Orienteering Day 2

Article posted August 30, 2009 at 04:21 PM GMT0 • comment (2) • Reads 179

Today we started off in pairs again but we did a star relay. That meant that only one person from each pair ran at a time then they came back and gave the map to their partners.
I think we are all getting better at reading the maps!
Two groups tied for first place in the Star Relay.
They were Nic and Tom and Jo and Gemma.

Orienteering Day 1

Article posted August 18, 2009 at 04:17 PM GMT0 • comment (1) • Reads 2130

On our first orienteering day Mrs Post from Orienteering WA told what orienteering was and the important things we need to know for our orienteering sessions. We watched a short video and learned about how to hold the map and how to read it. We also saw what the checkpoint signs looked like.
When it was time to start it was drizzling a little but we didn't get too wet.

Here is Nic's report about our first day.
Today my class did Orienteering. My favourite part was when it was raining and when we had to run around in circles. I was partnered up with James. We had to go back to HK because the pins fell out. That was a real bummer. The lady gave as all a map of the school.
It was really fun!!

Arijana also wrote a report.
Every Tuesday we do Orienteering with Mrs Post from Orienteering WA. Mrs Post showed us lots of maps that she has from her experience in Orienteering. Mrs Post also taught us that we should always look at the LEGEND (which tells us where the things is like if that area is black it says on the legend it's a building. After she taught us how to read a map she put a DVD on which played this funny tune that goes like this "Turn your body 'round the map, turn your body 'round the map!". That was stuck in everyone's heads.

Then we paired up and I was Jillian's partner. Finally she set us of. We ran to the first checkpoint HA the HB, HC, HD, HE, HF and so on until HL which was the last checkpoint then we went back to Mrs Post who checked our maps.

Unfortunately in checkpoint HK the pins had fallen out so she made us go back but it didn't work.It was such a shame!

Jungle Bungle

Article posted August 12, 2009 at 04:26 PM GMT0 • comment (1) • Reads 1594

Today people came to our school for Book Week. They came to perform a show called Jungle Bungle. The Actors names were Tim and Nicole but their main characters were Oliver(Ollie for short) and Claire.

Claire always is prepared and she's not much of an adventurer, Ollie however is a true adventurer. He taught us how to sing a song. Claire and Ollie are really good at singing.

Ollie invited some people to come and act as a band the people were Nick, Elizabeth, Emily(Nick's sister) and someone else.

There were other characters like Captain Congo from Captain Congo and the Crocodile King, Will from How to Heal a Broken Wing, Sunday Chutney from Sunday Chutney and Kev from Special Kev.

We were given a challenge from Tim to read at least three of the books that they were sponsoring.

Ollie was always the new kid and Claire was trying to be his friend. Ollie asked Claire to come to his house but behind Ollie's back garden there was a Jungle that's where all the adventure happened.

Some people even went on a Safari with Claire and Ollie.

It was wonderful and we all learned a lesson "Doesn't matter if you're unusual everyone is special in their own way!"

Everyone should see Jungle Bungle and I know that everyone will absolutely love it because

IT WAS PHENOMENAL!

Tetrafide

Tetrafide

Today Tetrafide came to the school and played lots of different Percussion instruments. There were four men that played them. Neville, Marcus Josh and Josh. (One of the Joshes had to be called "Shaggy Josh" so we did not get mixed up) First they did some things on tall wooden sticks. They didn't tell us what it was called, but it was definitely very good. Once that was over, the four men played 'Cuba'. It was quite interesting. Then came my personal favourite, "Stinkin' Garbage" played on some metal bins. It was loud, interesting and fun to listen to. They then showed us another piece called 'Luggage' using only vocals and no other instruments. It was a funny piece. Once 'Luggage' was over, they went silly using the vocals by Marcus beat boxing to the sound of 'Billie Jean', and then it turned into the 'Dance Now'. The last piece was the best. Very loud and funky, it showed they wanted to go with a bang, and bang they did. It was so loud it made everything vibrate. I think that this was the best concert I had ever seen. I would very much recommend other schools to see this. It was phenomenal. Absolutely amazing. Would I like to see it again? Yes.
