I Wish I Had Superpowers

Article posted June 11, 2009 at 01:17 PM GMT-6 • comment • Reads 459

Oh how I wish I had superpowers. I could save the day! Or make the sun come out, if the sky was gray. I wish I had superpowers. I would be able to fly. Or help people who are about to die. I wish I had superpowers. I could pick up cars! Or send evil villains, all the way to Mars. I wish I had superpowers. People would think I was cool! Or I could use them, to get to school. But I don’t have superpowers. That makes me sad. But at least I would use them for good things instead of bad.

How to Submit a Comment

Article posted June 11, 2009 at 01:09 PM GMT-6 • comment • Reads 132

Hey! I’ve been pretty low on comments lately and I just figured that I could write a article that could help us all out. First, you have to read the article you want to comment so you don’t mess up and say something about the wrong article. Next, you have to click on that little gray and white comment thing. After that, you type your name, e-mail address (optional), and the spam code at the bottom. Then you click submit and the teacher approves it!

The Mystery of the Phantom Ship

Article posted June 11, 2009 at 12:53 PM GMT-6 • comment • Reads 59

Have you ever read a book about a mystery? Well if you haven’t, you should. They’re fun to read and they enhance your thinking skills. This book review is about a mystery. The Mystery of the Phantom Ship by Laura E. Williams to be exact. Please read on so I can tell you about the plot.

The main characters of this are Zeke, Jen, Tommy, and Stacey. The main suspects are Captain Till, Salem Dickey, The hunched man, and Sally Shaw. All of these people take an important part in the crime. Do you have any strange feelings about who’s been doing this yet? The plot is about how there’s a competition to become the junior crew member for the North Star. And people are so anxious to get on the crew, they’re framing each other for crimes! For example, someone stole Mystic’s winning trophy from last year and hid it inside Zeke’s locker. But there’s this strange boat called The Phantom. It can be in two places at once! Logical? I think not!

You should read this book because it makes you think, like the part in the race when The Phantom was in two places at once. It’s all about sailors. And it’s an unusual crime. Like usually the crime is like something’s been stolen or murder.

Have you gathered enough info to draw a conclusion? Probably not because I saved all of the big clues. I recommend this book to 9 year olds to 12 year olds. Please pick up this book at your local library or bookstore. We need all the help we can get!

A Day in the Life of a Stink Bug

Article posted June 4, 2009 at 12:59 PM GMT-6 • comment (3) • Reads 125

Man! I just let out a load of stink! It felt to get that out. Whew! I’m Stinky the stink bug. I go around, letting out stinks all day unlike those strange spiders, we have fun at work. No spinning webs or flying around stinging people. But one thing that’s really cool about being a stink bug is that you never really have to bath. You stink from your day of birth until your day of death! I know it may sound gross, but it actually saves time. That’s 15 or 20 minutes out of your day wasted. And plus it’s better to be dry and stinky than wet and stinky! Oh be quiet Stinky! You know us arachnids are much more hard workers than you insects. Wanna bet? You’re on!

My Wade House Life

Article posted June 4, 2009 at 12:44 PM GMT-6 • comment (1) • Reads 80

By AG

Hello! I’m Andrew Wade, and I live here with my parents and sister at the Wade House. I’m 20 years old, and John Warner and I are woodcutters. We cut a cord of wood each day. Come on, and let me show you around a bit. These are my favorites.

One of our favorite places to go in our free time is the barroom. No women are allowed in here. You see that over there? That’s a wood burning stove. That’s used in the winter to keep us nice and toasty! Men, if you ever want to stop by, here are our selection of beverages along with their prices. Well, there’s whiskey for 3 cents or lemonade for 6 cents. Oh, and the women do get to come in here once, but that’s only to clean up for 35 cents a night. Let’s move along so I can show you the Horsemen’s Highway, Plank Road.

Here it is, Plank Road. I’m guessing you have two questions. Why would they build a road out of planks? And why would they call it plank road if the road is covered gravel? I will answer both of those questions. When Greenbush first became a city, many horsemen rode across the trail that was soon to be known as Plank Road. The trail was bumpy and uncomfortable for the horsemen, and prickly and painful for the horses! So they built the Plank Road which made an easier ride for the horsemen but still painful for the horses. So they added gravel to help everyone. Now let’s go back inside and see where the women went, the parlor.

I find this room boring. But women don’t! They come in here to relax, wait for the men, or do other activities. You will find the majority of people reading, but it is very seldom to see someone playing that piano over there because hardly anyone knows how to play! But overall, it’s a pretty nice room. I hope you enjoyed this little run through of the Wade House because I got some wood to chop! Bye!

Davy Crockett

Article posted April 8, 2009 at 12:46 PM GMT-6 • comment • Reads 253

Do you want to read a book a man that did just about everything but was a poor speller? Then look no further because Davy Crockett is the book and the man! In Davy Crockett by George Sullivan and has no illustrator because the drawings, photos, and documents are primary and secondary sources that came from either historians, or Davy himself!

Since the book has countless characters, and this review would go on forever if I listed all of them. I’m just going to list the ones that are most important. Davy himself: a backwoodsman, congressman, and one more intriguing thing. The next character is Andrew Jackson. One of my favorite parts is when you first start seeing him in the book, he’s a general! And last but not least, Polly. Davy’s wife, a kind, selfless woman. The book mainly tells of events Davy did (some good and some bad) and how it affected the 1950s. My absolute favorite part of the book was at the Alamo! It was one of greatest battles the world ever saw, but something tragic happens. And that I can’t tell you.

This book is funny in some parts because Davy Crockett had a grammar problem because Davy Crockett had his mind on things other than school. This book has A LOT of action. Davy was a hunter, and in his life he was in two huge wars! And in one fought along side future president and general, Andrew Jackson. This book is also sad because when Davy returns home from the war, his wife becomes severely ill and dies. But on the scale of one to ten, I give this book a fifty! Way off the scale!

I’ve heard people say myself, “This is an awesome book!” after reading it. I recommend this book to ages 8-12 that are interested in Davy Crockett. Please, please check this book out at your local library or bookstore! I guarantee you will learn something.
