Title: Winter Recess (01/29/09)
Description: This has been a very snowy, wet winter so far. Although we still have 2 months left, it seems as if we've been stuck indoors for recess forever. Think about outdoor recess. Write a letter to our principal, Mrs. Haley, telling her why you think we should have an outdoor recess when it snows. Be very persuasive. If you do a good job, she might just agree and let us out for recess!

Be sure to think of the following:

1. What are some strong reasons you should be allowed out during recess?

2. What are some strong reasons you shouldn't be stuck indoors?

3. What language can you use to be persuasive without being demanding?

4. Be sure to stay focused and organized. Think carefully about your topic sentence and conclusion. Use transitions to move from one idea to another.

5. Be sure to keep your reader interested. Show, don't tell.

6. Use high level language and an interesting voice.

7. Edit, edit, edit.

This assignment is due on Thursday, February 5th.

1 Twister 1998 -- Snow, I Like Snow!

Article posted February 4, 2009 at 02:03 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 2642

Dear Mrs. Haley,
In my experience of being at Denton Avenue, there are so many things I wanted to do that I didn’t do, and some things I did do that I liked a lot, but never got to do again. One of the things I really wanted to do but never got to do was go outside when it is snowing or after it snowed.
If you let us go outside if the weather forecast is snow, you can let us know a day before so we come to school prepared, to go outside for recess. We would wear our boots, gloves, heavy coats and a hat (if we want). If some kids don’t want to go outside you can tell some of the monitors stay inside with those kids. Also, if some kids don’t come in prepared they will have to stay inside with the kids who do not want to outside.
Even though it is inclement weather, I’d still like go outside for even a few minutes at least to let out some of my energy. I’d also enjoy playing in the snow doing snowmen or making mountains and most fun of all, having snowball fights with my friends.
I would not want to stay inside because there are not a lot of activities to do in my classroom. So it is really boring. It is so boring that I feel like I’d want to sleep “Zzzzz.” I’d keep yawning and yawning and yawning until I finally would fall asleep and begin to produce a very big snore. For the rest of my day, I would be so inane. I would not be able to pay attention because I would be so tired and falling asleep.
Lision to this message and let me know what you think.

2 Super Boy -- Recess in the Snow

Article posted February 4, 2009 at 09:33 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 574

Dear Mrs. Haley,
I think fifth graders should be allowed to have recess in the snow. Fifth graders should be allowed to have recess outside in the snow because we are old enough to protect ourselves from slipping on the ice or getting hurt. We also dress up well for the snow so we don’t get sick and even if we don’t dress properly and we are freezing cold outside we will think of how we will dress up next time.
Imagine you’re ten or eleven years old and your watching the snow falling outside and you’re wishing you could be playing in it. Every day when we have recess indoors there isn’t much we could do. If we had recess outdoors we could have snowball fights, build snowmen, make snow angels, slide on the ice etc. There are also reasons that are good for you like we might even shovel the snow if we want to so the janitors won’t have to.

3 Cody -- Recess In Winter

Article posted February 4, 2009 at 02:14 AM GMT0 • comment (1) • Reads 578

Dear Principal Haley,
If you let us go outside when it snows, we could do so many more things than when we are inside. When we are inside we can't do much. So if you Principal Haley approve this letter you will make Denton Avenue School the happiest School in the Herricks School District.
If we go outside we could play with our friends in the snow. I know why you don't let us go outside when it snows. You don't let us go outside when it snows, because we could slip and fall. But if we listen to the monitors, we will be safe. Now, if we go outside, we could build snowmen or snowforts with our friends. Also we could play sports like football, soccer or basketball. If you will let us go outside for recess when it snows it will mean the world to all the students and of course me.
If we're stuck inside it won't be as much fun as playing in the snow outside. When we play inside, we sometimes fight over who gets to use the computers. When we are inside we don't have enough space to play. Outside we have much more space to play. If we could go to our friends classrooms it would be different. Meanwhile, outside you could run around. Inside, if you even start to run you get yelled at right away. We can't even play sports except for nok hockey. Some classes don't even have one.
So Principal Haley what would you choose if you were a kid like us. I know that I would want an outdoor recess. Remember we will be the happiest School in the Herricks School District.
Sincerely,
George

4 Star15 -- Winter Recess!! :) YIPPEE!!! :)

                               Dear Mrs. Haley,

As you know, many students like to play in the snow, including me!!! In this letter, my main goal is to persuade you to let us have recess after it has snowed!!! I hope I am able to convince you to let us go outside for recess!!

