December!

Welcome to our blog!

We are busy with Christmas plays and performances at our school. There are students acting and singing along with classes performing songs. What is your school doing for the holiday season?

We are still reading "The Bad Beginning" by Lemony Snicket. It's becoming really exciting and we can't wait to find out what happens to the Baudelaire orphans. What books are you reading?

We have school until December 21st then we have a two week break for Christmas. It's been very cold here and we have lots of snow. Tomorrow the forecast is for more snow and a high temperature of -8C then the temperatures drop to -16C. Brrrrrr1

Thank you for reading our blog and sending comments. We'll be posting more blogs after we finish reading our book.

Have a great day,
Kim

Hi everyone,
I can't believe that it's already November 5th! That means we've been in school for two months with only eight more to go.

We had a wonderful time working on the Monster Project. We read all types of monster books, did monster word activities and built a fabulous monster. Check out all of the finished monsters on: http://www.smithclass.org/proj/Monsters/index.htm

We're starting a new novel this week: "The Bad Beginning" by Lemony Snicket. The book is about the Baudelaire children and the unfortunate events in their lives. http://www.thesnicketcode.com/TBB.htm

We'll be blogging as we read the book. I hope you read our posts.

Have a great week,
Ms.B

Hi everyone!

We've been busy getting settled into a new school year. How are you doing?

We've also been very busy with the Monster Project. We've been working on monster activities and reading monster books. We've read: My Monster Mam Loves Me So by Laura Leuck and Mark Buehner. We've also read There are Monsters Everywhere by Mercer Mayer. It's been very fun. Our group has started working on our monster building project with each student in the reading group building body parts. Have a look at all of the Monster activities: http://www.smithclass.org/proj/Monsters/index.htm

Please read all of our blogs and leave comments. We'll make sure to answer your comments.

Have a great day!
Ms. B

September!

Hi everyone,

I can't believe that it's been almost four months since I've blogged. In that time I've changed schools, changed jobs, traveled to East Africa and enjoyed some summer vacation at home.

My new school is George Lee School and my job is the Learning Resource Teacher. I'm so lucky because I'm able to work with students in grade 1-8 throughout the year. Right now I have two wonderful reading groups and some other great students to work with. We'll be working on projects throughout the school year and blogging about our experiences. The first project that we're working on is the Monster Project organized by Mr. Smith. http://smithclass.org/proj/Monsters/index.htm

Keep checking in to see what we're doing, reading about and learning.

Have a great day,
Ms. B

Friday Writing

Article posted May 4, 2012 at 03:03 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 43905

Hi everyone,

I hope that you've all had a great week at school. My grade fives were busy working on a provincial writing assessment this week. I bet they're glad that it is finished. They had to choose a writing prompt, brainstorm ideas, plan, write a draft, edit and revise then write a final copy. It was a lot of work!

Your writing assignment for today isn't going to be as complicated as the grade five's was. It's been raining quite a bit where we live. This morning it was absolutely pouring and there are huge puddles that look like small lakes on the roads where the storm drains are plugged. My question for you is what do you like to do on a rainy day? I like when it's rainy on the weekend because my favourite thing to do is to make a pot of tea and read. When my children were young we would watch movies, play board games or play cards. It's also nice to have a nap when it's rainy. Those are some of my rainy day things to do. Write a paragraph about yours.

Enjoy your day,
Ms. B

Cold and Rainy

Hi,

We've a really crazy weather week in Regina. The temperature was 27 degrees celcius at the beginning of the week and sunny. However, the week has gradually gotten cooler to today with 5C with 61km gusting winds and rain. The forecast for the weekend isn't much better. What's the weather where you live? Is it nicer than it is here?

Make sure to read the students' blog pages. We've been enjoying the Friday writing assignments from our partner teachers. Today we were writing about the food we like.

We're also learning Kiswahili. It is an Eastern African language that is spoken in several countries. This is our favourite song and video:

Have a great day,
Ms. B

Friday Writing

Hi everyone,

Welcome to this week's Friday writing! March 2nd was Dr. Seuss's birthday. In past years we have celebrated his birthday with a Green Eggs and Ham breakfast, Dr. Seuss book and writing events.

Your writing assignment today is to write about your favourite Dr. Seuss book and explain why it's your favourite. My favourite Dr. Seuss book is "Green Eggs and Ham."

I also love when the Reverend Jesse Jackson reads "Green Eggs and Ham." http://youtu.be/PPxPciXcJvc

Have a great day,

Back to School

Hi everyone!

We've had a week break but tomorrow we're back to school. It will be a busy week. Tuesday we have and Outdoor Education trip called "Trappers Challenge." We are in the country for the day doing different outdoor activities such as: dog sled races, building fires, cooking lunch and playing games. It should be a great day! Les Voyageurs were trappers that traveled Canada during the fur trade and were mostly French or Scottish.

On Wednesday we are celebrating the Leap Year with "Leap into Literacy" with a book and bagel breakfast. I think it's going to be a great way to start the day! We also have our Celebration Assembly Wednesday afternoon to celebrate the academic achievements of our students during the month of January.

Hope you all have a wonderful week,
Ms. B
