"Becoming An Expert" on Presentation Tools

Article posted November 7, 2012 at 02:13 PM GMT-5 • comment • Reads 187

The 7th and 8th grade completed their “Becoming An Expert” on presentation tools project. We discussed as a class the importance of picking the correct presentation tool to enhance one’s message the best way possible. The students were teamed up in groups of 2 or 3 and had to pick from a hat to determine their digital presentation tool to become an expert within.  They had to meet the requirements of a rubric, make a “How-To” video and then publish it on their Digital Portfolios (their websites), all in the confines of their presentation software. Yet again they did a awesome job!

8th Grade Research & Databases

The 8th grade recalled what they learned last year about databases and took in a step further.  They were given a certain scenario where they had to research two similar office products using at least two different internet resources. After they have completed their comparisons, they would make the best decisions based upon the wants and needs of their pretend future employer. The office equipment included such things as laptops, desktop computers, printers, and cell phones. They did a great job!

7th grade did a real good job at identifying what a database is and what it is used for.  Then they applied that learned information and created several databases that categorized info seeking resources from the internet. I can't believe it but the first week of school has come and gone. This first week the 7th graders have begun work on designing their own websites.  These website are called "Digital Portfolios."  They can insert all of their school work within their websites. They can continue to do this throughout their entire school career.  The 8th grade are adding on to their "Digital Portfolios" and inserting an "All About Me" presentation.  They will present to the class their "All About Me" presentations.

We had an awesome time in Tech Summer Destinations this year.  It was a blast designing and presenting our “All About Me” websites.  Plus, we build our very own green driven technologies, a solar powered car and windmill generator.  We all can’t wait until next year!!!