One reason I would like to have outdoor recess is because we are not getting enough fresh air or exercise when we stay indoors all day. The warmth in the classroom also makes the students feel drowsy. The fresh air and exercise is a great way to wake us up before we start our afternoon lessons. The rooms always feel hot and stuffy. This makes more kids sweat and smell worse. EEWW!!!

Another reason I also would like to play in the snow for recess is because we are running out of games to play indoors. Usually we play card games, like spoons or garbage and computer games, like Alex Trax. Since we have been playing it soo much, it has become extremely boring and unchallenging. We hope you can give us an out door recess so we can do something new and those new activities would be more fun in the snow!!

I would like to play in the snow for recess because there are a lot of fun activities you can do outside in the snow!! You can build forts, have a snowball fight, make a snowman, make snow angels, and so much more!! The newly fallen snow is so fluffy you can just fall back into it and not hurt yourself!!

I would love to have an outdoor recess because I am the kind of person who simply ADORES playing in the snow but often doesn’t have time to play in it because of practicing instruments or doing H.W.

I really hope my classmates and I were able to persuade you with our letters and let us go outside for recess. I hope you are an outdoor person that agrees with this letter and maybe you can even join us in a snowball fight!!!!

                                                                                                                                                                     Sincerely,

                                                                                                                                                                      Jasmine

6 B-Ball Star -- Recess in Winter

February 2, 2009

Dear Mrs. Haley,

Don’t you think we should have recess outside in winter? This might sound outlandish at first, but I’ll tell you why we should have recess outdoors and not be stuck indoors.

First of all, recess inside is dreary, and there’s not much too do. Playing knock hockey, going on the computer, playing card games are getting tedious. Outside, we can play basketball, wall ball, hand ball, have a catch with a football or a tennis ball, play tag, and much ore. Those outdoor activities never get old! Secondly, we can’t just run around inside because then we’ll get in trouble and someone may get hurt. But if we go outside, we can run around, have a great time, not breaking a sweat, and most importantly, we are EXERCSING! Third it gets all airless indoors, and we need fresh air from the great outdoors! Fourth, the #1 thing all of us will do is wear very heavy clothing when we go outside. 2 or 3 layers of winter coats, gloves, boots, if necessary, a scarf, and a hat to keep us lukewarm and not freezing! Those were some reasons why indoor recess gets a thumb down and outdoor recess gets two thumbs up!

Don’t you want to make your students ecstatic?  Please let us go outside. If there are any questions, comments, or problems, just contact South Paris Collaborative. I hope those reasons about indoor and outdoor recess help you reconsider about keeping us indoors all winter and let us have some fun outdoors!

                                                                                                                                                Sincerely,

                                                                                                                                                                 6 B-Ball Star

7 Princess -- Winter Recess, Please

Article posted February 1, 2009 at 03:14 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 488

Dear Principal Haley,
As a student in Denton Avenue for six years, I have never experienced going out in the snow when it is recess in winter. I think there are a lot of good reasons that the students should be allowed to go outside during recess when it snows. Letting the children go outside during recess will make Denton Avenue School a happier place to learn and play.
There are many reasons why you should allow the students of Denton Avenue to have recess when it snows. First, it is important to let kids go outside during recess so they can exercise. We are in our classrooms all day and we should have a chance to go outside to run, and jump and stretch our muscles. Just like we are allowed to go out during the fall, spring and the summer, we should go outside in the winter when it snows because there is nothing different, just snow that will not hurt anyone.
Second, staying inside in not a good idea. During the wintertime many children have colds that they can spread to each other if they stay inside. If we can go outside, it will stop the spread of germs from one person to another. If we sit in the classroom playing board games and cards like we do when it snows, we will spread cold germs that way. I remember seeing students sneeze when they are using the computer and they don’t go to the sink to was their hands or use a tissue. If we go outside, we will be in fresh air and these germs will not be left there for the next student to catch.

Also, if we stay indoors for recess, we will not be able to see our friends from other classes. We will have to be with our classmates for the whole day and can’t make friends with children from other classes. Next, if we don’t go outside for recess and we stay in our classrooms we will get bored quickly. Staying in one room for most of the day will make the children tired. Then, we it is time to learn we will not want to pay attention to the teacher. We need to go to different environments during the day to keep us motivated.

Going outdoors during recess is a great brain exercise. The students will be able to look at the pretty snow falling from the sky and make good memories from it. We will be able to write poems and stories about the pretty scenes we see and draw the scenes too.

