End Of 4th Grade

Article posted June 4, 2010 at 01:25 AM GMT • comment • Reads 646

Every student in every class room starts thinking about what they have improved on over the year. I am so very glad to tell you about what I have improved on.

In third grade we were learning the basics of decimals, and I just really, I mean really, had no idea what decimals was all about. Well, this year in fourth grade my most spectacular teacher helped me understand what decimals are and all of the place value. Like tens, ones, tenths, hundredths, thousandths, you get the picture.

Another thing I have improved on is my writing skills. Its not that someone can’t read it, it’s because I write in print all the time. If I wanted to get an O on my report card I have to write in cursive. I soon did start writing cursive. I do hope I got an O! I now am starting to type a lot more and I am quicker at it too.

Even though I improved on those subjects I still need a whole lot of more practice. This is what I desperately need to keep working on in fifth grade. I can type quicker but I could type faster if I didn’t look at the keyboard all of the time when I’m typing. Decimals are still a challenge for me and I will practice them over the summer before fifth grade.

I need to work on social studies as well. I found out if you want to get the best grade you have ever gotten you have to study, study, study!!! And not just for one rinky dinky day you have to study every single day. You also have to read the text carefully too.

Well that’s what I have improved and what I would like to improve on next year.

CHOW FOR NOW!!!

Making Outfits

Article posted May 11, 2010 at 04:00 AM GMT • comment • Reads 125

“Have you ever done something nice or kind for someone else or for more than just one person?” Well I, Reilly, helped make fabulous outfits for kids that have cancer today, right at this very moment. I will love to tell you all about this fun job I have done.

My 4-H group and I went to this store where they collected used clothes to give to kids who have cancer. This job was community service for our club. One of the 4-H members in our club happens to be in Mrs. Crosby’s class, which is the same class as mine. Her name is Grace and she and I sorted clothes by their sizes here at this store. After sorting the clothes out, we got to create some outfits (awesome outfits to be exact) for the kids who have cancer. (I feel bad for them so much.) Some of the kids were young who we created outfits for and some were older. Grace and I made outfits for one older girl and hopefully she got these clothes and became happy. (I have to say those outfits looked so nice I wanted to have them badly but I don’t need them at all. They still looked cool!)

I did this task because I just love to make people happy all the time, I want to make things better for people, and I want to help them become comforted some way. Even if someone had a disease like this, people should come right out and try to do something for them, to make them happy and smiling. This activity turned out very well and, since I helped out they gave everyone in our 4-H group a gold pin. (It wasn’t real gold for sure.) They gave the pins to us because it was their thanks for us from helping out.

Come on and join me on helping out in big ways to help people around the world! “Help out! Help out!” That’s what I do.

Marvelous Books

Article posted April 21, 2010 at 03:26 AM GMT • comment (3) • Reads 194

DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE BOOK(S)? Well one of my favorite books I have read in my class was called The Listening Silence. This book was about a girl who was named Kiri who was five years old, and her father had just went out to hunt, and then never returned. Her mother then searched for him and never came back to her daughter.
This wasn’t just an ordinary little girl though. She had a special gift. This gift was that she was able to go “within” an animal or human. Since her parents were gone and had not returned Kiri was rescued by two people who took her back to their village. There this Kiri grew up. She met someone there who had the same gift as her and he was an old medicine man. When Kiri turned thirteen she had to find her vision as what she was going to do for her living. The old medicine man thought she was going to be a medicine man just like him. There was one problem she couldn’t go “within” a person. She set out for her vision and had some problems on her way to find it like her boat broke and winter was coming. Finally she had found her vision and went “within” a person. That was mainly what this story was about.
I really liked this book because the author used great vocabulary and figurative language that made the story sound unbelievable and fascinating. The author even made up new and exciting words to put in this story. The author had a glossary at the end of the book so you know what those interesting words mean too. I just love the character Kiri because she is always trying her best to do things even though they are absolutely hard. Kiri is so lucky that she can go “within” animals and feel what that animal is feeling. I also like that Kiri is brave. With her boat braking and her almost dying because of that and still trying to get back to land is incredible.
If you ever find this book and read it and I just know you will become one of the characters in no time.

