The Monster Project

Article posted November 18, 2009 at 07:35 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 343

The Livewires have worked on a very big project - a challenge involving about 38 classes around the world. Each class built a monster using descriptions contributed by all of the classes. It needed a lot of cooperation, creativity, patience and problem solving to complete the monster that we named Einkinstein.
Click on the link at the left to see all of the monsters and to learn more about The Monster Project.

Agriculture Day

Article posted October 13, 2009 at 02:44 AM GMT0 • comment (1) • Reads 1486

Today was our school Agriculture Day. Many children brought their pets to school to be judged. They have been raising and training lambs, calves and kids and were judged on their leading, calling, rearing, obstacle course and dairy type. They receive coloured ribbons for their placings in each class. We had lots of visitors to our school as parents, grandparents and other family members and friends came to support the young farmers. It was great to see how well trained, groomed and cared for the animals are - congratulations on all your successes Livewires.

Greetings

Article posted September 30, 2009 at 01:46 AM GMT0 • comment (4) • Reads 1955

We use greetings in about 12 different languages in our class. Recently we have been learning to say hello (and goodbye) in Russian. Here are some of the Livewires practising their pronunciation. We also speak in Maori so you can also hear the greetings in a language that is unique to New Zealand. Perhaps our Russian friends could let us know if we are saying the words correctly!

Skyping The Brainwaves

It was exciting for us to meet our blog partners, the Brainwaves, today. It was amazing to see and talk to them even though they live thousands of kilometres away in Connecticut, USA.

Starting Skype and Busy Bloggers

Article posted September 14, 2009 at 10:03 AM GMT0 • comment (3) • Reads 458

Today the Livewires met Mr Greenberg (in Connecticut, USA) and Mr Smith (in Missouri, USA).  We used Skype in class for the first time and were able to talk to them and see them live.  It was great to meet them both.  Even Cookie Monster and Hiwi the Kiwi were able to see each other.   It did seem a bit strange that it was Monday morning here and Sunday evening in the USA.  We wondered if they had eaten dinner yet while we were just about to have morning tea.  We are learning about time zones and different seasons in different parts of the world. We look forward to more skyping later this week.

There are two more Livewires who are becoming super-bloggers.  Eden and Caleb have been showing lots of enthusiasm and have been blogging from home - writing articles and comments. Eden has even got her brother commenting on our blog.  Well done Eden and Caleb.

Monty's Mooloo Birthday

Article posted September 4, 2009 at 11:28 AM GMT0 • comment (1) • Reads 1319

Our class toy, Monty, had a very exciting birthday this year because it was also Mooloo Day. Mrs Gibbes' husband coaches the Waikato rugby team and he bought three special visitors with him - two Waikato players and Mooloo! The Livewires organised a party for Monty with games, presents, decorations and treats to eat. Then we spent time with our visitors and we sang the Mooloo song with great enthusiasm.

KIWIS

Article posted August 8, 2009 at 08:05 AM GMT0 • comment (4) • Reads 3052

The Livewires have been learning how to write information reports. We collected a lot of information about kiwis (the birds, not the fruit or people) and wrote a set of keywords. Then each person wrote an information report by putting the keywords into sentences using their own words. Kiwis are unique birds. If you would like to learn about how they are special read some of the student blog entries.

Life Education

Article posted July 28, 2009 at 09:29 PM GMT0 • comment (3) • Reads 1168

The Livewires have been learning some important life skills in the Life Education classroom. We learned about 'personality' and how it's great that we are all different. Wouldn't it be boring if we all looked the same, spoke the same and acted the same. We also learned about 'conformity' and that there are good ways to conform and bad ways to conform.