Even though it is snowing, the weather will be nice. Winter recess is a very good idea. Going outside will let us do things that we can't do indoors. We should be let outside because to be a growing healthy child you need to be active and it is also good to be with all of your friends. Snow is special, and we should be allowed to play in it for recess.
I hope that I can experience being outside in the snow during recess as least one time before I graduate from Denton.

8 The Art Guy -- Winter Recess

Article posted February 2, 2009 at 09:51 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 527

Dear Mrs. Haley

I am writing to you about indoor recess. I think that we should be able to go outside on snowy days. We should be outside for recess. We can see friends outside we don't have to keep asking “ can we go to my friends classroom”, also we don't get enough fresh air at all in doors so we would be breathing unclean air. I think this because there are problems when we stay indoors. Some of the problems are that a lot of kids scream in the classroom and at times we can be loud and if we had an emergency we would not have heard it, some kids don't follow the rules like using an indoor voices, some people want some fresh air when we are stuck indoors we don't get enough fresh air at all in doors so we would be breathing unclean air, some kids even want to see their other friends at recess but we cant if we stay indoors. I think that if we are all allowed to go outside there would be less problems in our whole school. It is very boisterous indoors And some children even complain in our classroom. If you think about it might change your mind.

8 The Art Guy

9 Japanese Girl -- Recess in the Winter

Article posted February 5, 2009 at 12:00 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 517

Dear Mrs. Haley,
Hello Mrs. Haley. Before I start explaining why I am writing this letter to you and telling you why this is a pretty serious letter, I would like to introduce myself.
My name is Natsu, and I am from the South Paris Collaborative class in 5th grade. This is about our recess time and I’m going to tell you what this is all about.
Our latest blog assignment was to write a letter to you (the principal) about having recess on snow days. Every now and then, we students ask the teachers and the lunch monitors all the time, “Why can’t we have recess when it’s snowing and play in the snow?” Of course we know that you just want us to be safe and not have any injuries because of the slippery ice, or get a cold because of the cold weather, and we definitely understand how you feel.
But, there are a few good reasons why we should be able to play out in the snow instead of having to have indoor recess throughout the whole winter. One of the reasons is that we start getting out of control when we stay indoors for such a long time. We start getting noisy because we want to play in the snow, (and many students think that if they beg and make the teachers get a headache, the teachers would give up and let us go outside.) The results are, we end up getting in trouble.
Now, I know we’re fifth graders and we’re supposed to be setting good examples for the little students but we’re still kids, and we really would like to play as much as all the little kids want to. When you were a child, I’m sure that you thought about how unfair it is to not let students play out in the snow. I’m sure at least once, once, you have thought about this when you were a student in school.
I’m sure we won’t need to play every day, but maybe when it’s pretty warm out or when it’s not too windy, we could go out in the snow. If we went outside and it was really windy or really cold, we’re going to get a cold, and we don’t want that happening, especially our parents.
Another reason why I think that it’s a good idea to play out in the snow is because we should have fresh air. If we all stay in the building the whole school hours every day, we won’t get as much fresh air we got when it was warm outside. Don’t you want the students to learn comfortably with clean, fresh air? I think we students would feel much better learning that way.
The third reason is that we should be able to play freely and to be comfortable talking in outdoor voices level. All day long, through the lessons, students keep there mouth shut and don’t talk too much. But when recess comes, we should all be able to let out thoughts and what we were thinking about out. Students feel relaxed when they can talk to their friends freely without having to whisper because other classes are working. If it was indoor recess every day, we wouldn’t be able to let out thoughts out freely and would be holding everything inside. We’ll be thinking how fun it would be if we were allowed to play outside and won’t concentrate on our work.
After you read this letter, please think this recess on snow day situation over and decide if it’s really a good idea. Please ask yourself, “is it okay to let the students in Denton Avenue outside when it’s snowing?” There are a few not-so-safe reasons but there are plenty of good reasons why we should be able to go outside. Please think it over and decide whether we should, or shouldn’t be able to play out in the snow.

Thank you for your time!
Sincerely, Natsu(9 Japanese Girl)

Recess in winter

Dear Mrs. Haley,

My name is Clare. We really shouldn’t stay indoors during winter. Think about all the negative things that will happen if we the school get stuck indoors and think of the positives that will happen if we go outside in the open air during winter.

