Holiday Traditions in Estonia

Article posted December 11, 2012 at 11:50 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 375

Hi! I did my blog on Estonia! It's located in Eastern Europe and its tree type is cultural. Here are some cool decorations that represent their cultures. The Museum's Estonian Christmas tree is traditionally decorated with sashes, mittens and lace stars to represent their traditions and cultures. They also place small Estonian flags on the tree to remind them of their heritage. The cool traditions and holidays they have are totally awesome- One holiday, often called Yuletide starts with St. Thomas' day on December 21th and goes on until Epiphany, on January 6th. In that time, most people relax and enjoy themselves. The only work that is done in that time period is the work that is most necessary. Everyone else uses that time to decorate villages, visit freinds and preparing a lavish meals that symbolize having plenty of food for the coming year. As Christmas Eve gets closer, families bring straw into their homes to represent the birth of Jesus in a stable. This straw soon turns into a playground for the kids throughout the Yuletide season. After a traditional church service, families come back home to a great Christmas meal of fried turkey or goose, potatoes, apples or cabbage, and cookies called Pipparkogid made from cocoa, peppercorn, and cinnamon. YUM!

The Alpine Tundra

Article posted November 10, 2012 at 02:06 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 361

My biome in Core Connections is the alpine tundra. My first organism is the pocket gopher. The pocket gopher lives underground in a burrow to stay safe from preditors. His diet is usually different types of wildflowers or grasses and certain type of berries. My second organism is a krummholz tree. These trees give homes to animals such as an elk. They grow to be very big but hardly have any leaves. Alot of them also look like they're on their side and are all twisted up. My last organism is the marmot. This creature is similar to a beaver but lives in the tundra. He has similar teeth to a beaver and a similar tail, but a marmot doesn't have waterproof fur. I wouldn't want to visit this biome because it would be too cold and too windy.

My Project Knowledge

Article posted October 25, 2012 at 02:05 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 418

These are afew things that I've learned about teamwork while working on the monster project- #1 Comunicating with the people around you. If you don't comunicate with other people around you, then you might have to make your part over again. #2 Helping others. If you're finished with your part, go find somebody who might need your help. #3 Working hard. Working hard is very important if you want your project to look good. I had a very fun time with the monster project and can't wait for the next big thing in Core Connections!

The Ipad!

Article posted October 12, 2012 at 12:25 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 418

Hi! I'm building the ipad! The class that submitted this desciption is Ms. Stoolman and Mr. Deofler's third grade class from Yangon International School. The description is- circular, pitch black with crimson droplets, gold sparkles, and bumpy. The diameter is about 9 inches and the circumference is about 27 inches. I think the ipad will connect onto one of the hands. It will also connect to the fingers and fingers nails on that hand. Hope you enjoyed! :)

Why do dogs chase their tales? #539

Article posted September 26, 2012 at 02:10 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 346

Why do dogs chase their tails? Usually, younger dogs chase their tails whenever they get bored. It is very unusual to see an older dog chase its tail. When and if an older dog chases its tail, it can be a sign that a trip to the vet. might be a good idea. Certain breeds, such as terriers and german sheperds also tend to chase their tails more than other breeds. My wonder word to know is terrier aand the meaning is- a small dog that originally was used to drive small animals out of their burrows for hunters.
