Fly, Fly Away

MissGauleysclass's Fly Away album on Photobucket

We are working on our last ELA/Science unit about Flight. These pictures show scenes from a couple of experiments. The first one involved different types of wings. We had long and wide, long and narrow, short and wide, and short and narrow wings to try. We ran around the gym with the various wing types to feel the force of drag and how easy it was to turn. The second involved trying to make a balloon fly off in a straight line when we let it go. The pictures show some of our creations. We went to the gym with great expectations the balloons would travel a great distance - but they didn't!

Day of Pink

MissGauleysclass's Day of Pink album on Photobucket

April 10 is the Red Cross Day of Pink in Saskatchewan. Our school participated in this day of taking a stand against bullying. We got our pink shirts as soon as we got to school, and then we had a massive assembly in the gym. Some community members were there too, in their pink shirts as well. We had hotdogs (with pink buns!), pink lemonade, and pink desserts for lunch. Last class, we had another assembly in the gym where we found out the winners of the SCC's writing contest. In our classroom, we learned about empathy, and did an activity with the video Bully Dance. Everyone involved in a bullying situation is affected by bullying. Having empathy (understanding and thinking of other's feelings) is a big step to preventing bullying.

MissGauleysclass's Minute to Win It album on Photobucket

On February 8, the Elementary SRC hosted an amazing event called Minute To Win It. During noon hour, K-6 students tried to accomplish certain tasks in a minute. Some of the events were The Big Blow, A Bit Dicey, Chopsticks Stack, Office Dominoes, and Candy Elevator. The SRC thought everyone had a blast.

MissGauleysclass's January 2013 album on Photobucket

January is over already? We've had wacky weather this month - anywhere from -40 to 2 (and that could be in the same week!) We had three days when the buses didn't do their routes, and two of those days it was just a few of us at school. The dress up day this month was Comic Book Character. We have a new student in our class - welcome Brooke!

MissGauleysclass's Last days of 2012 album on Photobucket

During our last few days of school for 2012, we had many dress up days and practiced for the Christmas Concert. On the very last day (best day!), we opened up presents, went to the gym for the Intramural Pot Luck, and played board games. Merry Christmas and all the best for 2013!

Holiday Programming

Article posted November 30, 2012 at 07:34 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 5509

Charlie Brown's Christmas tree, the mean old Grinch slithering around the Whos' houses, "you'll shoot your eye out!", and the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future are just a few of the memories we have of holiday programming at this time of year. Which show or movie do you look forward to seeing when December comes around? Please check out our blogs to see which programs the 5/6's chose.

Busy September!

We've had a busy first month of school! Congratulations Haily, Sean, Alex, and Brielle on becoming our elementary SRC executive, and Lanina and Steven for being our Room Reps. Their first activity day was "Wipeout", with different obstacle course activities for all the K-6 students. There are pictures of three dress up days - pajama day, extreme weather day, and superhero day. We have finished our math units on patterns. A pet hamster came to visit and fall arrived. Thank you Haily for bringing the leaves!

Happy New (School) Year!

The 2012-2013 school year is one week old today, and we began to work on our blogs today. For the Grade 5's, it meant going back and seeing what they blogged about way back in Grade 1! We have 13 students in our class this year. The other two pictures are an In Motion activity. Let's say the pictures are blurry because the students were moving so quickly and not my talent as a photographer!!

Our Last Month of School

Article posted June 28, 2012 at 07:56 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 7729

Hello summer holidays! Our last month of school was very busy. Crazy Hat Day was a dress up day. We had Awards Day, and many of us got school participation pins. We went on our class trip to the RCMP Heritage Centre and MacKenzie Art Gallery in Regina. We finished up our Science unit on Human Body Systems. And after cleaning our classroom, we went swimming on the last day of classes (a very windy day!) Have a safe and relaxing summer!

Sand Castle Wars

Article posted May 15, 2012 at 07:31 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 8502

Our Elementary SRC had a sand castle building competition today. Each elementary class competed against each other to create the best looking sand castle. Each class had to make a castle that could stay standing. Each class had to work together as a team to plan and to build their castle. Here are the Grade 5 and Grade 6's castles!