There is many and I mean many reasons that we shouldn’t stay in the school during the winter while it has some or is snowing. While we are adolescent we should spend this time wisely. When I say wisely I mean fun. When you get older you have to do more work and don’t have that much time to play. If I was to tell you how many people are going to say yes for going outside during the snow then it will me an eminent amount. Whenever we have indoors you have to waste the PTA’s money just to buy us games to play like nok hockey. Instead of wasting that money it can go to other usage like the fifth grade graduation. I know that you administer us, but if we have this it this time then we will not always use outdoor voices. I think that when you use outdoor voices that means you want to go outdoors. When we use outdoor voices sometimes I cannot focus on what I am doing. Don’t you the principle want the students of Denton Avenue School to be ecstatic when they go home and not sad? I do.

Going outdoors, mean freedom. I want to be a prodigy for making snow sculptures, but I guess I can’t. Instead of making snow sculptures I would also rather like to play with my friends. During outside in the winter we bamboozle each other, play tag, and talk with people. When we go outside we walk, jog, and run on the snow. That means the snow will melt away. So if the snow melts away no one will slip. And also the janitors will be very delighted because they won't need to clean up the snow. So if the janitors will be delightful then they won’t quit.

These are many positives for staying outdoors and many negatives for staying indoors during winter.

                                                                                Sincerely,

                                                                                Clare

11 Salamander -- Recess In The Snow!

Article posted February 5, 2009 at 12:36 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 538

Dear Mrs. Haley,
For the about past 2 months all of the children have been inside our classrooms playing the same games. Don't you think it would be better to have the children go outside and have fun?
I know you think there are some hazards about letting us outside, but on the other hand it is healthy to go outside. Going outside will help you in school, because you will get fresh air. Also going outside helps children work. By going outside you can increase the grades of students.
I know you are thinking “What if some aren't prepared?", and "What if someone gets hurt?" Well I'll answer all of those questions for you. Number 1 if you are afraid someone isn't prepared than you can make an announcement the day before that we might have outdoor recess and to get some boots ready, and make sure have gloves and a hat. Also, for the 2nd question, nobody will get hurt. If they slip, they'll slip and land on the snow. If they get hit with a snowball, what harm is it going to do them? Also if you think that the little kids aren't ready to go outside you can make it so only certain grades can go outside in winter like the playground in the back.
The last reason you should let the kids at Denton Avenue School go outside is that it is an excellent exercise. It is good because you can practice balancing, you can practice reflexes. You can practice balancing because when you are trudging through the snow you might slip and if you balance there is a smaller chance that you might fall because whether you fall or not depends on balancing. To practice reflexes you can dodge snowballs and reflexes are how fast you can react to something. So when somebody throws a snowball at you you have to dodge it, thus giving you better reflexes.
I hope you will consider letting the children of Denton Avenue School outside during the winter.
Signed,
A Fellow Student, Sulaiman

12 Yankee Fan -- Recess In Winter

February 3, 2009

Mrs. Mary Louise Haley, Principal
Denton Avenue School

Dear Mrs. Haley,

Since winter is such a short season, everyone should enjoy it as much as they can. Right now there are some recesses in the classroom where we cannot have fun because we are indoors. There are too many rules and restrictions indoors like the noise restriction or the no running rule.
As you know on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 we had a snow delay. Some kids got to play in the snow before school but others (like me) didn’t. I believe we should have outdoor recesses on snowy school days. One reason why we should have outdoor recesses even on snowy days is because of the fresh air outdoors. We can easily get sick indoors. We are all stuck in one room all breathing the same stale air, all sharing and touching the same games and passing the germs to each other. Normally you can’t help it if you have to sneeze but if you are outside breathing the fresh air, the chances of spreading the germs to the other kids by a sneeze is not as great. There is a better chance that you will get sick inside than outside.
Today there is a lot of childhood obesity. Do you know you could lose weight by running around in the snow? In addition to having fun with your classmates and friends you get great exercise. In the classroom, you are not allowed to run around. You won’t get any exercise by playing class games.
Playing out in the snow can be a much easier recess for the teachers too. Inside the classroom you need to use inside voices instead of using outdoor voices. If you are inside you need to have a low voice level because you never know if you are distracting another class. If you are outside you can use a high level voice because there are no classes outside. Not only will we have fun but so can the teachers too. They can be talking to each other all they want and not have to yell at the kids for being too loud. In the classroom we are always getting reminders to keep our voices down before we get into trouble.
Outdoor recess in snowy days can improve our group participation too. Many of the kids in the class might have trouble getting along with each other. But when we are outside playing in the snow we can play together as a group. We can all build a snowman, make snow angels and even have a snowball fight together. There should not be any problems or fighting outside like we sometimes have over the different games that we play with indoors.
Like our class, you are a principal who cares. By showing you care about us you can let us have a fantastic winter by having outdoor recess during the snowy school days. All you need to do is let us go outside to play.