Where I Want To Go On Vacation

Article posted March 18, 2010 at 04:04 PM GMT • comment (5) • Reads 161

If I could go anywhere for a Spring break or Summer vacation, it would definitely be the Hawaiian Islands. The reason I want to go there is because whenever I’m at a beach, I’m totally relaxed and I love the smell of the beautiful and misty ocean. I have only been to Maui, one of the Hawaiian Islands, when I was almost 2 years old. It was a family reunion trip and I got to spend time with my cousins. I don’t really remember much from that trip, but I do have pictures of how green and lush the island was as well as how blue the ocean looked.

I think if I went to Hawaii now, the experience would be much better. First, I would be able to do more things like body-surfing, kayaking, looking for creatures in the tide pools, visiting the island volcanoes, and even going to a local luau and eating a variety of island favorite foods.

My sister and I love to go to California beaches, but the water is really cold and it is hard to see the bottom of the ocean. In Hawaii, I hear that the water temperature is warmer and it is so clear that you can see the bottom sandy floor.

So I hope that my next big vacation will be to go to Hawaii and experience these new things now that I am older.

The Olympics

Article posted February 26, 2010 at 12:41 AM GMT • comment • Reads 164

I think the motto for the Olympics [“Swifter, higher, stronger”] really means that you have to put your best effort into what you do, no matter what the final outcome is in the results. It is about being a part of a bigger dream that all competitors have in representing their countries as well as themselves.
Winning is just a “bonus” for doing a good job.

This to me, means that it isn’t just to have won the game, won the medal, but more importantly, to know I have given my personal best and fought the game well.

My Amazing Occupation

Article posted January 27, 2010 at 03:29 AM GMT • comment (7) • Reads 235

Do you know what future occupation(s) or job(s) you will do?

Well, I know exactly what I want to do. I want to be an artist! I want to be an artist because through the past ten years of my life, my mom has taught me everything I need to know about art and crafting. She has showed me how to stamp leather, what colors look best together when I’m beading, painting techniques, and drawing. She also has taught me about some famous artists like Vincent Van Gogh, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Pablo Picasso. My mom also tells me if you mess up in your artwork there’s always a way to fix it. She inspires me, just like I inspire her. I truly want to be just like my mom in every way. That’s why I want to be an artist just like her. I am a very good drawer and painter and get commented about it every time someone notices it. I really do think people will enjoy my work just like I will enjoy doing my beautiful masterpieces.

I know that I have a gift of the arts – especially drawing. When I was two years old I drew many realistic people pictures and I could write my own name very neatly. I took an oil painting class when I was 5 years old and the instructor was amazed at how quickly I learned to paint and how patient I was at it.

I have spoken with my mom about how I can use my talents of art in a career besides just being an artist – because many artists are “starving artists”, meaning they can’t make any money doing it. She thought I should explore architecture as I am a detailed drawer. I could also be an illustrator for books or children’s novels. I may even go into the graphic design field and make advertisements, brochures, and other printed materials.

I might want to work for Disney and create children’s television programs or design sets for entertainment or movies.

There are a lot of possibilities in the art field being an artist. I just know I have to get good grades, go to a great college which promotes artists, and keep learning more artistic techniques to improve my skills.

One day, my family and I were going to take a walk around the wetlands near Damonte Ranch. My dad suggested it would be the perfect day for a long walk. My sister and I were so excited to go on a walk that day because it was so nice out (we thought!) Carly, my sister, and I rode are scooters on the bumpy route around the wetlands. When we were half way through the walk it started to SNOW! It wasn’t just the fluffy, nice snow…it was the hard ice snow!!! We knew we shouldn’t turn around and head back, so we all decided to endure the pain of the pellet snow and ran the rest of the way to the car. Carly and I rode on our scooters, as fast as cheetahs, to get back to our cozy, warm car. Finally, after an hour of “Mother Nature Abuse”, we finally arrived to final destination – WARM CAR!!!!. We all had a hysterical laugh because we had picked the wrong day to take a walk.
So much for Dad’s weather prediction!!!!
