Rudy, movie critique (Audio)

Article posted June 19, 2006 at 06:47 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 245

Rudy is a kid who loves football but isn’t very athletic and he is very small. He grows up and he had always wanted to go to the college of Notre Dame but he couldn’t because he was getting bad grades. For his birthday his friend Pete gave him a Notre Dame jersey and then Pete got killed in accident in the factory that they work in. This made Rudy go to Notre Dame because of shock so he made a life altering decision.

After he got to the school of Notre Dame which had his favorite college football team. It turns out he didn’t have good enough grades and he had to go to Holy Cross to get good enough grades for Notre Dame. There he met a new friend named G-bob who helped him study if he introduced him to girls in the school. He also helps the guy who works on the football field out just to get to see the field. Then he pretends he is in Notre Dame and signs up to wash helmets.

Finally he got to go to Notre Dame and he invited his family to watch him play. He got hurt during trainings a few times but he was the most spirited player and became one of the best just because he tried so hard. On the team he met Jim who he practiced with. Jim didn’t really like football but he had to because his whole family had played for Notre Dame.

Rudy’s family didn’t believe he was actually on Notre Dame because they never saw him on television when they watched games. So unless he got dressed they wouldn’t believe that he was on the team. Finally he did. Then they won the match and he was the first player ever in Notre Dame history to be carried off the field for being so good.

I thought it was a great movie and a very sad one because Rudy got picked on for being small and his friend died. I was so happy for Rudy when he got into Notre dame because he was a dreamer whose dreams came true. I think the lessons are to never give up on your dreams and also to give it your all and try to make those dreams a reality. Hopefully I will see this movie again sometime.

World Cup Kicks Off

Article posted June 13, 2006 at 04:29 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 222

The World Cup has started. In the news article, "The World Cup Kicks Off,” they are talking about the World Cup which is when all the soccer teams in the world play against each other until one team is named champion.

I want Argentina to win since I beat my friend Guillermo’s little brother in a soccer video game with Argentina and he had Brazil. But he also wants Argentina to win. Almost everyone in my class is watching the World Cup and my friend Guillermo came to school with Brazil painted across his face with the flag of Brazil. He also turned a shirt inside out and wrote some players names on his shirt and wrote his name on the back and the number 10 under it.

I think the World Cup is cool because a lot of my friends watch it and my friend Guillermo tells me whether Argentina wins or not. Argentina won 2 to 1 against Costa De Marfil and I hope they win a lot more.

Go Argentina!

PEBBLES

Article posted June 9, 2006 at 01:56 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 241

Kids who are in the hospital will no longer have trouble keeping up with their school work thanks to PEBBLES.

PEBBLES (Providing Education By Bringing Learning Environments to Students) is a program that helps kids keep up in school. It has 4 wheels so it can move around from class to class. Its "face" is an auto-focus camera that allows the student in the hospital to zoom in on the board. By using a joystick and buttons on a control box, the student can turn the robot's head, raise its hand, and adjust the volume. It even comes equipped with a scanner and printer, so if the teacher hands out an exercise or test in class, the student can participate from the hospital.

I think it’s great that people who have to stay at a hospital for a long time won’t fall back in class thanks to PEBBLES. I’m happy for all the kids who are keeping up with their work with PEBBLES but I feel bad that they are in the hospital for a long time anyways.

Fake Rain Helps China Drought

Article posted June 9, 2006 at 01:53 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 208

China has sprayed a special chemical into clouds to make artificial rain - a process called cloud-seeding.

It is useful to keep dieing crops watered and even saved China from a giant dust storm. Some scientists think it is wrong to interfere with nature because it can cause less rain in another town.

This is like what happened in One-Piece because a town had this powder that they put in the clouds and it gave them rain during a drought but it caused other towns to be dry. So I don't know whether they should use the cloud-seeding or not. But if they do I hope it doesn't happen like it did in One-Piece like some scientists predicted.

Postcard (Audio)

SW_Postcard

Dear Dad,

My college roommates, The Moneybagz (Mario, Guillermo, Lester, and Jesus) are entering the American Family contest and we are going to try and win a house in Seattle.

We are all figuring out what we want to be. I will be a Historian, Guillermo will be the teacher, Lester will be the traffic planner, Mario will be the sports agent, and Jesus will be the Pilot.

There are some beautiful Physical Features in Seattle like Mount Rainer, which is 14,000ft. tall and it used to be a Volcano but since it became so high it touched the clouds and the cold climate of the clouds turned it to snow. It's usually rainy during the summertime but that is ok because the pollen won't set off Jesus's allergies.

There are low unemployment rates which means we will have a higher chance of getting a job, and there is high per capita income so we will make more money.

We're glad that there aren't tornados and the only problem is that there are landslides which we can avoid by building on higher grounds.

It's very good that there are a lot of people in Seattle since we all need people for our jobs.

Seattle has good education which is good for Guillermo since he is a teacher and I can teach people about the things I learn.

There are 5 sports teams in Seattle which is good for Mario since he is a sports agent and needs teams for his job and it's good there are sports teams right near his home.

Dad, wish me luck. I hope I win!

Bye,
Schuyler

The Lego Life

Article posted May 12, 2006 at 04:40 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 223

Nathan Sawaya, 32, is a Lego designer and builder. He got his first set of Legos when he was three years old, on Christmas and has loved them ever since. He has built so many cool things, like a portrait of Lindsey Lohan, a replica of the Brooklyn Bridge, a Lego boat, and lots of other cool things.

I think it is so cool that he can make such cool things out of Legos. I wish he could make me something cool. Like a model of myself. Now that would be cool. I also think it's cool that he kept his dream of becoming a Lego designer since he was a kid.

Soda Flunks Out

Article posted May 4, 2006 at 06:46 PM GMT0 • comment (1) • Reads 204

Now the soda industries are cutting down on the soda at public schools. Instead, elementary and middle school students will have access to unsweetened juices, low-fat milk, and water. High school students will be able to purchase diet soda products, unsweetened teas, low-calorie sports beverages, and seltzer. This will help kids stay thinner and will reduce child obesity.

I think this is great because a lot of kids will be thinner, child obesity will be reduced, and kids will have fun! This program will help kids stop getting so many non-diet sodas and they won’t be come as obese(overweight).

The Constitution Works: Justice Werner's Opinion (Audio)

Article posted May 1, 2006 at 07:05 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 239

The Preamble, where it says to "provide for common defense" made me think of voting for the government but the Denver Dispatch has the First Amendment which gives them "freedom of the press."

Justice Hughes wrote in Near V. Minnesota, ?The great English Scholar Blackstone wrote that freedom of the press is necessary if we want people to be free,? which convinced me to vote for the Denver Dispatch's side.

I voted for the Denver Dispatch because they had much better answers and had more convincing arguments than the government, but the government had a better closing argument.

If Attorney Alexa K. had explained how Article II protects the government, which says the president is the Chief Executive and commands the army and had she said what it meant, I might have voted for them. And how it helps the government's side, I would have voted for them.
