Kowhai
Our classroom is a bright and airy space. Our catchphrase is "Can we learn it? Yes we can!"
We are all new to school as our class is the New Entrant Class at Te Ranga School. We are all five years old.
Please make a comment as we would love to know what parents, grandparents and friends (even if you are on the other side of the world) think of the work we are doing in our class.
Arohanui...Janet Blaauw and Kowhai Class :-)
Here is the weather where we are

Mrs Blaauw and Mrs Hansen are very excited about getting back to school.
For the 1st term of 2010, Kowhai and Rimu classes will be combining for lots of activities, like story writing, maths and reading.
This will enable the children to have much more 1:1 time with either Mrs Hansen, or Mrs Blaauw.
While one teacher is finishing off working with children who are still mastering their story writing, the other teacher can be taking children who have finished for maths instruction.
There will be 11 children in Rimu class and 8 in Kowhai. As new entrant children feed into Kowhai class and the numbers get too big, we will split into seperate classes.
We are looking forward to seeing you all again soon on 3rd February.

Hello to you all. Well! This term has been crazy busy for all of us in Kowhai Class. Our numbers have swelled to 18 and we are enjoying getting to know our new friends.
Here are some pictures of what we have been up to this term.
Gardening in our class vege garden.
Made a scarecrow for the school disco.
Planted sunflowers next to the fence by our classroom.

We have just finished the 3rd term and what a busy one it was!
We have worked hard with our dance for Te Ranga's production of '100 Year Rock', a modernisation of the Sleeping Beauty story.
Kowhai Class were the "Magnificent Men in their Flying machines"... and they did their dance wonderfully. I am sure all who came to watch were as proud as I was!

Te Ranga School has has the Life Education bus visiting this week.
Kowhai has been doing the VIP, Very Important People, sessions. We have been learning about what we need to keep us safe and healthy. We have also been learning about what the organs in the body do, and where they are in the body.
We really loved meeting Harold and say a HUGE thanks to Lee from Life Education.

Here is a bear who decided to come to town. Mrs Blaauw was driving along the road in Deep Cove, Vancouver, when she saw this BIG bear walking towards her. Very exciting!

Every Friday morning Kowhai and Rimu Class spend 20 minutes watching a baby and his mother interact together. This is part of the BASE (Baby Watching Against Aggression for Sensitivity and Empathy) Programme.
We spend about 20 minutes watching our baby, asking the children what the baby is doing, why? What they may be feeling?, Why they may do something?, What would you feel if were the baby or mother?
Our children are really thinking about the questions asked of them and becoming good questioners themselves.
Our baby Marcus belongs to Ange and Gary Veysi. We thank them very much for letting us spend this time with him, helping us to learn how to be caring and nurturing with each other.

We are making a cool mosaic for the garden outside our classroom as part of our enviroschools education. We have had losts of fun smashing the tiles up and doing a jigsaw putting them on our picture.

Well! It couldn't have come at a better time for Kowhai Class with us doing a weather unit this term. A huge hail storm which left hail that looked like snow all over our region! Yeehah! Here is a picture that Gaylene, one of our teacher aides took when she was dropping of children from our school at Papamoa. Wow!!
