The split between the Sunnis and Shi'ites is partially caused by a disagreement over who should lead Islam after Muhammad. Over the centuries, this relatively minor religious disgreement has become a much larger political disagreement with armed clashes seemingly becoming the norm. Can you think of another example where a minor disagreement has became a much larger split between two groups?
