a bucket and empty it into a sink instead of onto the street. You can also drive cars less and maintain your car so that it does not spill oil often. And if you know a storm is coming, do not fertilize your lawn.

Another problem is a pollution with garbage. Many people on Long Island litter. You can stop this by telling people not to little and recycle any recyclable litter you find.

Global Warming

Article posted February 22, 2010 at 04:34 PM GMT-5 • comment • Reads 189

Global warming. Yes, the earth is warming, but isn't that natural? Some years are colder than other years... It's probably just a natural cycle that happens... The earth has many cycles. This may be one of them. And even IF global warming is actually happening, how will we stop it? It doesn't make any sense... And plus people have been burning oils for the past century... people haven't actually came up with the idea until about the middle of the 20th century. People have been burning coal, animal oils, and natural gas for some time before that. Why haven't people before that actually notice? And anyways, as I have said before, we can't stop this. It's impossible... And how are we going to die if the ice melts??? I'm sure by the time that actually comes, we will be very scientifically advanced that there would be floating metal houses on water (or something like that.)   Or maybe the heating will turn to freezing and make everyone frozen? It's probably the media's other scams... the media is known for it's poison of society.

Hydroelectricity (Alternative Energy Article 1/18/2010)

Uh... we can use like Hydroelectric power because there are a lot of moving water sources we can use to make electricity from water. Hydroelectricity can be made by dams built on or near water. Hydroelectric power can be generated by flowing water. It is used in many countries over the world and is an efficient energy source... Sometimes the dam generating electricity can fail. If it fails it can cause major power failure and many people will go without electricity until the dam is fixed or an alternate energy source is introduced to the people who used the power. Dams are a targets to invading countries... If a country relies mainly on hydroelectricity and is attacked the country would have little or no electricity. Besides the few flaws, dams are extremely expensive to build and may take long periods of time to be built. Also, you can't have hydroelectric power if you live in a desert or a place not surrounded by water. Approximately 20% of all electricity is hydroelectricity. It is very efficient and is a renewable energy source, also they produce very little green house gasses.

Maybe There is... Maybe there isn

There might be life on other planets, but we would never know... However, if we could travel faster than the speed of light we could explore those planets. There might be life on other planets because there are millions of galaxies and maybe there are millions of planets... But maybe a few of them have a different type of life on them. LIKE ZOMBIES=http://!! Or maybe something like a plant or bacteria. There probably islife on other planets. Probably ones that are trillions of lightyears away... Well since there are many unexplored planets, there has to be life similar to ours somewhere.... This may not be what a distant planet may look like...

This may what a distant planet with life on it would probably look like...

This planet may probably be too hot for life to live...

Orcus (Dwarf Planet)

Article posted December 1, 2009 at 06:34 PM GMT-5 • comment • Reads 530

This is Orcus. It has no moons and looks really tiny compared to earth because it is a dwarf planet.  It was discovered on February 17, 2004.  It is considered one of the largest TNOs (Trans-Neptunian Objects.)  Orcus has one moon and takes 245.33 years, travelling about 4.68 km to orbit the Sun. It's orbit is very similar to Pluto's in shape.  Orcus is the sixth largest known TNO. It is believed to have frozen water and methane ice on it's surface.  It will reach it's aphelion in 2019 and is currently 47.8 AU.

Enjoy this pic. It was the only one I have found :(