Sincerely,

12 Yankee Fan

Dear Mrs. Haley,

I was thinking that we should have winter recess because these last couple of days have been warmer than usual. Since the weather has been nice we should have winter recess now so we are able to go outside and play. Most of the snow has melted and it is now not so slippery out. I hope you will consider my letter for winter recess.

Dear our great new principle Mrs. Haley,

I’d like to talk to you about recess.
We’ve been stuck inside for recess for what feels like forever. It seems like ever other day it snowed and we have to stay in our classrooms and play with whatever is there. We like our classroom, but need a break from it sometimes. We want to have a break because we are there doing work for about six hours a day five days a week and everyone needs a breather.
When we play inside for recess there are a lot of germs and that is why so many people are getting sick. If you let us go outside we will get a lot of fresh air and not be around so many germs. We can release all of the energy that is stuck in our bodies and be more focused when we go back into the classroom.
There can be ‘snow rules’ for when we go outside in the snow. Rules such as, no going on the ice and no throwing snowballs. We can play in a certain area that is safe. These rules will keeep everyone from getting injured.
If it snows, we could bring our snow pants and boots and go outside and play and when we come back inside we can just take them off and not be wearing soaking wet clothes. If someone forgets their snow pants they will not get to participate that day and will have to stay in the classroom.
I hope you put this idea into consideration. It would benefit all of us at Denton Avenue.

16 Star -- Dear Mrs. Haley,

Article posted February 3, 2009 at 01:19 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 625

 Dear Mrs. Haley,

I would like to have outdoor recess in the winter. I know that you are worried that some people would get hurt on the snow that turned into ice but in this letter I will inform you how I and my fellow classmates can stay safe. I will also let you know what days we should play outside and how we could inform the other students. I will also let you get informed about other thing that we would be able to do.

The first thing is how we can stay safe. We could stay safe by blocking the parts of the playground with cones. We could ask the gym teachers for the cones. Plus, we could tell every body to bring their shoes that have rubber soles. The way we could tell them that is by the morning announcements the day before we go outside to play. Also we could walk very carefully.

The second item is how we could have fun. One way we could have fun is by having a place was we could make snowmen and a different spot for us to make snow angels. The second way we could have fun is by having a place were we could do science experiments in the snow or with the snow. We could also go out once a day. We could all also have safe snowball fights. Plus we could have time just to learn about snow and feel the snow in different parts of the playground and see if it has different textures.

The third thing is when we could go outside to play in the snow. The way we could go out is by going out in grade order for 1 hour. We should do this because we should all have enough time to make a snowman or other things that we would be making. Also because we should have enough time to have fun time to have with our friends. Plus we should go out every other day because if we go out everyday we all might catch a cold and a number of us would get fed up going outside everyday.

The fourth thing is how this would help our health. We should go out for 1 hour is because we are not getting enough oxygen that we need indoors. Also we need to get a lot of exercise. Plus we need energy to do school work and to be focused while we work so we could get more things done when we are in school and to finish the work that we need to do for that day.

In conclusion, it is important to have recess outside in the winter in a lot of important ways.

17 Stargirl -- Winter Recess

Article posted January 29, 2009 at 09:57 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 576

Dear Principle Haley,

We, the students, all know that we all might have a fifty percent chance of getting sick if we go outdoors for recess in these bitter weather conditions (because if we take care of ourselves and keep us warm then we won’t get sick, but if we don’t dress properly then we will get sick. Anything can happen that’s why you have a fifty percent change of getting sick or not getting sick.), but I have some examples that will benefit us if we go outdoors for recess too. First of all we, the fifth graders, are sure we are sufficient enough to care for ourselves for forty to forty-five minutes while we have fun and play outside in the snow. Plus, there will also be monitors outside watching us and everything we do. Second of all, we are young children and we want to thrive around and not be stuck indoors when there is snow outside. In this snow we can have plenty of fun and can occupy ourselves for a very long amount of time. Think about it this way. If all the fifth graders go outside we can have fun, get fresh air, and get our daily exercise. If we stay indoors we get bored to death, don’t have much fun, just sit around doing nothing or get in trouble for doing something in the classroom for fun. Third of all, snow is a very exciting thing for children. We like having fun with our friends. Also next year in middle school, we won’t even have recess! Why, and this is our last year at Denton Avenue and we want to remember our recess days as fun. Furthermore, if you say “yes” to this suggestion about going outside for recess in the snow, then it is our responsibility to bring our winter coats, jackets, mittens, and scarves to keep us warm and prevent us from getting sick or catch a cold. If several kids don’t bring them, then while the rest of kids go and play outside in the snow, they will stay indoors and play inside. How do you think this will work out? Do you think there should be some more rules added to this? All the fifth graders want to go out on snow days because you can have a lot of fun!!!

