Top Cat Bloggers,

Your first blog assignment is to create a shout out! This is a message that welcomes everyone to our blog, much like a invite to a birthday party.  You tell the bloggers what you can expect from your blog and make them feel welcome. A shout out is a short no more than 2 sentence message.

You may now write your first article

Ms. H.

Dearest Bobcats!

Welcome to the world of blogging. Blogging allows students to connect to the world in order to share their thoughts, feelings, ideas, and wonders.  You will have a chance this year to learn about the amazing students in our class who will share there best books with you, and learn how to communicate with other clasrooms around the world.  Blogging is kinda like writing a letter but you need to follow a couple of rules.  Don't use your real name and never give out your location or address.  This keeps you safe online.

Always remember that what you put in your blog reflects who you are and what you say reflects our school and classroom.  So spell correctly, use full sentences, and be respectful and polite. As your teacher I will approve ever article you write before it is published to your blog so Be a TopCat Blogger.

Above all have fun!   Blogging is a great way to connect to the world!

Your Teacher,

Ms. H.

5th Graders!

WOW what a year it has been.  We have had some very fun activities.  Most of us went to Mountain School, participated in the water field trips, and ran, jumped or threw their hardest at the Track Meet.  All of you have learned how to do better at being respectful and helping out others in our classroom.  Think of all the technology you can do even the BLOGS!.

Please take a few mintues and write some words of advice to next year 5th graders.  Share with them what they should do to make their school year great!  What would you tell them to do? any thing not to do?  What about things they should know about working with Mrs. Howard or Ms. Hinshaw.

I will be keeping the Blog up over the summer so feel free to share what you are doing,.

Have a great summer and best of luck in middle school.

OK to get started blogging everyone needs to have a blog name. This name needs to represent who you are and how you want others to view you. Since you are under 13 the law requires you to use a psuedo name. That means a made up name to protect your privacy.

Since we are the BobCats what better way to be one then to select a cat name for your BLOG!  So get  your name finding hat on and click the following link to locate a Famous Cat names http://www.citizenlunchbox.com/famous/cats.html . You are also welcome to use a cat name you already have!

Students what kind of books are you reading this summer?

Summer reading is so fun...no booklogs to record, pages to read per day, take a book and read this summer.  Read at the park, at the beach or lake, in your backyard! Just Read!

Monkey is reading a book called "Feathers"... you can find out more about the book by Reading Monkey's blog about the book  and I just got through with a book called "Thirteen Reasons Why" .  This is a very sad book about a high school girl that leaves tapes about her life after she is dead.   The other students learn about her life and how they can help other students.

Ms. H.

I have to say goodbye too.  It is with great sadness that our Elementary School is closing after 83 years.  This school has so much history and has seen thousands and thousands of students walk the halls and sit in classrooms.  So much leanring has gone on.  Our school community is one of the best communities I have ever seen.  After 24 years teaching at this school I so appreciate all the staff, principals, custodians, PTA parents, and community. I am now teaching the children of those students I taught.  Our school is truely given it the best that it could be.  It is time now for the Building to get a much needed update so that in the future this school will prosper and bring back to its halls many more students. Please note I will contiune teaching at the new elementary school, come and visit me sometime.    With fondess regards, MsH.

Top Dogs!

Please take a few minutes to describe how you think a Law becomes a Law.  How does it get from the idea in a persons head to be enforced by others.  Enforced means if you don't follow the law then that person gets in touble for breaking the law.  Come up with 3 - 5 steps on how you think a law becomes a law.

You may post as a comment below or as your own blog post.

One of your first TopDog jobs is to select a BLOG name

Be thinking about a BLOG name for your very own blog.  Your Blog name needs to be a name of a dog, or dog related.  It is important to think and choose carefully.

You will have the Blog Name the whole school year.

Also we want to practice safe and respectful blog practices so be sure your name is positive and does not give any personal information.

So what will your blog name be?

I love this project. 7 Random Facts gives us a chance to make connections to other students all around the world.

We post 7 things about us, everybody else posts 7 things about themselves...we go around the world and leave comments!

It's supposed to be fun and supposed to teach us how to leave appropriate comments with other classes around the world.

You will need to sign your comments with your online nickname and leave a hyperlink back to your blog. (Please do not fill in your email address.)

When the other classrooms have posted their 7 Random Fact assignments, then we  will start our search!

We use many strategies when trying to solve a math problem. What strategies would you use to solve this problem?

A can of candy worms had 3 red worms, 6 blue worms, and 5 green worms. Bike4Life decided to eat 2 of the green worms. After that what were the chances of pulling a blue worm out of the can?

Write an article and tell how you would solve this problem. Post your answer please when you figure it out.

Class next week we will have our second all school team event a Write Around. You and your team will be writing a book called, "If I Could Give A Gift"...What gift would you give to the world?

Would it make a big impact?

Would it help the world?

Would it make the world a safer place?

Would it make people happy?

Just think about all the different gifts you could give to our world!

Please write an article explaining the gift you would give and tell the reason why.

NASA Teams Space Project

Congratulations! You "All-Stars" and "Top Dogs" have been chosen to do very important research. NASA needs you to do research and make a recommendation for the first human settlement on a planet other than Earth.

Good luck comparing and contrasting the other planets to Earth!

To get thinking started, post comments about what we (humans) NEED for survival here on Earth.

Our class this week took the time to think about what we are thankful for. My grandmother used to say count your blessings. Be thankful for what you have. Happy Thanksgiving to all of our Portable B families. Mrs. Hinshaw

Welcome back and welcome to our new families and students. We are going to have a wonderful year. Blogging will be our way to share our thinking and communicating with each other and between our partner classrooms. As students post to the Blog, I as the teacher approve every Blog and Comment. This helps students learn how to communicate in the most effective ways. Parents and releatives are encouraged to leave comments.

What is a question? What makes a good question? If a question can't be answered is it still a question? What questions do you have?
