Hamlet: A Guy With Potential!

Article posted January 27, 2010 at 09:08 AM GMT-8 • comment • Reads 307

At the end of Hamlet, Fortinbras says Hamlet "was likely, had he been put on,/To have proved most royal."  Using evidence from the play to support (not replace) your position,   discuss whether Hamlet, had he become king, would indeed have been a good ruler.  I expect answers that display deep thinking...no short answers.   Due for all AP classes on Wednesday 2/3.

Once all articles have been submitted, I will have you comment on the articles of 3 classmates.  You comments need to go beyond "good job dude!".  If they are missing things in their response or if you disagree with their ideas, then discuss that in your comments!

Hey! It's been a while...let's talk about Hamlet!

Article posted January 20, 2010 at 01:23 PM GMT-8 • comment (2) • Reads 1240

Each of you has been assigned a question from the end of the play.  Write an article where you do the following:

1.  Type the question as it appears in your literature text.

2.  Include a picture to illustrate your article

3.  Type your response to this quesiton.  Responses should be detailed with references to the text.

4.  Respond to articles written by three other classmates...ON DIFFERENT QUESTIONS PLEASE!

This will be due on Wednesday 1/27 for all AP class periods.

Oooh! Ooooh! Pick me! Pick me!

Write an article in which you pose a question from what we have read in Beowulf so far.  Ideally, these should be questions that you actually have about the reading.  Questions should include references to the text when appropriate.  They should be higer level questions...no simple fact-based questions like "Who is Beowulf?" or "If Grendel liked pizza, what toppings would he pick?".

Next, answer the questions of at least five other people. Your answers should be specific, detailed and should include text from the poem when appropriate.

Safe and Sound

We have been talking as a class about writing for an audience.  Writing for this academic blog is not the same as the kind of writing that you might do on myspace or facebook or even on your cell phone.  We also discussed basic internet safety and sanity...which should really apply to every moment you are on the web.  Watch and respond to the following video by posting a comment to this article.  DO NOT WRITE YOUR OWN ARTICLE...simply comment on my article by clicking on "comment" below.

Here's the video link.  If anyone can figure out how I can embed this into the article, let me know!

Is that hissing I hear?

Article posted August 26, 2009 at 02:37 PM GMT-8 • comment (1) • Reads 856

The archetype of the serpent can be seen throughout the Bible.  It is not always a symbol for evil.  Sometimes it is a symbol for power or even healing.  Discuss the idea in your blog.  Be sure to use specific examples from the Bible in your article.

Ouch...that's pretty harsh!

Write an article in which you discuss the following biblical allusion.  Use the same format from our biblical allusions packet:

"Ronald Reagan, although an amiable man, had a considerable capacity for loathing few things more than the federal city.  To him, it made Sodom and Gomorrah look like a bastion of family values".  (Article written by Mary McGrory in the Washington Post, 11/27/97).

Remember to do the following:

  1. Identify the exact allusion and the Book/chapter/verse location

  2. Tell the story behind that passage in the Bible

  3. Discuss how the story from  the Bible adds to the meaning of the quote from the Washington Post

Welcome to your AP Literature Blog.  This first assignment is an opportunity for you to check out your blog and make it your own.  You need to do the following:

  1. Choose a template for your blog.

  2. Title your blog.  Be creative, but be clean.

  3. Add a picture that represents you...but it can't be a picture of you!

  4. Add a quote or saying to the "About Me" section