Sincerely,

Ann (17 Stargirl)

18 Animal Lover -- Winter Recess

Dear Mrs. Haley,
Don’t you want to go outside and play in the snow? Don’t you want to make a snowman and snow angels? Well we do. The 5th grade would love it if you let us go outside and play in the snow.
Do you think that we would be able to run, play, and exercise indoor? No. That’s why we should be let outside. While we are outside, we could do a lot of things that we couldn’t do indoors. It’s important for children to have fresh air, we can’t stay indoors all winter, we have to go outside where there’s open air and a lot of room to play. While we're indoors we can't be active and that’s not good for our bodies.
Like all the other seasons, winter only come once a year. If you don’t let us go outside for recess, we would get really bored indoors and we won‘t listen to our teachers. If none of us bothers to listen to our teachers, we all, would fail the New York State Test and we won't learn any thing. And if we fail the test, New York State won’t think that Denton Ave. is a good school, and all the teachers and maybe principles could loss their job.
So wouldn’t it be more prudent, if we got to go outside for recess?

20 Giant Fan -- Winter Recess Letter!

Article posted January 29, 2009 at 11:02 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 598

Dear Mrs. Haley

Mrs. Haley, the students of Denton Ave. seem to want to have recess even in the snow and the cold weather. You might think that it is a bad idea to do so, but I am going to try to tell you otherwise.   Instead of telling you why we should go outside, I will tell you why it is bad to stay inside on a cold or snowy day.

One reason that it is bad to stay inside is that we don’t get any fresh air. Fresh air helps our body’s work and it also keeps us alive. On one hand we do get air, but on the other hand if we get fresh air we get better health then being indoors.

Another reason we shouldn’t stay indoors, while being in the snow and cold is kids make lots of noise. When we are outside nobody besides the aids here us, but inside the whole school will be able to here us scream and yell. It is really annoying to listen to a cluster of screaming in the school.

My next reason why we should go outside in the snow and cold is people get more bored inside, then outside. Since they are bored, they tend to get into more trouble then being outside. That is more time of your day to talk to the kids that get in trouble, but we can just be outside not getting in trouble.

My far most essential reason is inside we end up getting hurt more because we have less space to play in, and as a result more kids are in the nurse’s office and kids are hurt. When they are injured and they cry and the noise is around the school. We don’t wan’t that to come about.

Here is a reason why we should go outside is we get a lot of exercise, so it is better if we go outside, rather then not getting exercise. It is better for us because we are getting healthier.

So those are my reason’s why we should be able go outside. Hope that you take my word and do what’s best for the school and for your students.

From, Zack ( 20 Giant Fan )

23 Chiba Japan -- Dear Mrs.Haley,

Article posted February 5, 2009 at 12:33 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 651

Hello. I'm Keita from South Paris Collaborative.

Every recess, I think about "How fun it will be if we could play in the snow?" Since we, as a student in Denton Ave., never went outside and play with snow in recess. There are countless reasons (I can’t write all of them down though) that the students should go outside and play with it.

One reason is that exercising is really important thing to do especially when if you are a child. We will get unhealthy if we stay in class during recess. That is the reason why you want to allow out during recess.

Reason that we shouldn’t be stuck indoor is that we are going to be stressful and as I said before, we are going to be unhealthy. We want to go outside and have fun, not stuck indoor and not move any muscle.

Why can’t we go outside? If it’s cold, we could just wear a coat and hat. If you are saying that it is dangerous, it’s not true. When you slip and fall, snow happens to be like a cushion so, it is not dangerous. And snow ball fight is really fun and not dangerous, because snow is really soft and it doesn’t hurt you.

When there is someone who don’t want to go to outside, they don’t have to. This new system (Play in the snow system) is what I thought would be the best.

Tell me what you think about this whole new system.

Sincerely,

Keita
